Antique / Vintage Arranged Microscope Slides - Diatoms, Spines and Shells
A set of three antique/ vintage arranged microscope slides. The slide shown on the left-hand side of the listing photograph appears to be made of some sort of light wood. With a green covering. Overall in very good condition, although there is a very slight curvature to the wood. Contains spines arranged in a star pattern. The middle slide was created by the renowned diatom arranger. K.D. Kemp, and dated 20/ 10/ 93. And titled"Exhibition Bird. Also indicates"Styrax" and"Diatomacea. The slide contains a remarkably tiny arrangement of what appear to be diatoms in the shape of a bird with its wings spread. Unfortunately I do not have the facilities to take a good, clear image, but tried to capture it in the listing photo. The bird is a bit challenging to locate at first. Antique Brass Microscope in Dove Tail Wood Case with Slides & Extras cir. 1900's
Photo gallery. Click to enlarge. DETAILS Antique Microscope Brass& Cast Iron in Dove Tail Wood Case with Slides& Extras This listing is for an antique microscope in a beautiful wooden case. This piece is not marked anywhere. So we're not certain who made it or when, but based on the materials used and the style, we're guessing this dates back to the early 1900's. This microscope features a cast iron base, brass upper and a cast aluminum center section. The microscope has one adjustable eye piece, a rotating dial that lets in differing amounts of light and and adjustable magnifying glass on the bottom. It comes in a beautiful wooden case(possibly mahogany) that has dovetail joint construction and is really nicely built. The case has two drawers that are packed with glass slides, an extra eye piece, glycerin for setting ... morethe slides and some tools. This is a great set that would look amazing as a piece of decor, or would be a great addition to any vintage medical instrument collection! Condition: This piece is antique and used with some wear. The microscope is hard to focus. But appears to be working as intended. It may need some slight adjustments to work perfectly, but we see magnified, lighted images when we can get it to focus a little. There is light wear to the housing with some light tarnishing on the brass. The case is in good condition, but the two drawers in the case appear to be replacements and not original. Please look closely at the photos for condition details and ask us any questions before bidding. Dimensions: The microscope itself measures 4-1/4" x 10-1/2" x 5" and the case measures 5-1/2" x 11-1/2" x 5" PLEASE NOTE- WE SHIP FEDEX WED-FRI. Of course, each specimen slide is labeled and still in great condition(one is broken in half, but still usable) They are housed in their original custom hardwood box, which(as you can see in the photo) opens and allows each of the 4 trays to easily slide out(every tray has 6 slots which can hold up to 3 slides each) The trays, as well as the box, are also still in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or major scratches(the box does show some staining and signs of wear-but after 120 years I guess I would too) The box is about 9.5" x 5" x 3" ... morePlease Note: As you may know. EBay now requires a shipping cost be entered when listing an item for international sale, and it is impossible to accurately do so without knowing the final destination. The price that I have entered is just a guess to cover the cost to anywhere in the world, and you will not be charged any more than that; however, if the actual shipping cost is less, then you will be issued a refund for the difference(we never add any extra for packaging or handling, so you will pay for the actual postage only) Fine Print: We invite questions. Prefer PayPal(although we will accept all other forms of payment) ship USPS twice a week, and offer a full money back guarantee(less shipping, which we try to keep close to, or just below, the actual postal charges) No, we're not a store, a dealer or even a collector; it's just time for us to get rid of some of this stuff. Shipping will be combined whenever possible. Any"cross-hatching" in the photo is from my crummy scanner, and not on the item itself. Thanks for your time.
