Up for auction Extremely Rare. Highly Collectible Radium Water Jug from the Bungalow Hotel in Claremore, OK. The jug dates from the early 1900's. The Bungalow Hotel and Bath House was located in Claremore. OK, the home of Will Rogers. In the early 1900's Claremore was more well-known for its radioactive waters with purported healing abilities. In 1903 George Eaton. Drilling for oil near Claremore hit upon a foul smelling water which would prove just as lucrative in its time of healthful springs and spas which were believed to have almost magical healing properties- unbeknownst to those who could afford such luxuries, these green glowing springs would only add to health issues and eventually kill anyone who relied on them as a new-found remedy for what ailed them. The water that bubbled to the top of the ground near Claremore was promoted ... moreas radioactive having many healing properties. To cater to wealthy tourists and those seeking a remedy doctors could not provide a number of bath houses were constructed in the"Radium town" Today the area has fallen into disrepair. The water jug was a gimmick to collect as much money as possible from those desperate for a cure. Some jugs were sold in the hotel gift shop and it is believed others were left in guest rooms to be refilled daily. Very few have survived and even fewer survived in this condition. The"kiss" on the back of this example is actually desirable and indicates the firing process the ceramic jug was produced by. Absolutely a rare find. Esp. in this condition.

Up for sale is a wonderful old piece of Medical Quackery. Called a Radium Ore Revigator. Patent date: 1912. Manufactured by the Radium Ore Revigator Co. of San Francisco. Ca. Ceramic lid has been replaced. Spigot has lots of wear and oxidation. Not useable. Blue writing is still very clear and legible. Will ship the orig. ceramic lid with crock. Orig. lid has most of edges broken off and missing but would be a good template to have one remanufactured by a ceramic artist. Color is an easy color to replicate. Great find of a radium ore"Revigator" water cooler project like the other one I have this week this on is zinc glazed. I would not recommend using it of course but a great touchstone to quack medicine.This is a true antique item with a patent date of 1912. Condition issues are as follows; body of cooler is a zinc glaze has lots of crazing to it. Aside from that almost no other issues except for normal 100 year old stoneware manufacturing imperfections. California Gorgeous Mint Unused Condition At auction is featured a fantastic Estate Sale purchase from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Listed is this lovely large antique Revigator Radium Ore Jug patented in 1912 by the Revigator Building Company of San Francisco. California. Vintage Quackery and early fascination with the miracle powers of radioactivity were responsible for the creation of this little gem! Although now scientifically known to be impossible, in the early 1900s it was believed that allowing ones' drinking water to soak inside a jug made from radioactive clay would, put the radioactive energy of the sun back into water to kill bacteria. Unfortunately this does nothing ... moreto remove lead or other heavy metal toxins from the drinking water of the 1900s. Hence the medical quackery. This particular Revigator came out of an antique country store being closed in Oregon. And this wonderful bit of history was displayed as an example of what could be ordered by wagon or rail. This crock is in original mint condition and has never had a spigot installed(as both the spigot and lid were available upon purchase) and the crock retains the ORIGINAL cork stopper. This crock is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, breaks or other euphemisms for broken! This is a gorgeous mint condition piece! First and foremost. You undoubtedly wonder about Radium Ore. Yes, it's radioactive; Yes it would be unwise to drink water from this crock; Yes the level of radiation is considered quite safe for displaying this item in your home, for your entire lifetime. This jug is only(mildly) hazardous were you to either use it as intended, or to gnaw on it and ingest the stoneware. I cannot state the safety of this any plainer. You used to put water in it and then put it in the"ice box" and get a drink of cool water that has been radiated with Radium that is in Material that the Jug was made of.
