The plate/plaque measures 12" It displays a quaint scene of Colonial Era gentlemen conversing outside of an inn. The front of the plate reads"Ye Lion Inn" The back of the plate has the normal maker's mark; Made At Ye Buffalo Pottery. 1908, Deldare Ware Underglaze" It is artist signed. I found this treasure during my first trip to the D.C. Big Flea. The largest antique market in the Mid-Atlantic, held bi-monthly at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia(I guess this is an unintentional plug for this event: but if you're ever in the area is it worth checking out) I have been looking for this Deldare Ware for quite some time since being introduced ... moreto it at a friend's B&B. Only one booth at the market had it! I am keeping the two smaller plates I purchased, but I have discovered I really don't have anywhere in my townhouse to display this charger. So off to auction it goes! This piece is in very nice condition. With no chips, cracks or crazing. When I saw it on display at the market, it was just gleaming. The finish still has it's full luster. It has some very light, hairline scratches, commensurate with age, which can only be seen when plate is turned at an angle with bright light hitting it(they cannot be seen head on)does not affect display. There are some glaze bumps and a glaze dent that happened during manufacturing(I tried to capture these in as many photos as ebay will allow) I see no crazing on this piece. It's in wonderful condition. And there are already holes drilled in the back to make for a great wall display(there is glaze inside these holes so I assume this was done during manufacturing) I saw where Book Value is $495.00. A picture of this Calling Card Tray can be found on page 103 of the Altman Book of Buffalo Pottery. This piece is in Very Good condition. I don’t think it was used for calling cards though. A thorough inspection reveals scattered small utensil marks. The close-up of the brown square on the floor shows the spot with the largest concentration of marks. I am betting that this was used for butter. Or something. When held at arm’s length. You really can’t see the marks. There is very light crazing in some areas. There are no chips or cracks. SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE* Antique Cast Bronze Thai Singha Lion Thailand Sculpture Figure 11 inches tall This is not one of the new reproductions! The Singha is a mystical lion found in ancient Hindu and Thai stories. This figure was made in the lost wax method of cast bronze and was purchased in Thailand in the 1950s by the previous owner. It weighs about 5 lbs and is about 11 1/8 inches tall. 5 1/2 inches wide and 6 1/2 inches deep. It has a great, rich patina in browns, greens, blackish and has some areas that have built up surface dirt, etc. that should not be cleaned off since it’s all part of the patina and would ruin the piece. The only cleaning it has received is a careful dusting with a rag and very soft brush to remove loose dirt. It’s of typical hollow construction and is partially filled with what appears to be some ... moretype of blackish wax or soft natural resin. Which can be seen in a couple spots on the sides of the two back feet where there is some loss to the bronze, revealing the inside resin(see photos below…there are lots of photos! Some of this internal material is loose and it rattles around inside and if you shake the figure upside down, a light dust of the material or dirt will come out of the mouth. There are also some very small holes on one of the back legs that are a result of the manufacturing process(see photos) The best way to describe this wonderful piece is with lots of photos. So please look carefully at all the images at the bottom of this page to see the item’s condition and take note of any holes, etc. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer! It is cast in the form of a standing lion with his tail at his right back paw. The lion. Which is made of cast iron is painted in various tones of brown starting a yellowish brown to dark brown with black highlights. The lion's nose and eyes are black and his mouth is red. The bank shows beautiful details in the lion's mane, mouth, and eyes. The bank is made of two halves held together with a screw. We believe the screw is original to the piece. We have opened the bank and found the number 2 stamped on one half and the number 6 stamped on the other half. The bank has the coin slot on top of the lion's head. A neat pair of antique sewing scissors or desk shears. The scissors are made of steel and feature a decoration of the Lion of Lucerne on one side and a Soldier and boy on the other. This listing is for four old copper and brass buttons. The basketweave one is 18 mm. And copper. It has no post. The octagon button is copper and measures 15 mm. The smaller hand chased one is brass or bronze with a nice geometric weave pattern, it had an iron post that rusted away. The large one is as-dug with the back no longer crimped to the front. This very unusual strainer has eight elevated sides. Measures 8"20.3 cm) in diameter, is 3 3/4"9.5 cm) deep and has three 1 1/4"3.2 cm) high lion paw feet. This piece is in lovely condition with no chips, cracks, breaks or hairlines. The black transfer Mark on the bottom is the Sphinx and reads"P. Regout& Co.Maastricht" The company started in 1836, then when the father died, his sons took over in 1878, when they started using this mark. This piece is porcelain and the style and shape would date this to some time between 1878 and 1890. It has a single diamond shaped perforation in the center that is surrounded by heart-shaped and leaf shaped perforations. There are also, evenly spaced, at four of the 8 corners, a single heart shaped perforation with a leaf perforation on either side. But what really makes this ... morepiece though, are the three large lion paw feet the bowl rests on. I've never seen anything quite like it before. FINE OLD ANTIQUE 18TH CENTURY VIOLIN OF THE EBERLE SCHOOL CIRCA 1760, LION HEAD.
Extraordinary antique 18th century of the Eberle School made circa 1760. Fine master violin of the Eberle School made circa 1750. Ornated with a fantastic lion head. The violin was made after a Stainer elevated pattern, and shows master workmanship. The back, of a single piece of spectacular maple, is absolutely gorgeous. The lion head is a pure beauty, and has nothing to do with the average 19th century ones we can often find. The carving is superb, and has a strong personality. The varnish is of a rich red-brown colour on a golden ground. The violin is in a restored condition. With many restored cracks on front, including a soundpost one which has been patched. The head has been grafted on a new neck, and shows pegs bushings. The violin is set-up with rosewood ans bone fittings, a Despiau bridge, Thomastik Dominant strings, and is ready ... moreto play. On the inside back can be found a label of"Joannes Udalricus Eberle fecit Pragae 1767" and another restorer's label. The violin has a wonderful deep mature sound. Very baroque as expected, warm, and will allow you a lot of sensitivity in your play. An extraordinary 18th century golden sound for this rare and beautiful instrument, suitable for concertists, teachers, and collectors. Fully insured shipping to EC $50, and to USA $90.
