This is an auction for 11 original matching 18-19th century black with red& yellow stripes NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN Fur trade glass beads. These Lewis& Clark Hudson Bay tubular beads measure 19mm long for the largest bead. Some of the Venetian beads have an additional green stripe. There is one very unusual bead which looks black. But when held up to the light is actually a transparent green, see fotos. You can see the bead on the far right of the 4th foto and this is where I first noticed the transparency, none of the other beads are like this. Some of our beads have traveled at least three continents. And have graced numerous owners. Small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. Damage/Repair, Pitting. Chips, some loss of decoration. Bead Size, 12-13 mm diameter. See picture with penny for size comparison(US penny is 19 mm diameter) Strand Length, 11 inches(including string/raffia) Additional information: The term"Trade Beads" typically applies to beads made predominately in Venice and Bohemia and other European countries from the late 1400s through to the early 1900s and traded in Africa ... moreand the Americas. Many of these beads have been attributed to being made in Germany. France and the Netherlands as well. The heyday of this"trade" period was from the mid 1800s through the early 1900s when millions of these beads were produced and traded in Africa.
