Vintage Silver Pin, Brooch, Pendant From Peru, Sunrise Over Andes with Llama
Up for auction is a silver Peruvian Pin/Pendant. The pin is 1 3/4 inches in diamenter and seems to portray the sunrise over the Andes mountains in the background with an alpaca walking in the foreground. In picture#2 you can see that the pin has a front part and a back part which makes it very attractive. On the back it is marked"825" and"PERU" The pin is in excellent condition. I don't know the age of the pin but it came from an estate where the owner regularly travelled to South America between 30 and 40 years ago. I have not polished it. But you might like to.

It is a continual range of highlands along the western coast of South America. This range is about 4,300 miles long, about 120 miles to 430 miles wide(widest between 18° south and 20° south latitude) and of an average height of about 13,000 feet. The Andes extend from north to south through seven South American countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Antique pipe or incense burner, cast brass--Peru? Andes culture? Africa?
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Hello, This is a fascinating object. Looks like it should be a pipe, but has no opening in the mouthpiece. Perhaps an incense burner. A man’s head adorns the bowl. A few worn spots on the piece show that the metal is brass. And then in the bowl, under the brass, is stone, as can be seen through the small hole in the man’s chin. There is a beautiful patina on the surface throughout. The object is 7.5” long. And weighs just over one pound. Another interesting aspect is a shorn piece of metal that protrudes from the stem. At 2 inches from the“mouthpiece” end. This would seem to indicate that a piece is missing, or else the whole thing was attached to another object. It has a Peruvian look to it. But then again some elements are reminiscent of Africa. I am not sure exactly what the origin is, or how ... moreold. Whatever the case, it makes for an impressive display. Plurinational State of Bolivia. Basic Description: Five authentic indigenous Native American hand-woven flat textiles. Language Groups: Aymara. Approximate Age: Early to late-20th century. Materials: Handspun natural and dyed sheep wool. Handspun natural llama wool and handspun natural alpaca wool. The corner tassels and flat edge tubing of the large merint inkuña include red synthetic trade yarns. Approximate Size: The largest merint inkuña measures 28 inches by 27 inches. The smallest istalla measures 12 1/2 by 11 inches(excluding tassels) Condition: All are good ... moreto excellent. Used condition. Please see AKATAKSA TEXTILE“CONDITION” TERMS below. None have holes. This lot is sold mostly based on photographs. Not written descriptions. All display either quite well or beautifully. Remarks: This lot includes five Andean ritual textiles. The largest is a merint inkuña from east or north of Lake Titikaka used for carrying foods to social or ceremonial gatherings. The more colorful textile with nice design work is a kuka tari from Provincia Ingavi and was used for storing and serving sacred coca leaves. The small natural textile with four corner tassels from Provincia Omasuyos is an istalla. Used traditionally for wrapping umbilical cords of newborn babies as well as for holding small sacred objects. These were also used as a ground cloth for placing cavies(guinea pigs) for spiritual sacrifice or for ritual slaughter in curing rites. The two smaller textiles with colored stripes are phista tari from Provincia Pacajes. These were wrapped around women's wrists during ceremonial dances for sharing small amounts of sacred coca leaves with all those attending the ceremony. All five are offered for one low price.
