Vintage/ Antique Tin Medicone Foot Cream for Fungus Hospital Sample This old medicine tin contains 1/10 oz. of Medicone Foot Cream for Fungus Infections. The active ingredients listed on the top are: Menthol-camphor-thymol. Tar Distillate, Sulphur Acid Salicylic. On the back we find that this was a“Hospital Packet” sample; one could purchase a 1 oz. tube for $1.00“at Druggists. Directions are provided on the back as well. There is a little of the ointment inside—a powerful smelling stuff. The tin is 1 5/8” in diameter. It is in excellent condition, with a very small spot of rust on the top. The vigorous George Presbury Rowell, who pioneered many of the rules of advertising agency practice, sought to put all of his special know-how to work in the creation of a patent medicine. He did not belong to the dish-water school, wanting instead a remedy that had some therapeutic merit. Through a medical student, Rowell learned about a mixture which doctors over the years had been prescribing for upset stomachs and whenever a medicine seemed ... morecalled for on general principles. Since dyspepsia continued at the forefront of American ailments, in climates cold and warm, in summer and winter, such a formula suited Rowell's purpose. The ingredients were capable of being compressed into tablets by machines recently introduced to the pharmaceutical industry, thus assuring other qualities Rowell desired in his remedy. The base has a brass tone and is bright and shiny with a little darkening. There are a couple of scratches down to bright base metal. There are some brown marks and tiny scratches on the label. The inside is bright and shiny and looks new. The color scheme is such that I can't tell if the colors have faded or if they are as original. 1.75" x.9" You will receive the exact item shown in the photos. So please examine them carefully. Tin in great unopened condition. With original seal ... moreintact around entire lid. It was obviously protected inside the box, as box shows more oxidation wear to surface than the tin. One pea-sized area of oxidation/rust in upper corner of black box where Himrod's image is located on the front of the tin. Otherwise, only minor surface scratches and minimal dents on tin. The box is very fragile. As happens with 100 yr. 0ld cardboard, but it is all still here except for one top inside flap. The other flap is torn off, but is inside the box. The color on that flap is closer to the tin color, showing how the box exterior has faded. My husband's grandmother is still living, and will be 107 next month, Lord willing, and she's faded a bit, too, but still getting around! The flap that is present contains advertising for"Himrod's Tablets" for"Habitual Constipation" The box has a tear down the center front from the top edge that is 1 1/8" long. And the flap edges are ratty and lid fold torn at edges. Every corner shows handling wear and there is some separation at top corners of box. Check out the photos carefully. Tin measures 3 5/8" high x 2 1/4" wide x 1 3/8" deep. Box measures approx.

Red. Gold and black"Rival Herb Tablets" tin from the early 1900s. This quack medicine was manufactured in Quebec, Montreal and Detroit. These"chocolate coated" tablets advertise on the sides of the tin as a cure for a huge range of ailments from constipation to rheumatism to female complaints. In 1919 the US Food and Drug analyzed the tablets and found that they were not coated in chocolate and had no ingredients that would support their curative claims. This little tin measures 3.25X2.25X1.25 inches with a hinged lid. There is text on all sides including the bottom. Wear and rust have made some areas illegible. The top is in the best condition.

Dr. POMROY'S EYE SALVE. Small medicine tin in original packaging with directions
Up for bid is an antique tin of Dr. Pomroy's ophthalmic ointment or eye salve. I was able to remove the paper packaging without damaging it to reveal a silver tone round tin wrapped in the paper with the directions. The packaging also has a 1 cent proprietary stamp attached to it. Dr. Pomroy's eye salve claimed to be"an infallible remedy for diseases of the eye" The package insert lists a variety of eye ailments that it cures including"weakness of vision. From whatever cause, are cured by a few applications of this wonderful salve" The blue advertising cover is in good condition. The paper with the directions has quite a few tears. The tin has quite a few spots of corrosion. The tin did not open easily so I decided not to force it open and possibly damaging it, but by the weight of the tin I believe the contents ... moreto be full. Here is a great. Early quack medicine tin, c.1910 Dr. J.D. Kellogg`s Asthma Remedy. Made in Canada, by the Northrop& Lyman Co. Limited, Toronto, Canada. This is the earlier and rarer variant of this tin, before they were based in Buffalo NY. French on the reverse side of tin. Most of the original seal intact, with nice company name on top of lid, great graphics and lithography on this tin. Color is very good, there are a few little blemishes, a scratch on the face of the tin that looks like smoke wafting from the lamp chimney, the seamed side has a small rust spot and a little ding, and there is a little ding on the opposite side, but for tin of around a 100 years age, very good. Up for bid is a vintage original quack homeopathic pill tin. Embossed on the lid of the tin is Dr. B Lust's Herb III Pills New York. The tin is empty and perfect condition. 2" diameter. Benedict was born and raised in Germany. In the Black Forest. After working as a waiter in Baden-Baden, Geneva, and New York City, he became ill(with what he felt was tuberculosis) and decided to return to Germany to seek the water cure offered by Father Sebastian Kneipp. He claimed his health improved dramatically, and he became an even more fervent believer in natural medicine. On Father Kneipp's advice. He returned to the United States to spread the word. After opening an early health food store, he began publishing several German and English language magazines advocating hydrotherapy and nature cure. Lennon's Dutch homeopathic medicine was used extensively in South Africa in the 1800 and well into the 1900. This tin is a home medicine cabinet. It has some old and new medicine bottles(some with contents) inside between the tin dividers. Only one missing. The booklet comes in 3 langages and describes the healing powers contained in each bottle. This is a great example of early homeopathic medicine. On one side of the tine there is reference in Dutch to its safety for animals: Medicine for Ostriches. Horses, sheep, cows, etc.

Antique/vintage quack medicine tin that originally contained Chocolate Coated Ripans Tabules. Manufactured by Wyeth Chemical Company of Detroit, Michigan. The product was apparently a laxative, but the advertising for it, indicated that it could cure anything related to the stomach, including headaches, and it usually worked within 35 minutes! This particular tin probably dates to the earlier 1900's. It's just under 2" in diameter and about 1/2" deep. NO CONTENTS- TIN IS EMPTY. CONDITION USED- VINTAGE/ANTIQUE Some fading of the color/graphics. Some scratches. My old hands haven't been able to open tin, so don't know condition of interior. inkfrog terapeak. Excellent Complete Condition– Really Like New– Unused! ~ Lots of pictures of all the contents! Great advertising tin– with an interesting history! This is a little 1 3/8" in diameter old vintage round metal tin. From the 1920s. It reads"Free sample ~ Turpo ~ A Compound Turpentine Ointment” Aids in the Relief of Head Colds and Nasal Congestion” I guess if you rub turpentine in your nostrils it might clear you out! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From The Glessner Company. Findlay, Ohio I found some interesting information on the web about this company and its famous product: The Glessner Medicine Co. Has a long history in Findlay. One that includes a landmark Ohio State Supreme Court case that set trademark law precedent. Here is a picture of the Company and of their famous Vaporizer where you could use the TURPO Ointment as this tin represents ... morea sample of. The Glessner family owned the Findlay Daily Courier. In 1887. While still working for the family newspaper, Leonard Glessner started the Glessner Medicine Co. with a recipe for what he sold as Dr. Drake's German Cough and Croup Remedy. He worked out of his home. And soon left the newspaper business to work on the medicine company full time. An interesting side note is that there was real live Dr. Drake living and practicing in Findlay at the time. Glessner had gotten the rights to his Dr. Drake's recipe from a real Dr. Drake of Iowa. The Dr. Drake of Findlay felt he was losing out on money. And also that Glessner didn't have the right to use his name. So the Findlay Dr. Drake started selling a competitive product, similarly named and marketed, in Findlay with the Dr. Drake name. Naturally. Glessner and the Findlay Dr. Drake sued each other. In a nutshell, Drake lost, since he was not the original Dr Drake, and Glessner had the rights to the original Dr. Drake name, and that one cannot trade mark a person's name, and that the Findlay Dr. Drake was guilty of fraud as he had purposely intended to deceive his customers.
