Other then Cautery, which was burning, I'm not sure what the other two did. Also other various pieces on the marble top interior, among which is a knife switch, electrode posts, and a tuning mechanism(looks like a rheostat) Various prods, metallic and glass round out the inventory. Whether it is a complete inventory of all that originally came with it, I do not know, but, if not complete, certainly substantially so. It must have been the MRI of its day. Of course now that we have matured as beings of the 21st century, we know these are just really cool( beautiful) devices used to exploit the new miracle of Electricity. I could go on& on but it is getting late& you all know what these will& won't do. I will say this guy does work very well at making the 11 included gas filled"probes" glow a brilliant violet. The wiring is intact& well insulated. I did not hesitate to plug this guy in& give it a good testing. I am however( as with all the electronics I offer) selling this device as-is& as a collectors piece. The attached hand unit seems to made of Bakelite. Most of the antique violet rays in the US were produced before the and some of the larger US manufacturers of violet rays were Renulife. Fitzgerald and Fisher. Companies who manufactured violet ray devices, made many other types of electrical appliances as well, e.g. Star Electric, which also manufactured stock ticker machines. Many of the companies who were able to continue manufacturing violet rays after the depression, stopped making them due to when they began manufacturing radio coils or other electrical components for the war instead. A typical violet ray device consisted of an ungrounded electrical control box that controlled the interrupter and which housed the magneto coil. And an attached bakelite or other handle housing which contained the high voltage coil and an insertion port for attachments. Glass evacuated tubes of varying shapes and for different therapeutic uses could be inserted into the bakelite handle to apply the resulting current to different parts of the body.

One steel attachment, case key, guarantee card dated May 7, 1923, two sheets(four pages) from the original electrode catalog(including cover) 4 sheets(8 pages) from the original instructions, a full replacement set of instructions, and an"Important" instructional sheet. The outer case is in very good shape, with no tears or rips in the covering.but with some edge wear. All of the metal the corner protectors are in place, as is the working lock(key included) Inside the case, the felt lining is in very good shape; no rips or tears. The wood finish on the control panel is shiny, and the bakelite electrode handle is uncracked and unbroken. Up for your consideration is a hard to find piece of vintage"Quack medicine" So called. Arnold No. 1 Massage Vibrator in the original box, with all the attachments and the certificate/warranty. This is a very simply constructed device, basically being a motor that creates a vibration function when powered on. It was advertised to cure a whole range of ailments, including but not limited to, wrinkles, deafness, lame back, and scalp diseases. Was also advertised as a means of"Breast enlargement" as comical as it is. The vibrator measures just under 9" long not including the cord. With a plastic/Bakelite handle and a chrome plated body. The on/off speed setting is at the base of the handle. The vibrator comes with 6 different attachments which can be screwed on to the tip piece. The original sponge is included, along ... morewith a plug attachment that allows the cord to be screwed in to a light bulb socket for power, which is quite unusual. The warranty is glued to the back of the box. The cosmetic condition of the vibrator is excellent. It's seen obvious use. But there are no notable dents, deep scratches, or any form of serious damage. It unfortunately does not seem to be working, however. It may be due to the cord having some fraying and power not getting to it properly, or the engine may have seized. All the rubber attachments have naturally hardened, though with the except of the small nub attachment(Missing 4 nubs) they are all damage free albeit showing wear. The sponge has also hardened naturally. The cloth on the inside of the box has faded, and the lamination is peeling in places on the exterior. The leather handle is torn. NO RESERVE.
