This has remained solid and beautifully crafted ready to hand down to a new fortunate child. At one time, this had a key for the drawers and the roll top. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. Solid Cherry.....English Antique Furniture Eastlake dresser commode...circa 1810
This is a charming English made solid cherry antique dresser circa 1810. I acquired this from a couple who came to the United States from England. This piece is consistent with English cabinetmaking.This is made from solid cherry planks. The candle stands which flank the mirror are wonderful.The carvings and hand turned finials are beautiful. The hardware is all original except for the 2 small upper drawers which is new. All of the lower drawers have locks which work excellently with a new key. The hand cut dovetail joinery and hand chamfered drawer bottoms are beautiful. The drawer fronts are 1" thick solid cherry, there is no veneer on this entire piece.The secondary wood is poplar. The mirror glass is new.The mirror is on tilting mounts(it does not stay fixed when tilted. Just let in hang vertically) This piece has lots of battle ... morescars(nicks, dings etc) and some repairs earned over its lifetime such as dings in both side panels about the size of a"pea" The top(across the full width.left to right) has an age separation shrinkage crack which I repaired(you can still tell there was a crack despite the repair(see photo) some drawer bottoms have age shrinkage separations,there are some age shrinkage separations(cracks) in the side panels, worn edges, small stains in the top and character marks consistent with any fine antique.I refinished the top and the mirror frame, after repairing a missing piece of wood around the mirror thumb screw. The inlaid brass keyhole escutcheons are all in place. Most of the dresser has the original finish with a gorgeous patina as you can easily see in the mirror support photos etc. This wonderful piece will look beautiful wherever you decide to place it whether an entryway. Bedroom or living room.I restored all of the drawers and reinforced some internally with wood blocking.The drawers are strong, stable and they slide excellently.I t has such delicate graceful lines which sets it apart from the crowd. all the best. Up for auction is a buffet cabinet made by Berkey and Gay Furniture company is nice condition. I purchased this cabinet second hand one year ago with another B&G piece. It is too big for our house. So we are selling it. Manufacture date unknown, but I suspect late 1800's to early 1900's based on several similar examples I found on the Internet. Cabinet seems very solid. It is extremely heavy. Drawers and doors all work smoothly. The door on the left has a hairline fracture line(see third picture above) I cannot determine if this was a natural occurance or as a result of some other damage. It does not appear to have been repaired by any method that I can determine. But I am also not an expert in furniture repair. This is a very nice piece. But has some small blemishes. Vintage Wood Finials Antique Clocks Furniture These are nice old pieces for antique clocks or furniture repairs. I am calling them vintage but have no idea their age. The wood has been stained a dark color. I believe they are a pine or other light wood. As you can see I have many of these and will send you the"pick of the litter" Second picture shows how they look after a little Old English with no sanding. If you want them like new the pieces need to be maybe lightly sanded before you refinished/paint them as they do have some very minor scratchs and such. None of these will have any chips. Pieces are almost 3.5" high& 1.5" across at the bottom which does not include the mounting screw. You will get these a little dusty/dirty as you see in the 3rd and 4th picture. This is a beautiful solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1810.The figured walnut top is very rich and beautiful with its grain patterns,rich walnut tones and beauty marks. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. The harp shaped end is gorgeous as you can easily see with its ... morecone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base.The slant top is fixed in position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character.
