Brass Blood Letting(Bleeder) English Scarificator ca1900( Brass with12 steel blades. There is a depth adjuster for the blades. The cocking leverand trigger all function. The housing on this model measures 1 ½” X 1 ¾” X 1 ½”The blades are all present. No chips or missing edges. This design goes back a long way. There are no markings on this so I am guessing this dates to the end of the 18th or early 19th Century based on another one I found on line that is exactly like this one. Thanks for looking.

The bleeder has four forged steel fleams contained in a brass plain case. The case covers the blade portion completely. The fleams are on a swivel and they can be swiveled out to use then swiveled back in to protect them. There are four such fleams. The brass case is undecorated. I have always thought that this item dated from the late 18th century because of the workmanship and especially because of the fitted case which has many attributes of that time period. This item is in working order and in good condition other than some light surface rusting on the trigger which is the only part on this bleeder which is made of iron. It's paper box.Which has a leather hinge, on the back,is no longer connects the bottom to the top. It has a fine steel hook and catch,which is very typical of the late 18th century. The case is lined in velvet,sides and top. The bleeder measures 2 1/2"high and 1 3/4" across. The box is 3" high. Good luck!

Antique 19th C. Medical Spring-Loaded Lancet Fleam Bleeder, Brass w/Case
This antique brass bleeder was found recently when cleaning an old house for a sale. I found that medical tools like this were used frequently in the 19th century. It was used for bloodletting. Two piece tool is in very good condition. Has spring loaded steel blade which still has lots of tension. All pieces move freely& work well. Tool comes in a wooden case covered with a dark brown paper or very thin leather& measures 2-5/8" x 1-1/2" x 5/8" Hinge is torn into. Case has small hook closure. Both covering& interior lining have aged. Bleeder is engraved with what appears to be an upside down 8 or B& the letter G. Piece displays well& would be a fine addition to any collection. Up for sale is this vintage antique medical instrument. Known as a bleeder. It was used long ago for some type of alternative medical procedures. Is engraved with"KOLB" on the front. The case has a domed lid and a small hook and hoop to hold it closed, this is an original and very old piece, as you can see in the picture the box has wear and tear mostly from just age. In the 18th and 19th centuries the spring lancet was developed and received wide usage as late as the American Civil War. ... moreThese tools were easy to use because they had spring-loaded blades that made consistent cuts. Granny got in trouble! This is what I am selling not trying to decieve anyone. Others are on ebay and I was advised to"report" others. Well we have a farm and I have no time to watch what everyone else is doing, I have been reading and calling ebay rules, after 12 years of doing this I was shocked. Not sure still why it was removed, I believe that it is from the civil war era according to pictures of others. I am sure its before 1930 so thats where I put it, Granny tries hard, what I am selling is what you get, With my magnify glass, it looks like M& B with a line, under that is Moulson and under that looks like Brothers. it would make sense that it is M& B, although the first letter is the hardest to read. The case is brass, it opens and closes, original petina, I did not clean it. Now the other item with it is a pair of ... moretweezers, which you can read Royal on the other side is FDW Parkinson Mfg. Co Prov. RI they are rivited togather in the same way the bleeder is. it still has spring to it, the only thing is that it was scratched off to read the name, otherwise the petina is all great, not sure of the age of the tweezers, but both are medical and you are bidding on both pieces, Thanks for looking, if you have questions please ask, if you are an expert in this field I would love to hear what I have wrong. The spigot type valve is 3" long and 2 3/4" high and has a 5/8" male threaded end. The last one is 2 1/4" long and 2" high. This has 7/16" male ends. We do not know much about these items. Vintage fleam/bleeder brass with 3 blades A.T. Wood 1800'S
Brass case with three steel blades. The blades were placed against the vein of an animal. Probably a horse, and hit with a wooden mallet. The blade entered the jugular vein and was twisted, thus the shape, to"release bad humors" By the size of the blades it was most likely used on farm animals but could have been used on people. This came through my family and I assumed it was from a distant cousin who was a doctor but now realize that it was more likely handed down on the farming side of the family.

Antique Bloodletting Scarificator/ Bleeder/ Fleam T his stunning human scarificator or mechanical leech was used mostly in 19th century medicine for bleeding. Its constructed of a brass case with 12 steel blades. It also features a depth adjuster on the top as well as the lever that cocks the mechanism. On the side is the release button which allows the blades to swing and make mutiple cuts. The instrument measures approx.1.75 inches across. It is fully working and in good condition. And the blades are still sharp. This gruesome bloodletting instrument from the Georgian period should appeal to collectors of quality medical instruments.

Antique Barber Surgeon Bleeder Blood Letting Device Having One Fleam in Plain Brass Case In Wooden Case For Your Medical Instrument Collection Details Description: This is an early 19th century barber surgeon bloodletting or medical bleeder. The bleeder has on forged steel fleam contained in a brass plain case. The fleam or blade swivels on a brass pivot and can be triggered to penetrate the flesh via a cocking mechanism which is held back via a small metal holder that is released by pushing the external lever on top of the case. By releasing the trigger the fleam is pushed strongly forward. Very ingenious. The mechanism can be viewed by sliding the backing of the brass case out(see photos)The entire piece comes in a lined wooden box. Admittedly the box is the not the one originally housing this specific bleeder, but that is how they came ... moreand that is how we are selling them, as found. There is no doubt that the box, which has a a cloth lining, is for a similar bleeder but with a shorter trigger on top so that it would fit and allow the box to close. The brass case as well as the wood case are both undecorated. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain. Check out my! VERY RARE TO FIND IN THIS CONDITION. LOOK CLOSE AS THIS HAS A NICE FANCY FILE WORKED TRIGGER HANDLE. THE PIECE MEASURES 3 INCHES AND HAS A WORKING SPRING SUPER STRONG. THE FLEAM BLEEDER BLADE HAS BEEN SHARPENED OVER THE YEARS. GOOD 18TH CENTURY REV WAR PERIOD EXAMPLE. FITS IN WELL WITH OTHER EARLY MEDICAL ITEMS. Antique 19th. c Brass Multi-Blade Bleeder. Square solid brass case with steel blades. Case measures 1-1/4" tall x 1-5/8" long x 1-3/8" wide. Embossed on top"N HOFFMANN" Rare to be signed! Mechanism is hard to work. Prob. inside rust, but it works(see picture of extended blades) This a very old piece. Shipping to Continental US only. Folding blade fleam plus folding scalpel. The frame is solid brass and the blades are steel. There are no maker markings that I can find. The case is made to look like leather but is actually a pressed cardboard. It shows wear and has a hole at one corner. View all photos to see condition.
