Antique No 4 D.D. Home Medical Apparatus Quack medicine / machine What a Shock!
Up for auction here today is a no 4 D.D. Home medical apparatus. I bought this from a estate sale a few years back for a 100.00 and I am just trying to recoup some of my money. It is missing quite a few different things to actually be considered complete. What it comes with is pictured in the above photographs. And what it is missing is outlined in the condition description. If you are missing a few parts to make yours complete. Or are looking for a box that is in decent shape then this could be the item for you. A couple of good points to mention about this apparatus are as follows: The label is in pretty good legible condition which is more then I can say for some of the other machines I have seen on ebay that have sold. The hinges are in good shape also with no broken flathead screws. The box is intact very well with only a minor knick ... moreon one of the corners The whole idea behind this machine is it is supposed to send electical pulses thruout your fingers and body to help in the cure of ailments and conditions. I do not have all the different parts however so I can not tell you if it is working. Late 1800s antique quack medical apparatus made by J.H. Bunnell& Company. Instruction plate titles the device"The New No. 4 D.D. Home Medical Apparatus" Contained in a honey colored oak box. Brass and metal hardware is all original. Box was stripped and refinished with MinWax satin varnish and buffed out with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. Instruction label was badly damaged. But photographed before it was removed. A quality color inkjet print of the instructions will be included with purchase. Some parts are missing, including the wiring, the metal tube that held the battery, metal foot plate, and the sponges that were included with the electrodes. This is not our field of expertise so I do not know whether all the parts are there and we have not tried to see if it works. Offered as found as is. I believe it dates from the late Victorian era. This listing is for a wonderful antique quack-medical electroshock device from the late 1800's. The No. 4 D.D. Home medical Apparatus produced by J.H. Bunnell&Co. Is complete with the exception of its guidebook, the battery(which would long since be ruined) and the connecting wires(which also often corroded away) Included are the device itself as well as all of its attachement instruments. 2 insulating wood handles, 2 metallic tube hand electrodes, 2 improved sponge electrodes, and 1 foot plate electrode. These are all housed neatly in an over and under latching oak carry case. This is a fantastic piece of early medical history. It is very rare to find one with all complete hardware. The condition of the piece is remarkable for its age. There is some corrosion likely from when the original battery began to degrade, but it appears ... morethat it would likely clean up fairly well. The exterior oak case is very clean, the wiring you see exposed in the bottom of the case was standard to this variety of device and is not an alteration. The sponges have dried with age and are quite brittle. Otherwise this piece is really a fantastic item. This would make a wonderful Halloween prop! This is a stunningly rare antique New No. 6 Home Medical Apparatus shock therapy quack machine. It is a device from the late 19th century that was used to heal many ailments and diseases by using electric at schlock therapy. there are two handles that would hook up to the mother board and would shock you at different intensities. the box is beautifully crafted by hand. Nicely dovetailed, and has great high quality hardware. the motherboard locks into place with a hook on the storage compartment side and can be removed to expose the underside. the pieces all come apart to store in the side compartment. it has directions printed on the backside of the hinged lid. the box measures 9 by 8 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches tall. Antique Home Quack Medical Kit Device Shock Therapy
I was cleaning out my parent's home and found what I have discovered is a quack medicine device. The thing on the front is a buzzer coil. You hold on to the two metal probes. You would get shocked. The makers claimed it would cure anything that was wrong with you. There is a date of 1941 stamped on the box and there was a Patent dated Aug 18. 1886. One person wrote and said that this unit is probably from around 1910. It has a fairly heavy Eveready No. 6 battery which I assume is dead now. It has two metal cones(only one is shown in the picture) but one is missing the handle. The buyer pays all shipping/handling costs. But from what I can tell it’s missing the 2 conducting cords, 1 sponge electrode, and I think the battery. It also includes the original 4 page pamphlet showing the device and the“Electropathic Guide” by S. M. Wells. Medical Electrician, 18 th edition. It is 96 pages of some hilarious reading. Antique- No. 4 Home Medical Apparatus. Set is missing electrodes and some parts but box is in great condition and will make a great conversation piece! Top of box opens to reveal some type of shock therapy metal wand. Beneath that(inside lower lock) appears to be the battery in nice shiny chrome that creates the"shock" for the therapy. Antique 1902 Electropathic "Home Medical Apparatus" in Solid Oak Box+Accessories
Beautifully refinished quack medical device originally sold by J.H. Bunnell& Company. 20 Park Place, New York. Used to practice Electropathic Medicine in the early 1900s. Coil is marked with a patent date of December 30, 1902. Some of the original accessories remain. There are 4 pins that had the wiring attached to them and would plug into the device and hand held pieces. The two screws on the inside of the lid originally held the grounding plate. Box is constructed of 3/8" thick solid oak and sides are assembled using the barefaced housing joint for strength. Box measures 8 1/8" long x 6" deep x 5 1/2" tall. Battery was placed in the bottom— it appears to have held 2 of them. Box was refinished with several coats of MinWax Satin Varnish and hand polished to a soft luster with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. Metal hardware ... morewas polished. I have had several of these boxes in my collection and will include a color copy of the instructions that was with one of them. Wiring is accessible by removing 4 screws. I'm fairly certain that his device no longer works. But it's sure to be a great conversation piece. Some of the accessories have been lost over the years. Shipping weight 5 pounds. No reserve!
