Crafted with entirely solid mahogany primary woods chosen for their brilliant grain displays. Both table top surfaces are full planks of mahogany, deeply patinated with wonderful oxidization dancing beneath the warm glowing and quite early finish, lifting on hand forged hinges with original screws. A single drawer slides easily in and out of the frame, hand dovetailed front and back with what appears to be the original pierced brass hardware, all framed inside of cockbead molding that surrounds the drawer. The table rests over square marlboro legs, chamfered on the interior corner to lighten the overall appearance of the legs, these terminating in molded feet. The back leg swings over a knuckle joint on a very thick and heavy oak gate leg, appearing to be red oak, pinned to the leg with double pegs locking the tenon-mortise joint. Double pegs are also visible at both corners of the back of the table, and when the leg opens it reveals the clean dovetailed frame, these quite distinctive and perfectly matching the drawer. This is a wonderful find for the serious collector of Pennsylvania furniture. As well as the decorator looking for a highly versatile and absolutely gorgeous functional work of art. Working for any number of design settings, as a serving table in the dining room, a hallway table with a chair on either side, as a small desk in the library or as a functional card table, this piece is incredibly sturdy and is meant to be used. With a deep and glowing patina in the well preserved finish, stunning full boards of mahogany and the elegance highlighted in the fretwork and chamfered molded legs, this is a very fine piece for any formal home. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. The chair shown to give a sense of scale Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably well preserved English Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Desk from the third quarter of the 18th century. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk. Just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware adorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. Antique Japanese Tansu style side tables
Tansu is unique cabinetry of Japan. It springs from a rich folk-art tradition and dates back as far as 7th century Japan. Tansu meaning is Chest. The style was the ability to pick up and go with. hence a chest) These tables stand 24" tall and have a 23 3/4" table top that is 24" at the longest. The cabinet is 23" wide and 10 1/2" thick. with a total of 29 1/2" across top front. The Koi fish lock are solid brass and in working condition as are the keys. All trim work is brass also. These tables are very strong and sturdy. There is some damage to them as seen in the pictures. The hinges are in need of repair and original pieces of wood are included for repair. Hollywood Regency Mid Century Modern Up for auction is a nice set of 3 vintage 1960's or 1970's nesting/stacking tables in good vintage condition. The legs are beautifully tapered wood. The tops have a Formica faux marbalized finish and around each table top is a faux inlaid design. Individually they stand 15 inches high and the diameter of each top is 17 inches. These are in good used condition, the tops appear to be almost like new. The legs just have a few minor rubs but a little Formby's should take care of those. Some of the brass tops(one is a little dented) on the legs are tarnished with age and could be cleaned with a brass cleaner or a very fine steel wool. But all in all the tables look great. Two very nice solid maple nightstands or could be used has end tables if put back to wall. The wood is in great shape for age. The finish needs some touch up or use as is with aged patina and character. These nightstands were made by the forest furniture company which I believe went out of business. ANTIQUE DARK HARD WOOD CARVED NESTING TABLES - ESTATE SALE FIND
NESTING TABLES These nesting tables were rescued at an estate sale from a barn on the property of a north shore Long Island old farmhouse property. The seller had no history or knowledge of them. When I got these tables home I cleaned them up with some Liquid Gold and let them sit for 24 hours before taking these photos. Don't these tables look great! Very attractive dark wood nesting tables with carved top and front. Unknown natural dark hard wood; does not appear to be stained this dark. Both pieces have a very detailed and ornate carved top of leaves and a smooth ripple border. The small piece has a front piece that matches the top carving. The taller of the two pieces measures: 12 inches tall by 11 ½ inches across and 11 inches deep. The shorter table slides into the taller table. There is a grove for the two tables to slide ... moretogether. The shorter table measures 12 ¼ inches by 9 ¼ inches by 10 ½ inches. It looks like these tables at one time were in the same room that was getting painted because there are some very tiny white dots on the top like you would get from a paint roller. I believe with a little work and patient you will be able to clean these tables up. The tops are screwed to the bases; all screws are solid& secure. All joints are solid and secure; there are two joints in the tall table in the back crossbar that are loose but are in place. Stable, secure and make very little wobble when moved.
