Throughout their history. Egyptians adorned the walls of their tomb chapels with paintings or reliefs. Subjects included scenes of daily life, such as agricultural activities, craftsmen at work, hunting, banquets, and activities intended to sustain the deceased for eternity. More unusual are astronomical depictions of the heavens, showing a configuration of the stars. The Metropolitan Museum conducted excavations in Egypt from 1907 through 1936 and during these period artists from the Graphics section made scale reproductions of the paintings in the tombs of officials. Rendered in Tempura to approximate the appearance of ancient pigments. The facsimiles provide a valuable record of these fragile paintings. The facsimile of the astronomical ceiling comes from the tom of Senenmut at Deir el Bahri in Thebes, located beneath the lower courtyard of the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Estate MMA / Metropolitan Museum Of Art Rhinestone Scarab Earrings! 14K Posts!
Very nice estate find from the Metropolitan Museum of Art probally from the early to mid 1970's. They are a pair of antique revival detailed goldtone scarab beetle pierced earrings with clear clean sparkling rhinestone accents. According to the info card the earrings have 14K posts. I have checked the posts and they are hallmarked 585 for 14K. They have butterfly clutches. They are hallmarked MMA/ MAd(yes. Exactly that way) on the back of each earring. They don't appear to have ever been worn, they are in pristine condition. The romance/ info card says the earrings are based on an original design by the House of Robin French, 19th century. The Museum's scarab jewelry is electroplated with 24 karat gold, lightly antiqued, and set with rhinestones. They are absolutely stunning! Again, for pierced ears with posts and butterfly push ... moreon backings. The posts are 14K. They measure 7/8" long and 5/8" across.

Out of THE ARCHIVES and up for bid is a pre-owned pair of cast Egyptian inspired reproduction plaques from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. MMA, depicting the Egyptian queen NEFERITITI and the ram's head god KHNUM that are in excellent condition. The plaques are cast to resemble ancient artifacts and appear to be made out of some kind of plaster or stone based mixture. Nicks and chips are part of the original casting design. Both plaques have hangers on the back and are ready to be hung. A small metal plate that looks like brass marked the Metropolian Museum Of Art is pressed into the back of each plaque. In 1870. When Peter Carl Faberge was only twenty-four years old, he took over his father's jewelry business in St. Petersburg, Russia. He cultivated the patronage of the last two Czars of the Romanov dynasty. Delightful miniature eggs were created by his studios to be worn as charms or pendants. The Metropolitan Museum's pendant is based on one of these miniature eggs. It is in sterling silver, plated in 24k gold and crafted with enamel and austiran crystals. This pendant is 1/2" long and the chain is 18" long.

RARE LOVELY CHALLIS 1840 SOFT CHALLIS PAISLEY SHAWL FROM MET MUSEUM NYC This paisley shawl was made around 1840(very possibly earlier) in France of soft challis wool. It was de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Art Museum Costume Department. It was beautifully cared for there. It's small size of 38 1/2 inches square and large rococo block printed design indicates an early date. The lattice design with roundels of flowers refer to a chinoiserie pattern favored in the very early 1800s. It is a lovely cream challis shawl. With glorious and bright colors. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch, made from light but substantial wool. Not all shawls are equal! This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Printed and woven very beautifully. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine color of this shawl makes it unusually ... morebeautiful quality. The colors are blue. Pink. Red. Green. White. Cream, yellow. The last photo shows the reverse of the shawl. It is very clean and has no smells and is very soft to the touch. There are no mends or stains. The color is unfaded. There are a few moth bites. But not many. The shawl is in stable, strong condition. The colors are brilliant and glorious. The design is unique and fascinating. I have expertise in textiles. Especially Indian and European shawls. This is a beautiful treasure from the best Museum collection of textiles in the US. The Met and Brooklyn Museums have integrated their collections.
