12 GRIFFITH'S PURIFIED SPICE JARS & RACK RED TOPS WHITE MILKGLASS BLACK LETTERS
You are bidding on a set of Griffith's Purified spice jars and rack. Griffith Laboratories began making these spice sets in 1939 and they were immediately popular. And are now highly collectible. They were originally sold through the home furnishings departments of Marshall Field's, Macy's and other fine stores. Sets were sold in a variety of colors, though the red is classic. The jars in this 12-piece set are the standard size at 4.25" tall. The milk glass features vertical art deco columns on the front and side panels. And two raised horizontal bars with four short columns on the back. There are two All Spice. But the rest are all different. The milk glass jars are free of any chips or cracks. The red metal caps are in various degrees of condition. Some are nice, a couple have dents and a few have rust. I have tried to ... moreshow the worse one in one of the photos. It is one of the All Spice jars which also has a somewhat rusty sifter. The original plastic rack is still present, designed to stand upright on a counter or be mounted to a wall via the holes in the rear panel. There is a crack in the center that I have also tried to show in the one picture. Other than doing a gentle cleaning on the exterior, the jars are in as-found condition and still filled with their spices. The fronts of the jars feature fired-on labels. Which are all present, with minimal wear. Ten of the 12 jars still feature their original metal sifter inserts. Celery Salt and one of the All Spice are missing their inserts.
