Vintage Pilling-Made Philadelphia Battery-medical quakery
On auction is this Vintage Pilling-Made Philadelphia Battery. Used in quackery medicine over 100 years ago. This battery comes in a well constructed wooden box measuring 8.5" x 5" x 5" with tongue In groove corners. The pads, wires, and handles come in the upper compartment while the single cell battery is in the lower compartment. The instructions are printed, and easily read, on the inside of the top lid. The top and bottom compartments are closed with metal hooks. For the collector of vintage medical quackery gadgets this is great find.

UP FOR AUCTION is this very interesting medical"quackery" diathermy machine. This portable machine is made by the E. J. Rose Manufacturing Co. Scientific Electric Apparatus. Type: PRO No. 1193. VOLTS: 110. AMPS: 6, CYC: 60. Voltage is measured in milliamperes. Measures 20.5" x 14.5" x 11.5" and weighs approx. 35 lbs. The dial is pattern NO/64 by Jewel Electrical Instrument Co. 2119. Box is powered by a small fuse. Original wood box with glass lid. Great condition for it's age and a true collectible for the medical equipment lovers. Diathermy is electrically induced heat used to heat body tissues for medical purposes. Very old medical quackery device! Has 8 neon like tubes with red. Orange, blue and violet colors pulsing thru them. When you put your hand, elbow, or head on them you get a tingle and it makes a humming sound when touched also. There is a level adjustment and it works perfectly. Also it has the original finish and nickel played trim. The original carrying handle also. This thing is very odd and I can't find one like it online anywhere. The last picture shows the bottom of the wooden box has broken and the 2 Columbia Igniter Dry Cell batteries are exposed.
