SOLID BIRDS EYE MAPLE BOWL TURNED MAPLE SPINDLE LEGS Handmade bowl is about 13" to 13 1/2" diameter and 4" top to bottom. The bowl is about 5/8" thick. That is the flat surface shown on top edge of bowl. It stands about 23" tall overall The round thick ring above the three legs that hold spools is about 8 1/4" round and 1 3/4" thick. The dowel pegs are 3/8" and 4 1/2" tall. The post under bowl to top of lower spool ring is about 10 3/4" long. The three legs are about 7 1/2" long. Victorian 1875(?) (Marble?) Top Side Cabinet, Bedside Chest Nightstand poor cond
This may be earlier than the Victorian era, I'm just guessing on 1875. The poplar drawers harken back to an 1840-ish desk I sold two weeks ago that had similar dovetailing at the corners as well as a chamfered fit of the drawer bot. I want to say this prob had a marble top originally. I have a piece of marble(in 4th pic) but it needs to be cut to fit and is not part of this auction. The pine board top is not fastened down. The door panels are loose and not fastened down. There is no key to the lock in the RH door. There is no bezel on the keyhole but the lock. Is in place in rear of door. Door hinges are set securely and work smoothly, Doors close as they ought without binding. Drawer works smoothly. All joints/joining of wood appears to be tight(except for the loose front door panels) The nightstand is solid and not wobbly(except. For ... morethe fact that it's missing a rear'foot' see pic) There are no deep scratches or splintering or. Chipped out portions of the wood. If successful bidder would like the marble slab. I can sell for $25.00. I had the marble listed for sale awhile back on its own auction but it didn't sell. Fashioned in the Louis XVIth style. They have reeded legs, with the original castors, soft rounded reeded sides and rounded edges. The drawer fronts are embellished with lovely hand carved florals and rondels. Detailed florals figure on the metal knobs of both the drawers and doors. The drawers are very nicely dovetailed- a sign of quality craftmanship. Hand carved florals also figure on the four corners ... moreof the 2 doors. They retain the original bevelled marble tops which are a soft tannish/dessert sand( color with dramatic veining- would compliment many color palettes. These nightstands are in very good antique condition. The marble tops have no cracks or stains. There are a few tiny chips along the edges of both- barely discernible. There is some fading on the sides of the stands. The interiors of the cabinets retain the original white glass/enamel. There is cracking to the glass/enamel lining inside one cabinet and a line crack on the shelf of one cabinet(refer to photos) All that being said. These cabinets really are in wonderful condition, especially considering the age. They are very sturdy. The doors and drawers function easily. They were very well taken care of. Fashioned in the Louis XVIth style. They have reeded legs, with the original castors, soft rounded reeded sides and rounded edges. The drawer fronts are embellished with lovely hand carved florals and rondels. Detailed florals figure on the metal knobs of both the drawers and doors. The drawers are very nicely dovetailed- a sign of quality craftmanship. Hand carved florals also figure on the four corners ... moreof the 2 doors. They retain the original bevelled marble tops which are a soft tannish/dessert sand( color with dramatic veining- would compliment many color palettes. These nightstands are in very good antique condition. The marble tops have no cracks or stains. There are a few tiny chips along the edges of both- barely discernible. There is some fading on the sides of the stands. The interiors of the cabinets retain the original white glass/enamel. There is cracking to the glass/enamel lining inside one cabinet and a line crack on the shelf of one cabinet(refer to photos) All that being said. These cabinets really are in wonderful condition, especially considering the age. They are very sturdy. The doors and drawers function easily. They were very well taken care of. This is a very popular size wash stand. It measures 30" wide. 16" deep and about 27" high. The one drawer is in good shape and the only modern feature is the secondary catch for the outer door. As seen in my pictures. It was imported by Thonet Bros. of New York. Fascinating Austrian gent who was commissioned by a famous architect in the 1800s to redo the Baroque Palace in Vienna. At that time. Which was around 1850s, Thonet had stores in Chicago, New York and abroad. He imported fine furniture, both that he made and purchased abroad to send to N.Y. City, the heart of wealth during the Victorian era. Please see the sticker that was found under the marble top. Size of this table is 31" high. 28 1/4" wide and 14" deep. The marble top was made about 3/4" to overhang. There are no big cracks or pieces ... moremissing from the rose colored marble. Some wear and a small chip on the back edge that cannot be seen, but have to mention. Remember this table is very old. You will see pictures of the construction of joints. One joint was repaired a very long time ago and there is a small gap on the top different from the left front joint.HOWEVER.SOLID AND STURDY and does not take away from the structural or aesthetic integrity. Just leave it alone. The original locks are intact also. EXQUISITE MARQUETRY AND BORDERS. This is what Thonet was known for and commissioned for. In the Royal Baroque Palace. Vienna, his specialty was the inlay throughout, floors, furniture restoration, etc. He was an Austrian with impecable taste and talent. The rich and famous purchased his wares throughout the world. All the marquetry and veneers are intact except very minor chips on the bottom of the last drawer to the right(IF YOU CAN SEE IT? but I have to mention it. Up for sale is this very gorgeous walnut side cabinet. It has rectangular marble top with brass gallery and two drawers. Raised on fluted tapering legs joined by a rectangular stretcher shelf. The cabinet is heavily inlaid with brass accents. 82 X 40 X 30 cm This piece is in good antique condition with no looses to a brass. Made in middle of 19 century.
