It includes four different booklets and it says the device is called the Vi-Ray-O High Frequency Generator. The set includes the generator and then two glass tube probes and then a metal probe. I plugged it in and got the flat paddle probe to work but not the comb shaped one– might just have it in wrong or something. Neat piece and guaranteed old! Case measures about 11¼" long. Up for bid is a QUACK MEDICINE. Vi-Ray-O Violet Ray Electrotherapy Device made by Western Coil& Electrical Co. The inventor W. Turnout Lewis son of car producer and wagon maker William Lewis, worked in the same building that Dr. Snoop.famed maker of Snoop' s Restorative Tonic. The plaque states Racin, Wis. His company made radios and he decided to try and get in on the medical market like Snoop had and this was his invention. This item states Pat. Pending so it is on the early side of his manufacturing. He started making them in 1923 and his product was outlawed in 1930 by the Federal Goverment! CHECK out on the web electrotherapy museum and Journal times is where I got my info. They give tours to that historic building today. I plugged in the device and it hums and makes louder noise as you turn the knob but I didn't see any ... morelight or feel any shock from the glass wand. The box is NOT in good condition. An interesting quack medical device. Still in use by some groups of folks even today. This is a Violet Wand, manufactured by Western Coil& Electrical Co. The wand, itself, measures 7 3/4 inches long. This device comes in its original leatherette covered wooden case. This is fresh to the market, as I recently acquired this from the garage of a local engineer. It doesn't have any of the glass tubes that fit in it(you can find them here on eBay) but I tested it, and it is in working condition. One photo shows the metal end to one of the tubes that was originally used with this item. It is marked Patents Pending, which indicates this is an early item. The leatherette has separated on the back along the lid joint(shown) but overall this neat gizmo is in Very Good condition, and ready for use(once you have the bulb that goes in it) USA ... moresales only. This catalog is a booklet format of 48 pages plus the covers measuring about 6” x 9” This catalog has several photos and drawings and includes information on the medical benefits of treatment with Violet Rays including many quack claims of questionable efficacy. According to this catalog these Vi-Ray-O machines could successful treat everything from cancer to dandruff and pretty much all other medical conditions. Electrode has a 5 foot cord; the power cord is 5 ½ feet. The leatherette case shows extensive wear. And is coming apart at the seams. Leather handle is broken.
