FORVM Roman Millefiori Mosaic Glass Fragment Late 1st c BC - Early 1st c AD.
Roman(Probably Italian) 1' Millefiori Mosaic Glass Vessel Fragment, Late 1st Century B.C. Early 1st Century A.D. Antiquities authenticated and attributed by Alex G. Malloy. From the collection of Alex G. Malloy. Former dealer in antiquities for 40 years. The mosaic glass making technique is a painstaking labor intensive process. Long colored glass rods(canes) are arranged and bundled to form the desired cross-section pattern. The rods are fused with heat and pulled to reduce the diameter and shrink the pattern to a smaller scale. The fused and pulled canes of glass are then cut into wafers. Each piece bearing the original cross-section pattern in miniature. The wafers are then fused together to form the millefiori(thousand flowers) pattern vessel. AA32383. Please ask any questions before bidding. And thank you for looking. If you have time please check my other Auctions. I will be happy to combine items when possible. Any Vintage: items I list belong to me. I’ve been collecting for 40 years. Being Vintage. I will list them as such and I will do my very best to provide any information I have about the item. I will also point out flaws, damage, or what I feel could be an issue. Everyone’s feelings about an“issue” are different, so please ask anything you may have as a concern or question about. When I list Vintage Jewelry: items and say that they are stamped or Hallmarked. Refers to the stamp somewhere on the jewelry and I show a picture. I have not questioned the stamps, or had them professionally tested, unless I say I have in the auction description. I have been collecting Beads: for the last ... more11 years from reputable gemstone dealers and now do make some jewelry for sale. Which is new. I will describe the beads and gemstones in the the descriptions using some of the information I received with my purchase from the original dealers along with my own. Pictures: When I take the pictures I use natural lighting as much as possible. I try to show the jewelry and gemstones with other things of color for accurate comparisons. eBay suggests White backgrounds. But as you can see from some pictures with plain backgrounds it actually changes the color of the item. I also use a flash once in awhile. The items being small and closeup tend to washout with a flash. Please read my complete Descriptions, Payment, Shipping, and Return information below. In Egypt it was commonly applied on jars and in Palestine it was commonly applied on both jars and kohl tubes. In the Ernesto Wolf Collection. Roman Glass is an ancient glass. Discovered in archaeological excavation sites in Israel. Israel is one of the few locations in the world in which a series of geological ... moreand climatic phenomena coincide enabling the formation and preservation of the strikingly colorful glass. Made from the hand-blown fragments of ancient perfume pots. Lamps, flasks, vases, cups, and bowls dating back to 100 BC found by archaeologists sifting through the fallen pillars and once magnificent cities of the Roman Empire. Almost two thousand years of conflict with mineral rich soil and oxidation combine to form this precious glass. A special characteristic of ancient glass is its irradescence and luster which only the passing of time can bestow upon it. Further enhancing it's original beauty. Treatment: we recommend that you do not wet with any liquid. This may ruin the natural process of the irradescence. The fine Sterling Silver Roman Glass Jewelry is one of the most popular types and styles originated from Israel. Ancient Roman Very Large Silver Alloy Ring with Deep Red Glass Inlay 100-300 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring This large and handsome ancient Roman silver alloy ring has a broad and smooth all over hoop. Which opens up into two parts at the shoulders, and soldered firm to the back of its bezel. As additional reinforcement, the ancient craftsman has added a flat, arrow-tipped piece of silver alloy strip

Vintage Modernist SS & Roman Glass Money Clip, Sgd S. ZILKA; Israeli; NR
I love the juxtaposition of ancient Roman glass with modernist design; the fact that they fit together so well is simply satisfying. The clip is 2 7/16" long, 7/8" wide, and the glass inset is 3/4" x 13/16" The glass is set in a silver bezel that's 1/8" high. The sterling silver is thick and has a lovely gleam to it. largest 24 IN. attributed ROMAN HELMET leaded glass SHADE & BRONZE BASE
SELLING MY TIFFANY GLASS& LAMP COLLECTION OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS-SO KEEP AN EYE OUT! This original. Antique(c. 1902) 24 1/2 in. ROMAN HELMET LEADED GLASS SHADE& LAMP has a metal stamped mark on the shade rim: TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1564-7" see pics) THE BLEND OF COLORS IN THIS SHADE ARE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! The reason that it is offered as a"ATTRIBUTION" and. Hence, the low price) is the fact that the top 6 rows of matched yellow/orange glass pieces are HORIZONTALLY rather than VERTICALLY oriented(as in all of the photos that of Tiffany Roman"COLONIAL FLARING" GEOMETRIC shaded lamps that I can find. Perhaps this is explained by the stamped shade number with the"7" suffix, indicative of a special production of this shade variation. Perhaps it is indicative of an old restoration. Perhaps even a ... morereproduction. I WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THAT UP TO YOU EBAYERS. A manifestation of its 100 yr. + age are the 19 stable. Heat cracks found in the shade. The bronze finial and acorn pulls are definite Tiffany as is the tall bronze lamp base marked on bottom: TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK D808" See a shorter 24 in.version D803 in CHRISTIE'S CATALOG. Dec. 2009, p. 47 and Alastair Duncan's TIFFANY AT AUCTION, p. 94, 253) Also, the use of mottled glass, polychromatic, and monochromatic glass plaques bespeaks Tiffany/ CONDITION: Overall VERY FINE. The array of perfectly matched colored glass(with the predominance of orange. Yellow and red plus green swirled glass at the bottom) is simply BREATH-TAKING! Mentioned above are the heat cracks. One acorn pull has been replaced with an old round pull. Modern rewiring; and the lamp functions perfectly except for one socket that does not work. MEASUREMENTS: SHADE 24 1/2 IN. DIAM.
