Fabulous silver against black high relief image of this very famous English war ship from the 17th century. Sits against a vintage leatherette background. Measures 11.5ins x 9.5ins. The detail is remarkable and replicates the very decorative work that this ship is known for. There is a man on horseback at the front of the ship. More pictures on request. One peice of silver'rigging' is missing and the plaque is generally in good condition. Well worth cleaning up and displaying just as it is.

CHINESE WHITE GLAZED CHILONG DRAGON VASE CHING DYNASTY. PROB. 17th CENTURY
96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This superbly executed bulb-headed vase most probably dates to the 17 th century. A finely-formed chilong. An archaic dragon-like mythical creature, is depicted“climbing up” the neck of the vase which rises from a globular body set over a recessed base. The entire vase is covered with a visually-appealing, finely-crackled milky-white glaze, except for the edge of the footring. There is an old repair to the left leg of the chilong and a few small patches of old oily residue in recessed areas under the creature. It could be cleaned. If desired. This exquisite piece, which offers both a visual treat as well as a tactile experience, probably graced the desk of a Chinese scholar. Dimensions: H = 5-1/8 inches. 17th & 18th CENTURY HOUSEHOLD GOODS IN SUFFOLK COUNTY MASSACHUSETTS -INVENTORIES
Rural Household Inventories. Establishing the Names. Uses and Furnishings of Rooms in the Colonial New England Home, 1675-1775” Edited by Abbott Lowell Cummings. Published in Boston by the Society for Preservation of New England Antiquities in 1964. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: A very interesting study of 109 period inventories from Suffolk County. Massachusetts. Suffolk County was larger then than it is now, and many of the towns included here are no longer part of the county. Then as now its most significant city is Boston, but the researchers decided to exclude Boston from the survey because of the city bias it would have introduced into the result, and because, proportionately, a much higher percentage of period dwellings survive to the present day in the suburbs of the city than in the city itself. Having decided ... moreon the parameters of the study, the researchers painstakingly copied the trove of surviving wills, bonds, accounts and inventories still extant in the Suffolk County Registry of Probate, and"translated" them from 17th and 18th century English(and punctuation) to 20th century English. A valuable compilation that has helped to draw attention to the inventory as a way of providing insight into the domestic life of the past" Ames& Ward) DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7"x10" 306 pages, some black& white illustrations. 17th 18th CENTURY IRISH HOUSES ESTATES GARDENS ANTIQUES ART FURNITURE & More!
Making the Grand Figure. Lives and Possessions in Ireland. 1641-1770” By Toby Barnard. Published in New Haven by the Yale University Press in 2004. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: In this pioneering study of the material culture of Stuart and Hanoverian Ireland. Toby Barnard reveals a hitherto unsuspected richness and diversity of lifestyle, habitat and mentality. The compass of the book is impressively wide, from the governing elite of Dublin Castle to provincial towns and the countryside beyond. Looking yet further, it follows the Irish overseas to Britain and the continent of Europe. Genuine & Rare 17th Century English Portrait In Miniature!
You are bidding on a authentic mid-17th century English school miniature portrait. Oil on card portraying a man in breastplate wearing a rectangular linen falling collar reflecting the rather austere uniform of many Parliamentary& Puritan officers of the period. The painting is about 2" high and 1.6" wide(framed 3.6" high/ 3" wide) Bearing all the earmarks of portrait miniatures of the mid-1600's, and is reminiscent of the works of famed English miniaturist Samuel Cooper. The face leaps out from the painting and is perfectly highlighted by the dark brown cascading hair and blue background. I generally collect 17th century military antiques, and the military& English Civil War theme of this miniature made it a welcome part of my collection. It is an absolutely genuine 17th century portrait from a dramatic& ... morehistorical time in English history. Posted with

This is an Iranian 1A silver. It is a bit circulated with even wear and no traumas. NGC would not encapsulat the coin stating that the date was illegible. Heritage stated that the date was AH 1038-52 or AD 1629-42. The coin is 7.63 g. And 20mm. Heritage says the date is either 1042, 1043, or 1044. If you are a scholar of this era and area perhaps you can determine the exact date. At any rate, I claim it is genuine based on Heritage statement.

17th/18th CENTURY EGYPTIAN/ETHIOPIC COPTIC PARCHMENT SCROLL VERY RARE AUTHENTIC
Please be sure to have a look at our other auctions. We have a 9ct gold sovereign holder with an engraved stag. A 1930's filmo projector boxed and a rare edition of treasure island by Robert louis stevenson. plus many more items. This wonderful and very rare authentic Egyptian/Ethiopic Coptic parchment scroll was initially dated from the 1800's but it is suggested it dates back to a much earlier era. This parchment scroll has a neatly executed Coptic text and is written in black and red ink. Colours of the Egyptian/Ethiopic manuscripts were very limited to only black and red ink. Much later other colours were used usually violet. Some manuscripts were written on strips of parchment then tied into a scroll which is exactly like the one in our photographs, there is a drawing at the very top of the scroll that suggests it is religious, ... morei have taken a close up picture for you to see. The text on scrolls usually contained general prayers and also charms to seek aid for a specific ailment or problem. Parchment was very expensive as it was made using animal hide, a long drawn out process was used to make the parchment and it was only used by wealthy and important people for writing important documents or for religious reasons"a bible" This particular scroll used to be the property of a London collector and was acquired in the 1970's The reason why this scroll is unique is because it was made for a person with a specific requirement. The length of the scroll was designed to be the same length as the person who wanted the scroll for prayer or ailment purposes. There has been some questioning with this scroll where some people are assuming it is only worth £30? It was purchased for much much more and I have listed it to provide someone with a wonderful piece of history as these kind of scrolls were indeed one of a kind.please do not mistake this coptic nubian"real animal" parchment scroll for a chinese multi manufactured copy.it is not. ALL OUR ITEMS ARE AUTHENTIC AND ARE CHECKED.THE ITE

Bronze Asian 17th century BC, Shang Dynasty, Ingrave sword
Bronze Age swords appear from around the 17th century BC. In the Black Sea region and the Aegean, evolving out of the dagger. They are replaced by the Iron Age sword during the early part of the 1st millennium BC. From an early time the swords reach lengths in excess of 100 cm. The technology to produce blades of such lengths apperas to have been developed in the Aegean. Using alloys of copper and tin or arsenic, around 1700 BC. Typical Bronze Age swords had lengths of roughly between 60 and 80 cm, while weapons significantly shorter than 60 cm also continued to be made, but are variously categorized as"short swords" or as daggers. Before 1400 BC or so, swords remain mostly limited to the Aegean and southeastern Europe, but they become more widespread in the final centuries of the 2nd millennium, to Central Europe and Britain, to ... morethe Near East, Central Asia, Northern India and to China. Sword production in China is attested from the Bronze Age Shang Dynasty. From roughly 1200 BC. The technology for bronze swords reached its highpoint during the Warring States period and Qin Dynasty(221 BC– 207 BC) Amongst the Warring States period swords, some unique technologies were used, such as casting high tin edges over softer, lower tin cores, or the application of diamond shaped patterns on the blade(see the sword of Gou Jian) Also unique for Chinese bronzes is the consistent use of high tin bronze(17-21% tin) which is very hard and breaks if stressed too far, whereas other cultures preferred lower tin bronze(usually 10% which bends if stressed too far. Although iron swords were made alongside bronze, it wasn't until the early Han Dynasty that iron completely replaced bronze, making China the last place where bronze was used in swords. I beleave this sword to be from the 17th century. It is very old and solid bronze. There are ancient characters Engraved in the swords blade and sleeve. The sword has turned green with its age. This sword is 15.9 pounds and about 3 feet long

17th Century Embroidery and Metallic Applique on Velvet
This antique velvet textile measures 45 by 8 1/2 inches or 115 by 21.5 cm It consists of velvet and metallic appliques sewn on to a wine colored velvet ground with couched thread edging. It is backed with a rather coarse open weave linen. The textile i s quite early- I have conservatively listed it as seventeenth century but I believe that it is actually 16th century- the design and colors are consistent with that period Condition is really very good for an embroidery of this age. Minor discoloration- Significant losses to the pile on the velvet The fabric is sound and without rot and the colors remain vibrant and strong Please examine photos closely- let me know if you need more images

Antique Sword Belt Polish Hungarian Poland Hungary 17th century
Search Antique Sword Belt Hungarian Polish Poland Hungary 17th An exceptional antique 17th century Hungarian- Polish Nobleman's sword belt made in the characteristic Transylvanian manner of belts produced in Hermannstadt-Nagyszeben present-day Romanian city Sibiu. Which was an important center for the production of weapons and military equipment, not only for Hungary, but also for Central and Eastern Europe. Many of these types of Transylvanian belts were exported to the Kingdom of Poland due to the fact that the costumes and weapons of Hungarian Nobleman were similar to the Polish Nobleman's, and since the belts from Transylvania were very expensive, these types of belts were frequently copied by Polish craftsmen, so sometimes it is difficult to determine if a belt is an actual Transylvanian product, or made in Poland, but in the ... moreTransylvanian style. Some of the belts have been described in Polish museums as Hungarian-Transylvanian, or Polish made in the Transylvanian style. In the Ukrainian museums in Lwow these types of belts are described as Ukrainian belts. DETAILS: The front of the belt is faced by a dark brown velvet. Bordered by woven rope, fitted with a loop for suspension, and bejeweled by ten domed rosette bosses, made of several elements of gold gilded brass, adorned with settings of pewter beads. The terminals are each fitted with large gild brass buckles ornate with repousse and chiseled with baroque ornaments and flowers, fitted at the ends with a serpent head hook on one side and a loop for the chain for closure on the other(the chain is missing) The back of the belt is finished with a heavy canvas woven with straps. Some of these types of Transylvanian style belts were continued to be made up until the 19th century. This particular belt is a rare 17th century example. REFERENCES: 1. Five examples of these rare belts are in the collection of the Museum national in Krakow- Please see the attached pictures. Also two very similar belts have been presented at the exhibition-Pasja Zbjerania Kol

Great Early SILVER PEASANT BUTTON/FOB c. 17th - 18th Century
Click Here. Double your traffic. Get Vendio Gallery- Now FREE! I purchased this decades ago from a very reputable New York Button dealer as a centuries old Peasant button. While I have no basis for disagreeing. It would have had to be used on very coarse, thick fabric. I tend to think it could have also been a fob of some type. Will let the new owner decide what it's use was(or perhaps someone knows if it was indeed a fob) It is stunningly done none the less. A large ball of had set silver beads and coiled wire attached to a long spear tipped heavy silver wire with a large loop on the other end. It measures 1 3/4" end to end. The ball measures over 1/2" in diameter. It is quite heavy for such a small item, weighing 7 grams. It has not been cleaned. I will leave the decision whether or not to remove the patina to the new owner. ... moreIf you know more about it's history and use please let me know just for information's sake. Interesting 16th/17th century Italian silver coin ~ good detail
Interesting 16th/17th century Italian silver coin. As it is holed it may since have been used as a medallion. The coin has the look and feel of being hammered but I do not state that definitively. The obverse seems to have the image of Christ with a child. However. The child appears to have a halo above the head indicating a divine status so this is quite unusual. Latin wording around the edge. The reverse has a shield with a Coat of Arms including the word"Liber" I understand this translates from the Italian/Latin for"Free" Besides"Liber" the shield shows a cross with 3 stars above. There is also the clearly visible word"DOCET" but I do not know what this means. Very good detail as shown. If anyone recognises this coin and can provide more specific information please contact me.
