Vial of chlorodyne (morphine & cannabis patent medicine) with a bit of staining
This is a very rare item- an example of chlorodyne. A medicine developed in England that featured both morphine, and cannabis extract. The label is horribly faded& stained, and the bottle has a lot of staining inside- I leave it to the new owner to decide how or if to clean it. I'm a big believer in leaving apothecary items in original condition. While chlorodyne was quite common, the morphine often left to overdose- and it was eventually phased out. Apothecary items from a century ago hail from an era that was very different from today. Drugs that we think of as hard street drugs. Like heroin and cocaine, could be ordered mail order from the Sears catalog. Actually, I'm not positive you could order heroin- but I do know you could order morphine, which is closely related. I'm fascinated by this period. And hope someone equally ... moreso will pick up this piece and cherish it.
