ARCHITECTURE - Trinity Church - Boston, MASSACHUSETTS - Episcopal -UDB
Trinity Church- Boston. MASSACHUSETTS- Episcopal: Trinity Church in the City of Boston, located in the Back Bay of Boston, Massachusetts, is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. The congregation, currently standing at approximately 3,000 households, was founded in 1733. Four services are offered each Sunday, and weekday services are offered three times a week from September through June. Trinity is considered"Low Church" while continuing to be a Broad Church parish. After its former site on Summer Street burned in the Great Boston Fire of 1872, the current church complex was erected under the direction of Rector Phillips Brooks(1835–1893) one of the best-known and most charismatic preachers of his time. The church and parish house were designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and construction took place from 1872 to 1877, ... morewhen the complex was consecrated. Situated on Copley Square in Back Bay, Trinity Church is the building that established Richardson's reputation. It is the birthplace and archetype of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, characterized by a clay roof, polychromy, rough stone, heavy arches, and a massive tower. This style was soon adopted for a number of public buildings across the United States. This undivided back era(1901-07) postcard shows a tailored view of this iconic Boston church. The card is in good condition. c. 1905 by Metropolitan News Co. Boston. Powered by The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.

ILLINOIS Peotone Methodist Episcopal Church 1913 IL Real Photo postcard RPPC
This is a vintage REAL PHOTO postcard. Postally used, postmarked 1913 Image shows a view of: THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH. PEOTONE, ILL Card Photographer/Publisher: C R CHILDS The overall condition is as seen. Always check corners and edges for possible wear. As grading is subjective. Please look at scan for faults/defects. A postally unused card may have writing on the reverse HISTORY MATTERS! Snapshots of the Past. The vogue of lithographed cards caught Eastman-Kodak's attention. They issued an affordable"Folding Pocket Kodak" camera around 1906. This allowed the mass public to take black& white photographs and have them printed directly onto paper with postcard backs. Various other models of Kodak"postcard" cameras followed igniting a real photo postcard era. These cameras shared two neat features: their negatives ... morewere postcard size(the major reason why so many of these images are so clear) and they had a small thin door on the rear of their bodies that. When lifted, enabled the photographer to write an identifing caption or comment on the negative itself with an attached metal scribe. This is the reason that so many of the earlier photo cards are"one of a kind" Early on professional photographers capitalized on the new craze and themselves captured images that they printed on the processing papers that were being made available by a number of companies at the time. They advertised their ability to make as many copies as you liked from your negatives. As the decades passed and new technologies developed. It became even more common for commercial photographers to mass-produce and market these real photo postcards, which reached their zenith in the 1940's. The postcard view is now highly sought after by many institutions and individuals. As it serves as a historical record of the past. Be it the view of a town main street, the local church, school, roadside attraction or the countryside, the post card mirrors the way our parents, grandparents and even we, once lived. C

1913 Booklet re: Changing the Name of the PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF AMERICA
The Proposal to Change the Name of the Church Read by Leighton Parks in St. Bartholomew's Church. New York on Sunday Mornings April 6 and 13 1913 Here is a 29 page booklet in response to a proposal at the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States to change the title page of the Book of Protestant Common Prayer by striking the word Protestant. This is seen as an attempt to opening the door to changing the name of the church. Which is opposed by the author and the group of clergy who sent the response on to the US ruling Bishop. This booklet reflects the controversy that was pervasive in the Episcopal Church at the time. It sets out the argument of the more evangelical wing of the church(opposed to name change) very well. Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America" was the only official ... morename in use until 1964. In the 19th century. High Church members advocated changing the name. Which they felt did not acknowledge the church's Catholic heritage. They were opposed by the church's evangelical wing, which felt the"Protestant Episcopal" label accurately reflected the Reformed character of Anglicanism. After 1877, alternative names were regularly proposed and rejected by the General Convention. A commonly proposed alternative was"the American Catholic Church" By the 1960s, opposition to dropping the word"Protestant" had largely subsided. In a 1964 General Convention compromise, priests and lay delegates suggested adding a preamble to the church's constitution, recognizing"The Episcopal Church" as a lawful alternate designation while still retaining the earlier name. These views show an unaltered presentation of the life and times of the rapidly developing USA. By 1910 and through the 1940's. exchanging" views with contacts who started out as strangers, became very common place. The names and addresses of exchangers were freely passed around. Often times one will see messages on the reverse to the effect, Will you exchange cards with me? I like post offices(or whatever) With the magic of a post card take a trip down memory lane!
