Museum quality large Bertha Collar. Incredible artwork and craftsmanship! 23 inches across x 6 inches wide. App. 64 inches around outside edge. 33 inches around inside edge ~ please see photos of measuring tape for all measurements. Excellent condition: one flaw only- a very faint discoloration shown in last photo where the pencil is pointing. This is barely noticeable in normal lighting. I leave you with the contents of 5 boxes of antique lace from a country house in Northern England– a family collection dating back to the Victorian era- some beautiful antique costume items, Edwardian bedcovers, an extraordinary antique wedding tiara from Eastern France and more. Enjoy browsing, whilst I trawl the brocante markets of Western France in search of more treasure! From the collection of family lace I am listing this week.all Victorian and earlier lace. The last two images show the boxes when they arrived- most of the lace is listed this week. So do have a look at the other ... moreitems too if you love antique lace. This lot consists of two envelopes of handmade lace- I am lisitng these as found. One is marked"Real Mechlin Lace" and other"Old Lace Honiton Cap" The first envelope contains 11 short lengths(up to 30cm long) of 4 different types of Mechlin lace. The other contains a handmade Honiton lace cap. I have not laundered the lace, and there are some marks and some holes- so therese are really for study of for the collector of samples. A lovely hoard. I am including all the original hand written labels where possible. More photographs below PLEASE READ. I sell antique and vintage textiles and ephemera- unique items that have history. And may show signs of this- it is part of their charm. I try to describe any obvious faults as truthfully as I can. However, as most of my items are 100 years old, they will often bear the traces of a previous life. Please think carefully about bidding if you are looking for a pristine item that is as new. The cap of the veil is handmade Honiton lace with clothwork, meshwork and nice defined ornaments. The back portion of the cap has beautiful delicate needlelace fills. The veil portion is handmade tambour lace with dimentional flowers and beautiful ornaments on a mesh ground. Really fabulous! C. late 1800's- early 1900's. Excellent condition- No damage noted. Crafted from gossamer super fine cotton lawn ~ soft and silky ~it features simply stunning Honiton lace ~so delicate it is breathtakingly beautiful to look at. The centre piece is a pretty scalloped shape to which has been attached the lovely lace with its floral motifs forming a highly decorative border.
