Antique black lace glass beads netting French Fashion Doll Mourning dress lot 6
For auction. A lot of 6 pieces of antique lace, hat netting, dress applique jet black glass beading. The long piece of black lace is 35 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long. This French lace is cotton, scalloped and a lovely floral pattern on netting. Very airy delicate lace. There is a nice large piece of delicate knotted netting perfect for hat making. It is 26' by 22' Feels like maybe a cotton rayon blend. There is a smaller piece o netting in a triangle shape. This one is a stiffer cotton fabric with some knots and does have a few little holes. This piece is small but enough to use for a nice doll hat. There is a wonderful Victorian or Edwardian applique which is a floral design scalloped around the edges and on netting. The threading feels to be a cotton rayon blend. Very soft to the feel but a little shiny. Feels more rayon than ... moresilk. Measures 6 inches long by 2 1/2 inches across the top. Bottom goes to a V. Last are 2 different pieces of woven jet black glass beading. The larger one is 28 inches long and in a 1/2 inch long V pattern as well. Great edging. A few of the beading has fallen off and I no longer have it but there is plenty here. The last piece is also jet black glass beaded lace. A smaller piece, 6 inches wide and 3/4 inches long, and a nice design. This nice old pieces would be perfect for making a mourning gown for your Antique French Fashion Lady doll. These were made from drawn tubes of glass which were then cooled and cut into small slices. Once cut. The slices of drawn cane were then exposed to heat until the glass ... moresoftened(slumped) the beads flattened somewhat, and their hard cut edges also softened and rounded. There seems to be no Venetian sample cards showing these slumped slices as ever being sold from Venice although the cane they were made of certainly was. Probably in the heyday of the import of African Trade beads in the early 1970s, these were given the name of"King" beads.
