Ex library- Denver Galvano-therapeutics. by WB Neftel 1880. Seems to be the old low power(and not so low) treatment of various physical ills. Not the later electro shock brain'treatments' Photos of the contents pages list some of this, and the case studies/reports are really intersesting. I wish I had time to study this more.alas. I'm not saying this is quackery. But it is from an interesting time in medical science. I have taken some photos of the text and it really is fascinating stuff. This fascinating booklet measures some 7 inches by 5 1/8 inches in size. There are 32 numbered pages. No illustrations. It was published in 1904 by Signal Electric Manufacturing Co. in Menominee, Michigan. There is a 2 page table of contents listing all of the ailments that electricity can supposedly cure. Everything from abscesses. Loss of appetite, cold feet, writer's cramp, liver ailments, cataracts, loss of smell, and"falling out of the hair" Plus much, much, more. Multiple cures are on each page. Anatomical 1895 Antique Illustrated Quack Medicine Book Peoples Medical Adviser
Up for auction is an antique"The People's Common Sense Medical Adviser. It was published in 1895 by the World's Dispensary. Which ran the Invalid's Hotel and Surgical Institution, a sanitarium in Buffalo, NY. The Invalids Hotel was started up by Dr. Pierce, who sold a big quantity and variety of quack medicine during the Victorian era. There are many, many testimonials through out the book from people who supposedly got healed at the sanitarium or from The World's Dispensary/ Dr. Pierces Products(see 6th photo. There are plenty of illustrations including pictures of the sanitarium, anatomical drawings and 3 colored plates of skin diseases. The binding of the book is intact but cracked. The front cover is ripped about half way off from the spine. There are a few loose pages. Most of the pages are pretty clean with minor ... morestaining/ smudging, with the cover page as an exception, which has a large stain. Dated 1894 it's Part II Chronic Deseases of the Digestive Organs. It's 136 pages covers treatment and causes of the diseases, however I see it more as a promotional tool for a Dr. Pierce's familiar Remedies which are mentioned through out. This includes his'Pleasant Pellets' and his bottles of'Golden Medical Discovery' There's a 40 page section of Testimonials from persons(includes photos or drawings of them) who claim to have been cured by using the good Doctor's remedies!
