Cities and villages of Old Italy in the 1920s and 1930s. The photographer Kurt Hielscher travelled through Italien in the 1920s + 1930s and made over 8000 photos w/ premier photo equipment; his Zeiss Ikon/Ica camera and Zeiss objectives on Agfa Chromo Isorapid and Chromo Isolar plates and Isopan films. Some photos were taken with a Contax. This book in the new 1938 edition. Italy- Glass and Mosaic. The booklet measures 4-7/8" x 6-5/8" and has 24 pages + paper covers. The booklet has a photo of the factory in Milano and some history on the company. It reprints a few articles on the company and its works. There are a couple photos of mosaics of Columbus at the court of Spain and the Landing of Columbus. There is a photo of some enameled glassware(probably from the Expo exhibit) and there is a photo of the exterior of their exhibit and 1893 Expo. Italy, near the Bacino San Marco along the Riva Degli Schiavoni. In view are the Campanile bell tower, the Ducal palace and behind it, the domes of San Marco Cathedral are visible. No TV antennae visible in this ca. 1919-20 view! Beautiful sepia toned image. Sharp and clear. Measures approx. 5 3/8" by 3 1/2" standard) Unused and undivided/ a few light dotted lines for address/ CONDITION is very good with 2 corners showing faint signs of having been attached to an album with slip in tabs. Commissioned in mid-March 1919, she was one of many destroyers stationed at intervals across the Atlantic to support the May 1919 trans-oceanic flight of the Navy NC flying boats. In late June and July Cowell steamed across the Atlantic and into the Mediterranean Sea for a tour of duty in the Adriatic that lasted until late October 1919. For the next two and a half years, the destroyer operated periodically at sea on training service, but was mainly kept in East Coast ports in reserve status. She was placed out of commission in late June 1922 and laid up at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, where she remained for the next eighteen years. Cowell was recommissioned in mid-June 1940 for Neutrality Patrol service in the Atlantic. But had only three months of this employment before she was decommissioned at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and transferred to the British Navy.
