Silhouette Reverse Glass Painting of The Sovereign of the Seas - 3 masted ship
Hello friends. I have been going through my vast collections of silhouettes and have decided to list all that are not member of my family. There is everything from reverese glass to early pieces from the 1700 to early 1900's. The first piece I am listing is a reverse glass silhouette painting of a three masted ship entitled Sovereign of the Seas No. 5093 and marked twice. C. A. Richards. Boston, MASS ad on the frame holder(when placed on a table) in a oval embossing: Richards, Boston, Mass. It is in it's original black and gold leave frame. The frame measures 5 1/2" x4 1/2" is 1/2" deep with decorative indentation on the sides. there is some loss of paint on the dram on the left and right sides. The interior glass and the painting are in perfect condition and measure 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" On the back side there ... moreis a little rubbing off of the leatherette on the left& ride sides, but the frame is solid, the signature is clear, perfect and untouched and the is a little brass circle for holding with a nail to the wall and and two sold brads holding the frame portion that props the painting silhouette on a table. It really is in lovely condition for it's age and a perfect piece to begin a collection or to add to a collection. It is also a lovely anchor for a vignette in a shabby chic home. A little bit of the blue is rubbed off in the middle so u can see though to the wood but it still looks cool. Very Unique. its 19 x 23 the Frame is a bit chipped and scraped but it makes it look more interesting. Not sure the Year of this. Looks old though. I havent been able to find another like it online.

VINTAGE ANSON REVERSE PAINTING UNDER GLASS FLYING DUCK BIRD CUFFLINKS FOR HUNTER
This is a pair of vintage gold-plated cufflinks with a reverse painting under glass of a duck flying over a grassy marsh. The cufflinks are a little more than 5/8 inch(11/16 inch. To be exact) in diameter and the reverse painting is 1/2 inch in diameter. These cufflinks are in very good vintage condition: one has some damage to the background. Snuff Bottle- Interior Reverse Paintings This weekend(June 8th) was particularly exciting because one of my favorite shows came to town. Antiques Roadshow was filming in Jacksonville this weekend. And I won two tickets in their limited(only 3000 tickets available) ticket lottery. This snuff bottle collection was a natural, because I knew very, very little about the values and/or the rarity. One of Roadshow's senior appraisers. Lark Mason, was gracious enough to take the time to examine each snuff bottle and give me an auction estimate of their value, as well as a qualified opinion of the item's makeup as well as a knowledgeable estimate of the age. All of the bottles I showed him were from the 1800s. with one or two being from the very early 1900s. Snuff. A finely ground mixture of tobacco and spices, became a widespread practice ... moreduring the seventeenth century of the Qing Dynasty. It is thought to have been introduced by the Jesuits to early Qing emperors and spread down from the high members of court to the common people. This proved to be an acceptable replacement for illegal smoking tobacco, due to it's suggested healing properties. Like much else in this culture, the decorated containers for the snuff became a status indicator; competitions were common in the higher class to try and have the rarest and finest bottles. Bottle decorations range from materials to painting techniques. Most bottles are made from glass. Porcelain, jade/ivory, wood, tortoise shell, metal or ceramic. A particularly tedious(and gorgeous! method includes close to 150 coats of pigmented lacquer and a painstakingly intricate carved design. Some bottles were painted, from the inside, with tiny bamboo bristles with everything from traditional Chinese art to gorgeous scenery. These are highly collectible! This large decorative framed wall mirror features an eglomise reverse printed image on glass featuring COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON in Charleston. South Carolina. The image is an exquisite pen and watercolor reverse transfer printed image of Randolph Hall. Randolph Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places and is among the oldest college buildings still in use for academic classes in the country, built 1828-29. Overall size is 26" height x 14.5" wide. The top part is the college image and the lower part is a large mirror. Handsomely pale gilt antiqued wood frame, high quality fine furniture style. It is a beautiful countryside with a Dutch windmill and barn next to the water's edge. A sa ilboat is out in the water. The grass is tall along side th e path. It's very difficult to find one of these paintings without some flaking or damage. There is a spot in the middle of one barn that I originally thought was fog. I didn't even realize the painting was missing as you see the cardboard backing. It can be touched up or even substitu te a darker piece of paper behind it and you won't even notice it. There was really old tape on the back of the frame that I removed. The glass and backing need to be ta ped back into the faux tiger eye frame. Antique Scottish Reverse Painting Checkerboard-Glasgow, Scotland circa-1890's
Up for auction is this great antique reverse painting checkerboard on glass in what I believe is an oak wood frame. We have owned it for over 40 years. There is an antique metal circle hanger to hang the board diagonal. It was made in Scotland in the middle to late 1800's. We believe it was reframed in 1901 as that is the date on the old backing we removed. We repaired the backing 25 years ago& discovered behind the old cardboard backing a newspaper called the Glasgow Evening Post with a date of December of 1901. The were many wonderful articles and great advertisements in this old newspaper. Much about the Boar War-so much to learn about the life in Scotland at the turn of the century. We saved the old cardboard-which was signed-Richard Galloway and has the year 1901 written on it. On the back side of the mirror it is printed in a oval shape: A. Ramsey& Son Dec 1896 Warranted Montreal The colors are still vivid. There are 3 spots where the veneer on the frame is damaged(with one repair) but it doesn't detract from it's sense of presence. Antique Reverse Painting on Glass Roundel variation of Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s“Wedding Dance” This is a fantastic reverse painting on glass variation of Flemish Master Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s Wedding Dance(original work created in 1566) Independent expertise advises this variation dates to very early 20 th Century or earlier and is nicely executed from a studio that produced them in some quantity. It is suggested that the source might be American but just as likely European. Perhaps in the Low Countries where Brueghel lived and workshops, including his sons and grandsons, reproduced his work. It’s a wonderful piece with history, humor, curiosity and a modicum of mystery thrown in. Dimensions of the roundel image itself are; framed piece is The piece is. Without a doubt, a variation of Brueghel’s famous Wedding Dance. The location ... moreand placement of the characters in the painting suggest it is an extracted version of the scene vs. a copy of the original. The location of the church and the inn suggest a real vs. conjectured spot and the language on the sign seems to make sense only if read in Dutch or Flemish vs. French as originally supposed. This stunning East Asian painting on reverse glass is a Tibetan Buddha Yogi that is seated in the first position of the Art of yoga. Reverse painting on glass is just like it sounds. The artist paints the figure and images on the back of a piece of glass and on the front side is his creation. This is an extremely tedious art form that is still practiced today by a few artists. The Buddha figure in this picture practices the Buddhist religion and through yoga he is practicing transcendental meditation. You are viewing a very vintage antique item. This is a Statue of Liberty Reverse Painting with an Oval Convex Bubble Glass Picture. This was produced in 1917 during U.S. involvement in WWI. A very vintage and rare opportunity to have something from a forgotten era in our country's history of about 100 years ago. Some notes and details to mention about this item: 1. Lower center of painting says"Statue of Liberty. N.Y. 2. Lower right corner of painting says"1917 Chicago Portraits. 3. Backside has original cardboard back and wire wall hanger attached to it. 4. The front frame border looks to be original. By no means in mint condition, but has nice patina and age that give piece a feeling of nostalgia from this era. There are areas of frame that have chipped/cracked away and has lost its gold color in these places. 5. Painting ... morehas some fading/chipping. But again gives it patina from its era. 6. Painting shows Statue of Liberty with skyline of New York City in background. Shows people/soldiers standing around base of statue. There are U.S. NAVY battleships in water on sides of statue and a beautiful American flag landscaped along the skyline in the background. 7. Please look closely. Again this painting is not perfect and has its flaws, but would make an excellent piece to any WWI era collection. 8. Dimensions are: Height: 23" Width: 16 3/4" Frame: about 1 inch deep and 2" wide.
