One of the better-known illustrators of this era, used an art nouveau style to produce a classic white knight theme. This white knight charges at a tobacco plant that is drawn to look like a devil/demon. Effectively driving his lance through demon tobacco. Whether this cure worked is not known. However. It is interesting to note that over a hundred years after this advertisement, the Food& Drug Administration has sought authorization to regulate tobacco as a narcotic. VINTAGE WESTERN ELECTRIC AT & T SHORTWAVE RADIO DIATHERMY MACHINE QUACK MEDICINE
This is a pretty scarce Western Electric apparatus. This is a short wave radio Diathermy medical device. This has some age to it and it looks late 40's to early 50's to me. Somehow. This dude takes short wave radio waves and it creates deep, penetrating heat(quack medicine at it's finest, although these are still in use today) I plugged this in and it lit up and I am pretty sure it still works. This thing is compact at 16" x 16" x 11" and must weight at least 40 pounds. The case is built like a tank and has a drawer that the two heating pads and cords are stored in it. The case has a couple of scuffs, but is well built and in good shape. The lid is removable and the wood back is held in place by four screws. Up for auction here today is a no 4 D.D. Home medical apparatus. I bought this from a estate sale a few years back for a 100.00 and I am just trying to recoup some of my money. It is missing quite a few different things to actually be considered complete. What it comes with is pictured in the above photographs. And what it is missing is outlined in the condition description. If you are missing a few parts to make yours complete. Or are looking for a box that is in decent shape then this could be the item for you. A couple of good points to mention about this apparatus are as follows: The label is in pretty good legible condition which is more then I can say for some of the other machines I have seen on ebay that have sold. The hinges are in good shape also with no broken flathead screws. Holloways Ointment and Pills were created and promoted( and we do mean promoted) by Thomas Holloway(1800-1883) Holloway was British and he developed pills and an ointment. He used a variety of promotional techniques for the products including one in which he went to the English seaports and promoted to sailors. Who then began spreading the product around the world. Holloway became wealthy and a philanthropist. One of his most famous contributions was the astounding and ornate Royal Holloway College, which is part of the University of London. This label was issued during the Civil War and shows two soldiers in an unknown conflict, one man treating another man's wound. There are roundels containing text on each side of the illustration. This quack device was first patented in 1919. Then again in 1931. I put two D batteries in the unit and got my shock, so it must be working. This comes to you with the Electreat unit, two palm pads, an attaching cord, an internal electrode, the"how to use" brochure and the original box with instructions printed on the inside of the lid. They do not claim to cure disease. The internal electrode"was designed for practitioner's use" Ouch. The inside of the battery chamber shows some corrosion from batteries left in the unit, still working. The accessories are very good, the brochure good, the box good with all the seams split on the lid, the instructions on the inside of the lid clear and unstained. VINTAGE DECO ERA BAKELITE HANDLES ROLLING PIN QUACK DOCTOR MEDICINE TOOL NR
NO RESERVE… This auction is for some type of Rolling Pin Tool. That was likely something used by a Doctor maybe as a massager? I have one photo with a yellow pencil pointing at the center end of one of the Bakelite Handles. I am trying to point out where there was once an electrical cord attached, that has been cut off and now gone. The entire rolling pin is approx. 20 inches long, and about 2 1/2 inch in diameter at the center area. In one of my photos I have a yellow pencil point at an area of the black rubber ribs. I am trying to point out age cracking between one of the rubber ribs. There is also another on the other side. The rubber ribbing seems to be securely attached and not coming off. Marked along one area of the black rubber ribs is, United States Patent No. January 12th, 1932" I am not sure how the piece would be opened up ... moreto connect a new electric cord. Rare GERMAN RADIOSOL Quack Medicine Violet Ray Device w/14 glass wands & case
Please see my photos and read about shipping and handling. You are bidding on a RARE Antique Electrical Quack Medical VIOLET RAY Device called RADIOSOL. It was made in GERMANY. IT IS IN WORKING CONDITION. And in its original case. There are 2 metal hollow rods, and 14 glass wands, all of which are UNUSUAL, and are intact and working. They produce a violet color, with an electrical sting and sound, when held to the skin. The small wand with two metal ends, sits in the holder loosely, but does produce an orange color. Included in the wands is the RARE Ozone Inhalator wand in 3 pieces. The top piece is attached to the one below it, with a rubber hose which has cracked from age, but the glass pieces are intact. Also the cork wrap around at the middle piece is split and taped. There are 16 metal clips in the case that hold the wands. Three of ... morethe clips have one side broken off, but I have the pieces, and perhaps they can be spot soldered. There also is a small piece of paper with German words, and a little 1" gass tube, see photo 4. The electrical box is all intact and works well, with 110 or 220 volts.The cords are good. The holder for the wand is in very good condition.The inside of the case has its original felt covering, and partitions. The case itself is sturdy, but does show wear and useage, SEE PHOTOS. The handle is missing, but the two clips work well. The case measures approx. 13 3/4" in width, 9 3/4" in depth, and approx. 4 1/4" in height. You are bidding on a wonderful VINTAGE MARVEL'S VIOLET RAY QUACK MEDICINE MACHINE. It actually works and is in excellent condition. The cord and plug are good. The comb glass attachment doesn't light up like the other attachment but it may just need tweaking. It is pretty cool and gives a shock in various intensities that you adjust with the knob. It definitely wakes you up! It gives a beautiful VIOLET glow. The case measures 6" by 12 1/2" by 2 1/2" A wonderful addition to your collection in COLLECTOR'S condition! If you have any questions. ANTIQUE DUPLEX OXYGENATOR TURN OF THE CENTURY QUACK MEDICINE
This is a really nice piece that is in fine condition for its age. It is a Duplex Oxygenator made by the Oxygenator Company of Buffalo. New York. This I believe was made in the very early 1900's. It must have cured everything from the common cold, to STD's and cancer. This is a great piece for anyone who collects medial quackery devices. I believe this to be complete and comes in the original aluminum case. I don't have the instructions so I don't know how to use it. Even if I had them, I don't think I'd go and hock myself up to it.
