Old style cloth cord is in great shape, plug and cord worg but plug is missing it's faceplate. See pictures. Bakelite unit is in very good condition with some scuffs and scratches. The box is in very poor condition; the top is no longer connected to the bottom, and the whole rear side of the box is gone. The power unit is a nice*bakelite and is in good condition. The cord has some fraying right at the base of the unit. And in multiple places along its length. But nothing serious enough to prevent it from lighting up and emitting the normal electrical discharge ~ which is adjustable with the knob on the end of the power unit. However. The cord deterioration is such that we would definitely not be playing around in bed with it. Or putting undue stress on the cord. Around the adjusting knob. It reads'The Master Electric Co. Chicago. I am offering the Energex Electric Quack Medical Devise. The case is in good condition. The leather handle is intact and the metal hinges to close it work well, the green fabric lining is bright and clean, it has a red ribbon with ENERGEX in gold across the top corner, the case measures 14 1/2 x 9 x 3 1/4 inches. The case has places for 5 attachments. But there are only 3 attachments, and one doesn't have a slot that fits it. There is a metal attachment and two glass attachments. The devise has a label ENERGEX Type H F and 30 volts and 120 watts AC or DC. On the end is a knob that turns and PAT. PENDING BD# 10. The heavy duty cord and plug are in good condition. I plugged it in and it makes a running noise. I tryed one of the glass attachments and OUCH I got an electric shock! Didn't see any blue light going through it, but I diffinently ... moregot a shock. Where do I begin with this. Functional piece or quackery? When I came across this cool Vintage piece I had to have it because I've never come across one before! I can't find another on ebay or even online so not fully informed other than it's old. And powers up fine. Made by the infamous BRUNSWICK Co. this is a must have for a bowler or collector of odd things! It claims the ultra-violet rays"destroys athletes foot(surface fungi) in 21 seconds" Of course I cannot guarantee this to be true, just quoting what it says. The amber front shield along with the access way(hole) at the front to get to the on/off switches are suppose to help protect from the rays exposure. Not sure if it is pre-1930 but definitely old vintage. NOTE: It is my suggestion to replace the UV bulbs with functional(safe) ones if possible or take them ... moreoff altogether so as to assure safety. This was filthy when I found it and I gave it a cursory cleaning. I wasn't expecting it to work but it did first try! Just like florescent lighting you have to hold down the red(on) button until it fires up. Condition is very good condition with only a few tiny cracks toward the rear(see last pic) All else is minute considering age. This is a"Renulife" ultra violet high frequency generator machine made by the Chas. Branston Company. This machine dates from the late 1920's. These machines were sold to doctors and the doctors were told that the electric shock provided by the ultra violet ray in the tubes promoted good health. This is now known as medical quackery. This devise does not turn on when plugged in and does not produce a violet ray. It needs repair. This devise comes with three electrode applicators:two glass tubes and one metal tube. I believe the case is missing two applicators. This includes a pamphlet of instructions regarding the"Renulife" application. The case internally is in good condition. This is an"Energex" machine made by the Sears Roebuck Company around the late 1920's. This is a"Medical Quackery" devise. This is a c.1915 era Halliwell-Shelton"Violet Ray" kit in its original box. With its original parts and instructional booklet. The item is a"high frequency generator" that was marketed as a cure-all for many ailments in the era before WWI. The kit includes the black generator tool with electric cord. Four attachments made of glass, silver tone metal and cork, the instructional booklet and a green inspector's tag. The item has been untested. There is a fray in the electrical cord near the tip of the generator tool, which can be seen in the last photo.
