Antique 1870's Dr. Charles H Fletcher Castoria Glass bottle Patent Medicine
1871- The Centaur Company is formed by Charles H. Fletcher at 80 Varick Street. New York, New York to manufacture Pitcher's Castoria after purchasing the rights and formula from Dr. Pitcher. It was renamed Fletcher's Castoria. He partnered with with Joseph B. Rose who had, in the same year, purchased forumla for Centaur Liniment. They had financial backing from Demas Barnes[he was later U.S. Congressman from New York 1867-1869] This is a Charles H Fletcher bottle from the 1870's measures 5.5" tall and 1" wide. This is a LIKE NEW looking antique. Light blue bottle, I do not wash, or clean bottles I auction, I leave that up to the buyer for its authenticity. There or no scrapes, chips or dings on this bottle, just the bubbles, lines, and obvious signs of hand blown glass. There is a picture of a Doctor giving a woman in 1920's dress a box of this product. Label has a stain where some of the liquid was spilled. It is 8-1/4 inches tall and 3-1/8 inches wide. NICE Antique Dr. Kennedy's Medical Discovery Bottle Quack Medicine Blue-Green I brought home a truck load of items from the auction last week. It was a farm estate. And I found some fabulous primitive antiques, as well as boxes and boxes of antique and vintage hardware that I will be listing for a long long time- someone clearly was a woodworker or dabbled in furniture creation or restoration. There’s something for everyone! O.K. I love me an old quack medicine bottle- the more bizarre the message the better, and this one will not disappoint. What I have here is an antique light blue/green colored bottle that advtertises what it used to hold, Dr. Kennedy's, on one side, Roxbury MASS, on the other, and, MEDICAL DISCOVERY, on the front of the bottle in relief letting. It's a molded glass bottle- the mold line seen at two adjacent ... morecorner edges going up the side of the bottle from the base, and stopping before it gets to the bulbous base. It measures 3 1/4" wide, 2" deep and 9 1/4" tall. It is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. The glass is thick, and there's bubbles, lines, and burps inside- anomolies original to the making. No chips or cracks that I can find at all. LOVE how thick the glass on the bottom is. It's dusty on the outside, and slightly hazy dirty on the inside- so could use a good cleaning, I have not cleaned it in any way- it's as found, and it will make a fabulous display piece or addition to your collection! The precise recipes for these medicines have not been found, but the company's purchasing book shows invoices for salad oil, licorice root, lobelia herb, turpentine, flour, guar gum, gum myrrh" nitrous ether, camphor, oil origanum" oil of red thyme) molasses, and alcohol. The product was distributed by the Dr. Scales Medicine Company of Kalamazoo. Michigan. This is a mid 1800's bottle made of crude. Whittled aqua glass. The side is embossed Dr. SS Fitch, Broadway NY. It has an early flared lip, measures 2 3/4" tall and 1 1/2" square. It is in excellent condition. Dr. Samuel Sheldon Fitch was a famous author. Lecturer, dentist and MD who had a patent medicine business on lower Broadway NY.

No real damage, except a tiny little 1/8" chip on the top lip, please look at pictures to see it, and to see how good a condition the bottle is in, also a very tiny spot about 1/8" on right bottom edge, also not noticeable on display. There is some interior stain which can probably be cleaned out of bottle. Even if not, it displays great. Otherwise in excellent shape. From Cincinnati, Ohio. This would be a nice one for your collection. The disease specific medicines are rare and are much harder to find medicines. I believe this Dr.Graydon's to be scarce or rare! The item up for auction is an antique medical bottle made circa 1900-1910. The front side of the bottle is embossed with lettering which reads: Dr. Baker's 5 Minute Cough Balsam 10c. It is clear glass with a very light blue/green tint[Aqua glass] The bottle measures 5 3/4 inches high. The base of the bottle measures 1 3/4 X 3/4 inch. The bottle is in good condition aside from a very small chip missing from the lip and minor soiling. It has a long bubble inclusion in the next and the lower right side of the front edge has slight indentation made during the firing process. Clear bottle is approx. 2 3/4 by 1 3/8 and 8 3/8 inches tall. The bottle is approx. 1/2 full. T he most famous of the patent-medicine wizards was Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce. Who operated the World's Dispensary. In the thirteen years between 1867 and 1880 his ventures took in almost half a million dollars per year. With the possible exception of William G. Fargo(of Wells Fargo fame) he was probably Buffalo's most renowned person. Biography: Dr. Pierce was born at Starke. New York, August 6th, 1840, and received his education in public schools. Afterwards he took up the study of medicine and in 1862 was graduated from The Eclectic Medical College, of Cincinnati. Subsequently he practiced medicine in Titusville, Pennsylvania, for four years, and in 1867 became a resident of Buffalo. You are bidding on a bottle of Swamp Root from S. ANDRAL KILMER M.D. It was manufactured by DR. KILMER& CO of Binghamton. N.Y. This bottle still has its original label. Bottle has never been opened and is still sealed. Comes in its original box which states to be A Diuretic To The Kidneys. Price 60 Cents. Box is in rough condition. Top of box is completely gone, but the graphics on the box are very clear. Bottle is in excellent condition. Cork top with no attached cork screw. Red plastic cover over cork top is cracked in half and will not stay in place. This bottle was also wrapped in a large paper certificate of purity that is printed in several languages. Paper cartificate wrap is very brittle and flaking apart. This item is very old, the less it is handled the better. I hated to remove the bottle from the box as the box and certificate ... moreare dry and brittle. Please see all photos. The liquid contents of these bottles were later discovered to sometimes be a very dangerous concoction of chemicals, said to cure many of the common ailments that were affecting the public of the late 1800's to early 1900's. ItWorks Hair Skin& Nails Supplement Antique Quack Medicine- 1914 in wooden bottle Description An antique bottle of Dr. James McGill's Famous Blood and Nerve Pills. This was a patent medicine that was listed in a Feb 28. 1914 register of medicines. Also listed in the 1916 edition of the Rocky Mountain Druggist(Denver) and the 1919 National Druggist. This is an interesting wooden bottle with a stamped ink label. I am assuming this was one of the earlier bottles. Before being sold nationally, because it was made in Chicago and the bottle was from an estate in Wisconsin. Plus it only has a stamped label rather than a paper label. The original paper packaging is included as well as a full page. Two sided, advertising flyer to complete the collection. I can envision the flyer, bottle and wrapper being mounted in a display frame. The advertising ... morehandout makes for interesting reading! I have not tried to open the cork stopper.
