It has a pair of matching earrings to it, with sterling silver screwbacks. It's in a very good. Used condition though the colour is somewhat grey-black. Some french bakelite can be very dried out, however this one is not. The surface looks a bit wood-like as you can see in pictures. French bakelite does not test positive with simichrome polish. But it gives off a very characteristic smell when held under warm water. Georgian Two Row Mourning Pin Heavy Black Mourning Beads and Gold Clasp
I Believe this Antique Piece To be Georgian Era and it is a mourning Piece. I do not however know what the medium is. It is not Whitby Jet. I do not think it is Gutta Purcha but it could be perhaps Vulcanite, Gutta Purcha or something I have missed. Perhaps someone out there can help me with this? The beads are not that heavy perhaps it is bog oak? I still think it is volcanite. The pin that these are attched to is very heavy. There is no pattern in the beads it is not pressed hair beads. It appears to be very very old and perhpas hand made? Also part of the clasp has a piece of rose gold on it small piece. I would really like some help with this piece. I looked to see if i could take the cross off by itself. I was going to put on just a chain. But you would need some wire snips or something to cut thru the clasp holding it onto the necklace.
