Vintage Carved Wood Sandals These carved shoes were a very popular gift for U.S. servicemen to bring home to their wives and girlfriends. Each shoe is constructed of a solid piece of wood that has been carved and hand-painted. There is a green strip of beaded felt on each shoe that has been nailed to the wood. These were likely used solely for display. As the bottom of the shoes show no signs of actually being used for walking. But there are definite signs of age and wear. There are many scratches in the wood, both on the painted areas and the top. Please see all pictures before buying. Someone hand-wrote"5-1/2/ 34" on the bottom. A European 34 is the equivalent of an American 4-1/2. I don't think the size is actually as small as either of those. I am a size 7-1/2 and can squeeze my feet into them. Although not comfortably(and ... moremy foot uses all the available length of the sole) This leads me to believe they are a size 7, or perhaps 7 N. Please check the measurements against a pair of shoes that fit you before buying. The sole is 9-1/2 inches across the bottom, and allows for 9-3/4 inches across the top due to the heel.
