Roman Catholic Reliquary intended to hold a Relic of The True Cross Housed in an 800 silver& gilt wire filigree cruciform reliquary. The relic itself is not present. The white cross on which it rested is present. Below it is the Latin inscription. Crucis D. N. I. C. the letters stand for Dominus Noster Iesus Christus. Translated, The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The round relic case is also 800 silver gilt set with paste jewels. It is removable from the reliquary stand. It bears the wax seal of the bishop who authenticated the original relic. The reliquary stand is made of 800/1000 grade silver. It is cruciform. With a solid back and filigree face, and stands on a three step base with a handle at its back to facilitate veneration by the faithful. It is also set with paste jewels. And the 2 rosary pouches show signs of wear. There are some rather interesting relics in this lot. It contains 1 celluloid pin that appears to be hand painted with flowers and wording. Jesus Never Fails, also a tiny framed litho of Virgin Mary that has a hook on the back use to hang it up. Also a celluloid rosary which is however missing the cross. And also a 1/20th 12K gold filled medal of Hands folded in prayer, on a chain and a gold filled medal of St Benedict marked France. This medal is on a chain, that is not necklace length or bracelet length, Some Believe. The St Benedict Medal is suppose to have exceptional powers against the Demons from hell.

ANTIQUE RELIQUARY CROSS, OLD ROMA, 6 SAINT'S RELICS, CATHOLIC PASSIONIST FETISH
Here is a lovely old reliquary cross from old Roma. It opens by unscrewing the pin on top and separating the front and back to reveal the relics within. There are six saint's relics contained and named: St. Paul. St. Gabriel, St. Vincent M(probably St. Vincent Medalgarus, or perhaps St. Vincentia Maria Lopez Y Vicuna) St. Gemma Calgani, St. Dominic and St. Maria. I'm estimating it's age as being from the late 19th century, or what is referred to as the"Grand Tour" period. It looks like silver, but is probably silver over brass or perhaps nickel silver. It measures 3 3/4 inches by 2 inches. The condition is very good and completely original. Including the patina and grime of age which attests to it's long use. There is one small piece of wood inlay missing at upper right front(see close-up with red arrow) You could ... moreeasily give this object a careful cleaning and fill in the missing piece with dark wood or wax, but I prefer it in it's present honest and used condition and like to let it's history speak for itself. A beautiful 3rd Class Relic. St. Maria Goretti on prayer card and a Portiuncula or Porzionculai church(St. Francis of Assisi) cross, both blessed by Pope Pius XII in 1951. St. Maria was a virgin martyr beatified(1947) and canonized(1950) by Pope Pius XII. The Portiuncula, Mother Church of the Order of Francis(where the Order of Franciscans formed) is near Assisi, Italy, where St. Francis lived most of his life. It is said that Christ spoke to and appeared to St. Francis in the Portiuncula. The S. Antique Wood Brass Catholic Reliquary Crucifix Cross Pectoral Saints (13) Rubies
Vintage wood and brass crucifix cross reliquary measuring 3" tall without the hanging ring or screw closure at the base and 1 1/2" wide. A few small gouges to the brass. Two 1/8" cracks in the wood on the back at the hand nails but the wood is in no danger of falling off. Inside the cross are labels. Not all of the letters can be seen as they are quite tiny spaces. Reads as follows: Gerard; Rom. A; Bened. M; Nicol, Leonard; Severi. Libori, Urbana; Vitalis, Vinc. M; Respic; Afrae, Galli, A. Under each label are thirteen little chunks I cannot decipher and I will not disturb the labels to inspect under those further. Whatever they may be, they are being gifted with the cross. Between each label there are and were in the past stones. There are three faceted red stones that appear to be rubies. There are six pearl beads with hollowed ... moreout holes. There are seven empty spaces where it appears there once were glued or secured stones. I am just speculating but I believe the pearl beads were added later and at one time all the labels had faceted rubies in between and most of the rubies either fell out or were taken out on purpose. The base is silk ribbon with a silk roping trim. The case is locked closed with the screw in knob. Other than the INRI plaque(Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews) there is no writing or other markings. In researching, it appears this may have been a pectoral cross worn by Catholic Nuns. I cannot be sure of this as I had purchased it at an estate auction. It appears to have some good age as the brass is somewhat tarnished and having nice worn edges. Some items really don’t need a description. And a piece of the cross of Jesus Christ is one of them. The shard is housed in a metal case that is in great condition. There is some discoloration of the metal due to the age of the piece. But that’s on the back. The front appears very nice. The card on the inside which holds the shard is also in great shape. There doesn’t appear to be any fading or discoloration. This is truly a rare and magnificent item. This relic was given as a gift to my grandfather by the Carmelite order for his dedication and work for Mount Carmel high school in Chicago. Along with other acts. The order stood by the genuine authenticity of the relic, but we have no way to“prove it” one way or the other. Stating it came from a girl from heugem Mieke hemelsoet, she got it from H. van den Wijmelenberg, whom I found out after some googling was responsible for placing the relics in the saint michaels church in a monstrans. Fascinating Antique 19th Century or Possibly earlier Miniature Double Sided Painting Portrait Brooch of Jesus as a Boy with a Glowing Crown of Flowers on His head. He is looking at a figure of what is to come later, the Crucifixion. The other side shows another figure, I am not sure who this is, I believe it could be Judas holding the bag of Silver Coins he received after the betrayal. I wanted to open the case but I could not get it open, the image is clear but the glass needs cleaning, I do not think it has been opened since it was made. The miniature measures 1 1/2" tall.
