It is covered with a lovely black rose design lace and an unusual 3-D ribbon rose on black net fabric. The six smaller panels are covered in rich and luxurious cut velvet in a deep blue. Green and brown floral design over a blue satin lining, which really stands out when lit. Finishing touches include 6" dyed black rayon fringe, 4" silver glass seed and bugle bead fringe, and silver metallic lace covering the small panels at the bottom. They are slightly graduating in size, and have small bone spacer beads in between, providing a lovely contrast. The necklace is very tactile, and lovely to hold in your hands ~ it could perhaps have been used as prayer beads at one time. The man who gave my husband the beads wrote the info about the beads on paper and since it was in 1979 the handwriting is smeared and nearly impossible to read but I believe he wrote the beads originally came from Yemin.
