It is in its original cherry wood or walnut wood box. the key does not lock though. it is the right type but it does not work. the pat. date on the microscope is dec. 1st 1908. It is made of heavy cast iron with brass and comes with an antique case of 100 plus slides with old specimens still on them from the university of Chicago and you will not Believe what they are. just take a look at the numbered list on the inside lid of the slide case. this set came from the University of Chicago. The owner was a famous Illustrator named A.B. STREEDAIN, He was a world war 1 vet and a war illustrator for medical journals, if you search his name on the web you will see him in several books for his inside of the human body Illustrations.
