Fine, rare and impressive antique Victorian ... moreEnglish sterling silver egg cruet for eight persons; part of the diverse antique dining silverware collection at AC Silver. Description. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver egg cruet set consists of eight egg cups and eight associated spoons. Displayed on a functional, purpose-made stand with a central carrying handle. The original hallmarked egg cups have a plain inverted bell-shaped form onto a plain circular spreading foot. The egg cups are ornamented with applied moulded rims. And retain their original gilt interiors. The eight supporting egg spoons have shield-shaped bowls. The anterior face of each spoon handle is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest- out of a human heart a dexter arm erect holding a dagger in pale. The spoons are fully hallmarked to the reverse. These fine examples of Victorian silverware are supported and displayed on the original circular stand ornamented with a simple moulded rim. The surface of the stand is fitted with eight original hallmarked egg cup securing pegs. And embellished with a bright cut engraved chief's crest belted(clansman's badge) depicting the same crest as the spoons, but in this instance the crest is encircled with a belt. The family motto'Fides Probata Coronat' Approved Faith Crowns- is incorporated within the belt. The stand retains the original detachable cylindrical carrying handle with a large ring style terminal. The fine chased decorated base of the handle has a lobed. Leaf style form which acts as an integrated receiver for the eight egg spoons. The stand is supported by four impressive scroll and bead decorated bracket style feet. Each foot accented with a chased decorated leaf motif. Full hallmarks are struck to the underside of the stand.
