Be sure to add me to your! This 1930's FOIL-BACKED REVERSE PAINTING of an EARLY EXPLORER's SHIP is framed by a solid wood. Silver-painted Deco frame. The reverse painting is done in black and depicts an early Spanish galleon on the high seas with occasional birds in the sky. The backing for the black reverse-painted glass is silver foil, left silver under the oceans and tinted pink at the horizon, and tinted pastel blue for the ship's sky background.The tinting does not come out in the photos) The front foil does not quite cover the top of the sky. Obviously, but I fell in love with it when I saw it. The painting is set into a lacquered and hand carved wooden frame. It is in excellent condition and there are no chips or cracks to the glass. The frame has some small areas of wear but nothing that you would not expect. It measures 22” by 14¾” At the top of the frame is a decorate brass hanger. From which to hang it by. Vintage reverse painting on glass. Three dimensional daisies. Beautiful.
We have here a wonderful old reverse painting on glass. What is unique about it is that it was painted on three separate panes of glass. Which are floating above the painted background and giving the art work a wonderful three dimensional look. It makes you feel like you could actually pick the daisies. The image size is approximately 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" and the outside of the shadow-box style frame measures approximately 9" x 11" It weighs a little over five pounds, very heavy for its size because of all those panes of glass. It's signed"Gosselin" in the lower left corner of the background level, but I don't know if you can see that in the photo. I had a hard time getting a photo of it because of the reflection in the glass. The only defect in the whole piece, if you can call it a defect, is that at one ... moretime someone apparently tried to see what was behind the paper covering the back. I have shown that in the last photo. Other than that, it's in mint condition. If you look at the framer's label on the back, you will see that there is no area code in the phone number, which tells us that it was most likely framed some time before 1947. I bought 2 really excellent reverse paintings on glass at a little estate sale and I have to confess that I don't know anything about them except that they are probably Chinese and they are both really pretty. I am listing them separately and if you buy both I will rebate part of the shipping costs since eBay requires an instant payment for Buy It Nows and doesn't allow me to combine shipping costs before payment. This one is 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" and I think this is an empress. The colors are bright and the detail is excellent. Just a really pretty piece that may have some age to it. I just don't know. The subject matter consists of a blue and clear glass vase which is filled with a bouquet of naively painted flowers. The painting is backed with tin foil. Antique. I believe this to be a EUROPEAN style PRE-DISNEY wooden decorative tray. This features SNOW WHITE and the SEVEN DWARFS. Reverse painting and foil-work. Simple wood tray with solid paint on the back. Small handles on each end. Some of the paint is peeling/flaking away from the interior of the glass but the images are still bright and metallic in the foils. Some paint loss along the edges of the wood tray A truly fascinating piece. To me. It looks Indian but this is not my area of expertise- maybe it's yours? Up for bid is this gorgeous antique silhouette reverse painting on convex glass featuring a Victorian couple engaged in a wedding proposal inside a drawing room or parlor. Unique to the artist. This style is unusual for silhouette images, as it's the silhouettes of a chandelier and table with vining plant, rather than the man and woman's, that are painted in black on the back side of the beveled glass. This is then backed with a litho print of the courtship or engagement taking place within the Victorian interior design with Baroque elements. A signature border frames the picture, and the piece is set in its original wood frame that has a carved baroque Art Nouveau design. The beautifully illustrated print is faintly marked in the lower left hand corner"S. Colef 3-15-42" The artists name is Corporal S. Colef. And these were ... moremade at the beginning of World War II when the Victorian lovers theme was very popular. The raised bubble glass gives the illusion of depth. The style was adapted from the earliest form of the cameo silhouette dating back to the early 1700s in England. The technique comes from th e Verre Églomisé. The dimensions are 8 5/8" x 6 3/4" The glass and frame are in excellent condition. The print surface contains a bit of aging and staining. One crease on the side, and slight warping due to a tear spot from the nail. The back boarding has its original picture hanger intact, but it should probably be reinforced. Antique, Federal style mirror with reverse painting on the top, maple frame, 186
This mirror. With reverse painting, was made in the 1860's thru 1870's it is from an estate in upstate NY. where it has resided for all of it's life, generations! This piece has had the back replaced with pine boards, as originally it probably would have been paper. The mirror I believe is original but I can't be absolute on that! The reverse painting is original and does show some lose of paint, probably from being in an old house with varying degrees of temperature and humidity. The frame is made of maple wood. The mirrors size is 21 1/4" tall and 11 1/4" wide. The condition I would say is good, so please look over all photos and judge for yourself as it is, 140+ years old! Antique Federal/Sheraton Wall Mirror. With Reverse Painting. This lovely antique mirror features a refinished frame(with exception to the very top. Which was left with the old finish intact) The frame features fluted columns trimmed at the bottom with brass medallions. The reverse painting above the mirror that features the Sailing Schooner is a replacement. But a rather nicely done one at that. A perfect fit for this mirror. The glass in the mirror is the original and its condition speaks for its age as well as its beauty! Measurements are- 21 and 1/4 inches tall by 13 and 1/4 inches wide by 2 and 1/2 inches deep. This is a genuine hand painting in reverse on glass titled MARIETTA COLLEGE 1872. The glass is 12 1/4" X 6 1/2" and framed to 14 1/2" X 9 3/4" The reverse painting is very well done and has a few very minor scratches in it. Lighted Tibetan Buddha Yogi Picture: Reverse Painting on Glass w/Gilt Frame
This stunning East Asian painting on reverse glass is a Tibetan Buddha Yogi that is seated in the first position of the Art of yoga. Reverse painting on glass is just like it sounds. The artist paints the figure and images on the back of a piece of glass and on the front side is his creation. This is an extremely tedious art form that is still practiced today by a few artists. The Buddha figure in this picture practices the Buddhist religion and through yoga he is practicing transcendental meditation. Buddhist theology is where man is inherently put on Earth to suffer however. Through yoga a physical practice and transcendental meditation an emotional one, man can relieve his suffering by letting her/his ills pass from the physical and emotional self to an unknown place outside the body thus reaching a state of eternal peace. These practices ... morecan be repeated when a Buddhist begins to suffer discomfort. In picture one I have shown the painting unlighted with it's wonderful gilt frame and in picture two I have shown the picture in the darkness(pictured#1& 2) When the picture is lit in the dark it has a rippling-water effect so slight that it enhances this art form to it's maximum potential. In picture three I have shown a close-up of one of the cornices of the frame to show the intricate details of the frame itself(pictured#3) This item is in'near-mint' condition with just a slight sliver missing on the bottom right hand side of the frame too tiny to picture and not visible to the naked eye. This type of lighting is contained in the box in the back of the framing(pictured#4) To change the bulb there are a few screws to loosen on the backside of the box and the box then lifts off the framing exposing the bulb and rippling assembly. Beautiful Vintage Hand Painted Footed Candy Dish Exceptional Reverse Painting

I do know it is very old and the painting is very fine. Some of the paint is applied to the interior and the base color is applied underneath. There is some slight loss of the gold trim however over all it is in wonderful condition. There are no chips. Cracks, or nips and no repairs. The dish measures 5" in diameter and 2 3/4" high. I would estimate the age at around the 1930's or earlier. It is a very unusual piece and of very high quality. We are offering this at no reserve.
