Carlo Perantoni and his two sons. Victor and Luigi, operated a successful import-export business of fine Italian wines. The export business was anchored in Carlo’s native town Volargne di Dolce’ in Valpolicella North Italy, and the import business was anchored in the city of Lwow Poland(Lviv Ukraine, today) the city where Victor and Luigi were born. 17th century Spanish Colonial Tooled Leather Coffer Trunk Chest
This stunning 17th century tooled leather Spanish Colonial coffer retains its original hardware and patterned linen lining. The mark of an old cattle brand is clearly visible in the leather on the back of the trunk. it would be great to find a way to trace this brand to the hacienda from which the herd came. The carved claw feet belong to the trunk but are two separate pieces, and serve to keep the trunk up off the floor. While very old, they may have been made for the chest sometime after its completion. Many of the hand forged nails remain but some are missing. The leather is missing in the upper right front corner of the trunk. As can be seen in the first photo, above. Piece is very sturdy and condition overall is excellent. No odors. Dimensions are 34"x 15" x 19" without feet. As with all of my auctions. 1950s miniature replicas of 17th century globes
The Christmas cards sent out by Rand McNally to friends and clients of the great mapmaking firm were legendary. And widely collected. One year, around 1952, the company sent out a card bearing a facsimile of the globe gores for terrestrial and celestial globes of 1610. Someone had the idea, a year later, to take the unused cards, cut the gores apart, and assemble them into small globes. This was the result: brightly colored globes with a solid core, about four inches tall. A Bakelite caster cup was found that perfectly fit the little globes, and the globes and casters were wrapped in paper and enclosed in a red box for presentation to special guests. This is one of those sets, never used, fresh in its wrappings from nearly sixty years ago. Purchaser pays $5 no frills shipping and handling within US, more for international or insurance
Superb Persian Quran Text, Late 17th Century,
Coins and Antiques Gallery The Quran. Literally meaning The Recitation, is the central and holy text of 1.2 billion Muslims all around the world which is believed to be word of god and regarded as the miracle of Mohamed and proof of his prophethood. Quran is widely regarded the finest book of literature in the Arabic language. It is composed of different"suras" regarded as Maccan or Medinan depending on place of their revelations by angel Gabriel over period of 23 years. The fist sura was revealed to Mohammad at the age of 40, at 610 AD concluding at his time of death at the age of 63. Proceeding Mohamed's death, different Quran were compiled into a single book by order of first Calif Abu Bakr. The present form of the text is accepted by most scholars as the the one compiled by Abu Bakr. Over the centuries it has been the source ... moreof inspiration by the artists and calligraphers, all trying to exhibit their talent by writing and decorating this amazing book. This exceptional Quran according the calligraphy expert is from Shah Sultan Husayn(1694–1722) era. Since it also includes Persian translation, the text has a very large volume consisting of 592 gilded leaves. Both hand made gilded lacquered covers, with floral design and along with the first 15 pages, are a later addition from mid Quajar period, covers themselves are pieces of art with first and last four pages heavily decorated and the rest of the text's pages, also gilded and decorated, are written with finest calligraphy I have ever come across with. In addition, it comes with a custom made metal box decorated with silver and gold Quranic verses from city of Isfahan, believed to be from mid twenty century. Size: This incredible text measures 5 1/4" x 3" x 2 1/4" and fits the domed shape metal box. Condition Report: Due to extremely fine workmanship of the text, we believe that it should have belonged to member of royalty or a major aristocrat of the period, again due to old age of this text, the covers and first 15 pages are fr

It is covered overall with a very subtle and dark patina. It has a softness of detail that only comes from hundreds of years of handling. It also has a few cracks and slight losses to it's surface that do not detract from it's overall appearance. It dates to a period ranging from the 16th through the 17th centuries in China. 17th Century Gunter Quadrant
Antique Gunter Quadrant On offer is this rare“Gunter Quadrant” made of boxwood. In very good condition, with inscriptions dating from the second half of the 17 th century. Its scales. Curves and lettering closely follow the original description by Edmund Gunter, published in his 1624 book“Use of the Sector, Crosse-Staffe, and Other Instruments” The Gunter Quadrant was one of the“Other Instruments” with a drawing on page 188(see one of the attached pictures) Size of the quadrant is 112 mm radius and 10 mm thick. Weight is 102 g. The object is complete. Including the two sights, plumb line, bob and bead. There are few blemishes, only a dark stain near the first sight(bottom right) and some millimeter-sized or smaller wood chips. The ink on lines and lettering has faded a bit over time. The sights and the plumb line appear original, as the wooden ... morebase itself. The photographs and scans of the quadrant depict the actual object. This quadrant was initially acquired by the last owner some years ago from a Utrecht antiquarian. Who had no information about its provenance and then subsequently by me. The quadrant bears no signature and no explicit date. Even the latitude for which the instrument was designed(determining some curves in the stereographic projection of the sky) is not inscribed. Most of the known Gunter quadrants were made in England for latitude 51º 30´(London) Although versions for other latitudes are also known. The scales on our quadrant are consistent with the London latitude. Another indication of the British origin is given by the English abbreviations of five stars inscribed in the shadow square: Pegasus’ Wing(PW) Arcturus(Arc) Lion’s Heart(Lh) Bull’s Eye(Be) and Vulture’s Heart(Vh) A very rough dating can be deduced from the two“month” scales(just above the outermost altitude scale in degrees) which still show the Julian calendar. As indicated by the positions of solstices and equinoxes. The Gregorian calendar was introduced in 1582 on the continent, but in England the Jul

RARE 17th 18th CENTURY ENGLISH POTTERY -GOLDWEITZ COLLECTION at Sothebys
A Fine Vintage Auction Catalog- Important English Pottery-The Harriet Carlton Goldweitz Collection” CITY/ AUCTION GALLERY/ DATE: New York; Sotheby's: January 20. 2006. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The catalog to the auction sale of an important collection of 17th and 18th century English pottery. Featuring many outstanding and rare examples. Harriet Carlton Goldweitz began collecting antique English pottery in the 1971 when she was invited to join the Wedgwood Society, and she soon became a presence in salesrooms in England and America, starting with teapots and then broadening out to include other pieces of 17th and 18th century English pottery which caught her eye as unusually fine or interesting. She soon made the acquaintance of such knowledgeable collectors and scholars as Kathleen Tilley and Henry Sandon, ... morewho included some of her teapots in his book on the subject. As her collection grew her one rule was that the English pots she bought had to be of types that were exported to America in Colonial days. This beautiful auction catalog includes a prefatory by Ms. Goldweitz, and a longer appreciation of the collector and the collection by Letitia Roberts. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 8"x10.5" 218 pages, 177 lots, color illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear. Small rip at the top of the spine, but otherwise clean and nice, with a tight binding. Vintage ERPHILA GERMANY 17th Century Figures Ceramic Couple Porcelain Blue
Here we have a pair of German made porcelain figures depicting a 17th Century couple in all their finery. They were probably made in the early 1900's. And were imported by Eberling& Reuss of Philadelphia. The silver tag with the E&R logo and"ERPHILA" are still attached to both figures. The male figure stands 8.75" tall and is in great condition. With no chips, cracks or repairs. The lady is 9.5" tall and took a serious tumble sometime in the past. And has been repaired. On close inspection, cracks and a couple of missing chips are evident. But she does look dandy at a distance! The pair would make a nice addition to any collection. If only because of the link to ERPHILA and the discounted price. Thanks for looking!

Extremely rare antique very old oak or elm wooden crate. Coffer, cloth box estimated to be from the late 17th or early 18th Century with original handmade lock and key. Lock works and crate can be locked. This wooden coffer came from an old Monastry and according to a local antiques expert. Lock and wooden box are original late 17th early 18th Century. The very basic but working lock on it's own is a true piece of craft manship. Lock is hand made. Probably by a local lock smith and original, as is the key to go with it. All in perfect working order. Rather than wrecking it's original patina by(over) restoring it. GENUINE Christopher Saxton Map Northumberland 16th 17th Century £1 NR
100% Genuine 17th century edition of the first map of Northumberland originally published by Christopher Saxton in 1579. The original plate updated and decorated. Includes Berwick. Newcastle and Hadrian's Wall. Philip Lea bought the set of Saxton printing plates in the 1680s he improved and embellished them with coats of arms and other features. The map detail is essentially Saxton's. But there are additions of town plans of Newcastle and Berwick-on-Tweed and some roads. This has wide margins and the whole sheet measures 21 x 17 inches. A real bargain. The Philip Lea edition of Saxton maps sell for thousands. THIS MAP IS NOT REPAIRED OR DAMAGED. I notice that the left and bottom margin line is missing, this is a printing error. Let the market decide. This is £1 NO RESERVE. This will be carefully rolled and posted in a tube.

Here is a nice example of a 1650's European Renaissance Dagger 1650's Main Gauche. These were held in the left hand during a sword fight or battle. This type of dagger was used to block incoming sword thrusts or to strike the opponent when he came close in combat. The wire wrap is tight to the hilt and not loose. The blade is still period sharp. The guard has two extensions of hand forged iron. The blade is tight to the hilt. The blade had an chiseled inscription on one side but it is too worn to make out. The blade is 16 inches long. The entire length is 21 1/2 inches. This is a nice mid 17th century dagger.

It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. A Superb Rare Probable 17th Century Carved Scrimshaw Panel Of The Royal Charles
A Superb Rare Probable 17 th Century Carved Scrimshaw Panel Of The Royal Charles Ship. Some Natural Cracks And Wear To Panel. Enclosed In A Vintage Wooden Frame. The Back Of The Frame Has Some Faded Writing Which Is Difficult To Read. Measuring Approximately 10.2cm High x 7.6cm Wide Excluding Frame. Believed To Be Natural Material. Information About The Royal Charles: There are two ships I can find under this name) Royal Charles was an 80-gun first-rate three-decker ship of the line of the English Navy. She was originally called the Naseby. Built by Peter Pett. And launched at Woolwich dockyard in 1655. For the navy of the Commonwealth of England, 1] and named in honour of Oliver Cromwell's decisive 1645 victory over the Royalist forces during the English Civil Wars. She was ordered in 1654 as one of a programme of four second rates. ... moreIntended to carry 60 guns each. However, she was altered during construction to mount a complete battery of guns along the upper deck(compared with the partial battery on this deck of her intended sisters, on which there were no gunports in the waist along this deck) and so was reclassed as a first rate. In the run-up to the Restoration of the monarchy during June 1660 she was anchored in The Downs off Deal. Where her laurel-crowned figurehead of Oliver Cromwell was removed before sailing to the Dutch Republic at the head of the fleet sent to bring King Charles II back to England. Captained by Sir Edward Montagu and still under her Parliamentary name. 2] On arrival in Scheveningen she was renamed HMS Royal Charles and took Charles and his entourage(including Samuel Pepys) on board. Landing them at Dover. Under her new name. She thus joined the Royal Navy which formally came into being in 1660. At 1.229 tons, Naseby was larger than Sovereign of the Seas. The first three-deck ship of the line, built by Phineas Pett. Peter's father. Unlike Sovereign of the Seas. Which was in service from 1637 to 1697, Naseby was to enjoy only twelve years in service. As Royal Charles

DUTCH 16th & 17th CENTURY GARDENS AS SHOWN IN PAINTINGS & PRINTS -Frick Museum
Gardens of Earthly Delight. Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century Netherlandish Gardens” By Kahren Jones Helerstedt. Published in Pittsburgh by the Frick Art Museum in 1986. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Gardens have always been intriguing artistic subjects. Mainly because of their mythological and Biblical symbolism. The Dutch had no formal gardens of their own until the late 17th century, and early Netherlandish artists used Italian models, and imagination, to portray them. Thus, unlike the realistic interiors of the same period, most of the garden settings are pure fantasy. The exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints, and rare books for which this is the catalog was not exactly a blockbuster; budget restrictions limited borrowing to the East Coast, and many of the artists are obscure. Nevertheless, the show had substance, ... morefocusing more on iconography than artistic merit, and Hellerstedt discusses aspects of Netherlandish art not previously examined in depth. Recommended for art research libraries” Library Journal) DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 8.5”x11.5” 82 pages, color and black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear. Light soil, but otherwise clean and nice, with a tight binding. OVERSEAS BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Our International shipping charges are based on the weight. WESTERWALD "GR" TANKARD, LATE 17th, EARLY 18th CENTURY in BLUE & PURPLE
Up for sale is a simply magnificent. Late 17th or early 18th century"Westerwald" pottery/ stoneware, salt-glazed tankard, with applied"GR" King George) cypher/ rosette, and body with cobalt blue& purple manganese decorated throat. The vessel measures approximately 6 1/2 inches tall, with a 2 1/8 inch circumference opening. These vessels(as well as a myriad of other designs) were created in the Westerwald(Rheinland/ Pfalz) region of Germany beginning in the mid 16th century from my limited research, and were imported in large quantities to England, and of course, over time, many, many examples of this type of stoneware made their way to the American colonies. Numerous examples, both intact and in shards, have been excavated at many colonial sites on the east coast of the United States over the years during archaeological ... moredigs. This type of vessel would've most likely been utilized as tavern-ware, or as robust house-hold drinking vessel, typically for either wine or beer. The separately applied"GR" cypher, rosette) for King George, would be an obvious indicator of its vintage as well as its intended audience, and would place it, by its configuration and style, somewhere in the late 17th to early 18th century. It was found locally, in a 200 plus year old home, where it'd resided in an attic for many decades. It is in miraculously wonderful condition, and the cobalt blue and purple manganese colors are still quite vibrant. In addition to the"GR" cypher, there is an incised sun-burst design which surrounds it, as well as incised floral designs which flank the sunburst& GR" rosette on both sides. Additionally, the throat has incised horizontal lines, which are embellished w/ the application of the purple manganese coloration. On one side of the tankard appears a stylistic, incised number"6" which one would assume indicates the capacity of this particular drinking vessel. There are two oblong, almost football shaped depressions on the handle, which a

FABULOUS 17th/18th century Italian gold and silver thread embroidered silk
For sale is an exceptional gold and silver thread embroidered silk. Silk measures 26.5 x 39 inches. And features a splendid foliate design with elaborate gold thread borders. It is hard to pin down the exact date of this piece precisely: it is safe to say that it is pre-Neo Classical in origin, while the bold stem and foliate elements suggest that it precedes the lighter, airier Rococo. That would place it around the early 18th century or earlier, possibly much earlier. While I am not entirely sure of its origin, its courtly style, with its flamboyant gold and silver thread set against a dramatic red silk background, suggests Continental origin, Italian or French. While I think it unlikely, English origin is also a remote possibility. As you can see from the photographs. The needlework is first-rate. Every stem, flower and detail is intricately ... morehand-sewn, and condition is superb for a piece of its age. The silk has faded in some areas, and has torn/worn in others, particularly around the edges. Most of the embroidery is pristine, with an occasional split/broken thread here and there, including a couple in the gold thread border. This once hung in the prestigious law offices of Dewey Leboeuf in New York City in Manhattan and looks the part. it is a gorgeous presentation piece in every way. Item is in a heavy frame and will be taken out of frame and rolled gently in acid-free paper and shipped in a tube to winning bidder. Alternatively, winning bidder can come pick it up in its frame if they are going to be in Washington DC.

This is a massive 1590's-1620's museum grade Schiavona. This is one of the finest examples outside of a museum that you will find. This sword has the Solingen makers mark of the orb and cross. There is still partial gold inlay in this mark. The other side of the blade has the famous Passau running wolf makers mark. This blade is massive over 40 1/4 inches total length and a 33 3/4 inch blade. The blade is very wide just under 2 inches with a single fuller. Antique Japanese Painting Tosa School 17th Century 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 " Gd. Cond.
This auction is for an antique Japanese painting on paper. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" and in good condition. According to a note on the backing this painting is mounted on, it is from the 1650's. It is also described as being from the Tosa school. I am not an expert but this came from a house with many early works of Japanese art and other antiquities. The painting is gilded in places, and there appear to be a few lines of separation in certain areas of paint, similar to what happens to oil paint after a long time. Check the jpeg. Antique 17th century French silk & metal braid with metal eyelet fringing
Antique 17th century French silk& metal braid with metal eyelet fringing Welcome to my shop! Whilst sifting through an old trunk recently acquired from a large estate sale. I was delighted to find a wonderful hoard of antique passmenterie. The hoard dates from 1700- 1920's and includes silk and wool braids and fringing, some very old french tassels, along with metallic trims, fringes and lace. There are some exceptional pieces that will be very hard to part with! A length of antique French 17th century silk and metal woven braid with metal wire eyelet fringing. The braid has a silk warp and the weft threads are gold metal. Creating the patterning. The fringing is applied to the back of the braid. There is some wear and tear to the braid. Some of the warp threads have been damaged with time and the meat weft threads are coming loose ... morein a couple of areas. The braid has seen some repair already. The length has been sewn together at 5 places, as seen in the photos. At the join there is a change to the fringing, the fringing of the first 23.5 inches/59.5 cm of the left hand side is shorter than the original fringing by 1 inch. there is also some damage to the right end of the braid, and the fringing here is 1 inch longer, but is fastende 1 inch higher onto the braid to keep the length even, as seen in the photos. The braid is 1.75 inches deep/ 4.5 cm and the total depth including the fringing is 5 inches/ 13 cm at the shorter part. And 6.75 inches/ 17 cm at the longer part. Fine late 17th or 18th Century Chinese hardwood document box
This auction is for a fine late 17th or 18th Century Chinese wooden document box. It is quite rare for such an early piece to make it to the USA in a reasonably unrestored state so I hope you will find the condition to be a positive thing rather than a negative. Reminds me of the market for Windsor chairs that were always stripped to be rid of the'ugly' old paint or Arts and Crafts furniture that was stripped to admire the wood better. and now everyone knows to leave well enough alone and both examples in original condition are far more valuable than any items that found their way to the dipper's tank. Only to look like new after refinishing. As you know, most of these document boxes have ruyi brasses at the corner's of the lid so this box is a bit unusual but not unprecedented as Christie's sold a huanghuali picnic box ... morelast year with similar mounts on a box they dated to the 18th Century. Just added an image with one of the replaced corner brasses removed from the lid. Carefully removed the finish so you may be able to identify the wood this fine box is crafted from as it shouldn't matter being hidden anyway. PLEASE look at my photographs and ask questions if you require any explanation. If you would like more pictures. Tell me what you want images of and be sure to include your email address. CONDITION: Probably the most pressing issue is the replacement of some of the brass mounts. A few others will need to be replaced with surfaces matched to the original brasses. The wood surfaces of the box itself appear to be the original finish with one later coat of lacquer applied many years ago. Probably the same time the brasses were restored. Best of all is the red lacquer finish to the interior that is in very fine original condition. The lacquer on the base is a bit rough and shows loss but is a rare survivor as well. SIZE: Not including brass mounts) 353 mm wide. 192 mm deep and 121 mm tall. Roughly converts to 13 7/8 by 7 1/2 by 4 3/4 inches. SHIPPING: Probably FedEx if it ends up selling

17th-19th CENTURY HAND MADE BRASS BUCKLE W/UNUSUAL DESIGN VG+
ANTIQUE HAND MADE BRASS BUCKLE UNUSUAL IN DESIGN I'm guessing the age is 17th to 19th century. When closed the buckle is about 1 3/4" X 1 1/2" Made of heavy brass with pins at two joints that allow it to open up. May have been used to put something else inside the belt loop besides the leather strap. Might have a military application. In VG+ condition with light tarnish on one side. I assume it's American because it was found in Ohio. see all 9 photos)
Fantasias and Variations by Dutch Masters of the 17th century.
FANTASIAS AND VARIATIONS by DUTCH MASTERS of the 17th century for Recorder. Flute or Violin
A very old and rare violin, probably early 17th century
Hello, I am offering this very old and rare violin probably made in early 17th century in Southern Germany near Black forest or Northern Italy. The outline and the elongated ff holes are particularly interesting to see. If you have been browsing the auction houses such as Christies. Sotheby's, Tarisio, Brompton's, Bonhams, and many others, you will instantly recognize how special this violin is. From its construction. This violin does not follow any general models like that of Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati, nor is it anything similar to that of Stainers. The rather shortened corners can hardly be found in any older violins throughout 18th century. Several world experts in violin identification has been pondered by this very old violin. If you are looking for a"sleeper" in musical instrument auctions. This can very well be one. ... moreThe violin requires proper repair/ set up for performance. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. The violin will be accompanied with a violin case. Thanks for looking! On Mar-29-13 at 11:22:14 PDT. Seller added the following information: Various buyers have inquired regarding the size of this violin. This is a full sized violin with length of 35.5cm. Thanks for all the inquiries! On Mar-31-13 at 06:46:10 PDT. Seller added the following information: One of the ebayers has kindly given me his opinion on this violin. He thought this is very likely an old violin(circa 1700s or earlier) made in Poland area. I would just like to thank you for all the inputs.

16th or 17th century FUSSANGEL. IRON,
A 16th or 17th century Fussangel comprising 4 iron spikes. Hand beaten from a single piece of iron, each spike approximately 1½ inches. Fussangels were used in the middle ages and later when troops were mounted on horseback. EXTREMELY RARE 17TH CENTURY DUTCH DELFT BLUE AND WHITE PLATE W. EROTIC SCENE
A late 17th century Dutch Delft plate with an extremely rare blue and white painted scene of a richly dressed young gentleman standing amidst a dazzling array of flower s. He is whistling and two birds on either side of him are flying towards him while he holds his left hand in his partly opened coat. He seems to be luring the birds with his whistling and grabbing inside his coat for what perhaps would be"bird seed" or something else that birds like. In a typical 17 th century Dutch humoristic manner the scene refers to making a pass(at some birds) and to erotic love for that sake. Though not explicitly showing any of this. Surely for most 17 th century Dutch adults a picture like this would hold no secrets. LV monogram mark in blue on the backside. Possibly for Louwys Victorsz. owner of Delft factory“De Dobbelde Schenckan” Or Lambertus ... morevan Eenhoorn, owner of“De Metalen Pot” Delft, c. 1680– 1700. Diameter across the rim: approx. 22.4 cm. Height: approx. 2,8 cm. Overall good condition. The usual wear on the rim edge. With small chips and glaze losses. A small section of the rim. B elow the feet of the gentleman. Has been glued and restored. Please look at the scans. Shipping solely with registered(sign-for) insured and track& trace PostNL mail. Within Europe shipping costs € 20.
