Back in the mid 1960s I joined my first coin club. At our meetings we usually had a guest speaker. One of those speakers brought along his collection of coin postcards. What he did was try to get the coins that were pictured on the cards for his display. He was very successful and won quite a few awards for best of show at our New England coin club shows. I began to do the same thing and did quite well with my collecting. In my 70s now and most of the coins are sold. Still have some to go. But now I will sell my coin cards. They have embossed(raised) coins in color usually with the flag of the country. Most were printed in Germany and are quite hard to find in nice conditon. However the frame was no longer good, I removed it. The original tag was still stuck to the back of it. With one side folded over. On that folded side there is"11/15/74" with a name(hard to read) and"PD" The tag is slightly brittle. But still fully intact. This vintage ecru colored lace collar dates from the turn of the century or earlier. Appears to be needle Point De Venice floral pattern. With sculpt and padding, This is a treasure of late 19 th century fashionable lace accessory. The piece was worn as a neck adornment. The design is busy. But still is graceful. MEASUREMENT: 17-1/2" inside neck line edge. 10" deep at center. When laid flat. This pre-1900's lace collar measures 22" across at top, 23" at bottom and a bit over 23" top to bottom. Condition is very good. With old age oxidation storage stain as shown in photo, and this will come out with first washing. I do not see any broken brides. The collar has not been washed, and the material is strong, and the thread is moist and shows no dry rot. It has a beautiful fall and weight. Lone Star Venice Mandolin with case
This is a Lone Star"Venice" model A style mandolin. I have owned it for a couple of years and find it is just being ignored since I have too many other instruments to play. This mando has a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Solid cedar top and a beautiful rosewood/sycamore back. It comes with the original chipboard case. I have played this instrument and the action is easy and not too high. I play old time fiddle music so I know the left hand and while I am not much of a flat picker I enjoy this instrument and I think anyone looking for an inexpensive mando to get started playing or even an experienced picker wanting a travel instrument that is decent this one would work well and it is inexpensive. If you do some research on the Lone Star mandolins you will find that some needed to be set up properly by a luthier before they can ... morebe easily played. That isn't the case here as this one is sweet. Pretty back. Clean sides and only a little pick scuffing on the pick guard which probably would buff out. The strings were new when I put on 2 years ago and haven't been played much since so they look a bit dark but are certainly not dead. The chipboard case isn't much to write home about but is certainly better than a gig bag to carry to and from sessions. I will pack it in a cardboard box and I will also slacken the strings to take some tension off the bridge so you will have to spend a few minutes tuning of course. If the winning bidder wants me to leave it in tune. Which it is now I will certainly do so and then retuning will be quick.
