This is considered the book that all other gasoline engine books are gauged by. It is commonly called the BYB an is"American Gasoline Engines Since 1872" by Charles Wendel. It was published in 1983 and this is a first printing. It is probably the most complete and comprehensive book of manufacturers of engines. It is very detailed and has information about hundreds of companies that built engines. It is heavily illustrated and is definitely a must have for any early engine collector or enthusiast! It measures about 9 x 11 1/4 and has 586 pages. It is in good used condition with minor soiling and some slight damage to the bottom of the spine.
