But is interspersed with pink, yellow and green throughout. The gold on the top is heavy and in good condition. There is no stopper, but it shouldn't be hard to get one if you wanted to. I just displayed it, so it didn't need one. The mark on the bottom has Noritake on top curved and Nippon underneath straight across. Both words are in green. THIS IS A RARE PAIR OF NIPPON HAND PAINTED SALT& PEPPER SHAKERS! I don’t want to remove the corks to find out if these have ever been used. As the corks are in very good condition and are inserted very tightly. Each shaker is marked“Hand Painted Nippon” on the bottoms. Rims(top& bottom) are lined with 24K gold. The holes on top are also trimmed in gold. Along with a unique scroll pattern. The issue date is before 1921. They measure 2 ¾” high, 2” at the widest, and 1 ½” across the bottom. They have a nice landscape scene of a windmill. Red roofed barn and a large tree. No chips, cracks or crazing, tiny specks as seen in photo#2. They do not look near as big as the picture makes them out to be. NOTE: According to the McKinley Tariff Act. All Japan-made wares exported to the USA were marked NIPPON(which means JAPAN in Japanese) ... moreuntil 1921. A very nice salt and pepper shaker set. I estimate they are 1940's to 1950's. These were used pieces not decorative. There are a couple of nicks on the top edge of one and around two of the holes on top on the same piece(please see pictures) The gold paint is worn on the top of the other. Neither has a cork. Stamped in blue on the underside of each shaker with the words Handpainted Nippon. The lovely floral pattern is gilt accented on a white background. This set is in very good used condition. With no chips, cracks, or crazing. The only flaw I found was one silver color"flea bite" mark about the size of a pencil point on one of the shakers. These shakers still have their original corks. Two antique Japanese? Nippon? porcelain salt or pepper shakers decorated with hand painted roses. Gold accents and delicate moriage dots. The round shaker measures 3" high and is missing the bottom plug. The hexagonal shaker measures 2 1/8" high. Both are in very good condition- no chips or cracks, but a little wear on the decoration.
