Condition: Used Location: Oakland, United States A fabulous find is this antique solid quartersawn and straight sawn oak cabinet with handsome designs of inlay on the door and around the drawers. Two ... moreof the three doors are false. However, the drawer area encompasses the entire area under the main cabinet and the bottom. The door has a fantastic inlaid shell design. The classic canted corners help display how beautiful the patina is on this old cabinet. The door to the inside is paneled and is chamfered on the inside. There are several shelves. Height to the top = 42" Width across the front = 24 3/4" Depth is 19" in the middle and 20 1/2" on each rear side. Canted corners are 4" each. Area under front of cabinet is 1 3/4" This corner cabinet as always beena corner cabinet and built as such versus being a hanging corner cabinet made from the top of a standing cabinet. It is in very good and ready to hang condition. There have been a repairs on this cabinet.some older than others.the very top left piece of molding has been replaced as well as the molding on the base on the left. The middle knob is not original and the shell has had a few additions due to a very small amount of inlay loss. Quality and time tested craftsmanship helps make this cabinet sweet. Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular intervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. It will certainly be treasured
