Vintage Master Violet Ray Quack Antique Medical Device Shock Therapy -EC
Vintage example of early 1900's quack electroshock therapy device. We did turn on this device and when the lights were off the glass glowed purple. A little scary to use on your body since it started to cause my cell to go haywire. Box is in stressed condition with corners ripped. A typical violet ray device consisted of an ungrounded electrical control box that controlled the interrupter and which housed the magneto coil. And an attached bakelite or other handle housing which contained the high voltage coil and an insertion port for attachments. Chicago Ill. 2309-15 Archer Ave. If you are interested) There was also another company that made them, at the time called the Renulife electric company Detroit Michigan. Comes with original leatherette covered cardboard case with satin lining. A photocopy of the original paperwork( outlining how this is a supposed cure for everything from Rheumatism, headaches, insomnia, dandruff, ringworm, std's, gout, obesity. and the list goes on and on. The booklet also outlines all of the other wands, and their uses that were available at the time, and is amusing reading to say the least. This set includes 4 glass and 2 metal wand tips( 2 general electrodes. A comb rake electrode, a basic glass wand and two metal wants with points. This one was made by the Master Electric Co, the last makers of this type of machine, in the United States. After several lawsuits, the government seized all such machinery and banned the production and distribution of any further items within the US. They are still offered today, outside of the United States, and any available here now, like this one, remains from prior to the prohibition. This is an antique medical device from the 1920s. It is being sold as a collector's item only. Although it is a fully functioning device. The set includes the case, the wand, a glass round-head attachment, a metal attachment rod, and a 32 page RenuLife booklet that describes what ailments this would supposedly treat. The booklet also has a catalog of other attachments that were available for purchase, which is very interesting! Overall it is in pretty good shape. Given its age. The case has some wear and a rip on the back(see pictures) The attachments and wand are in working order. The booklet has writing on the back- looks like an address.
