There are no cracks or chips to the brass that I can find ... moreand the microscope has retained much of its' original lacquering, however, there are some losses and tarnishing in places, as well as the usual scuffs, marks and scratches that you expect from a used item of this age. The draw tube mechanism moves up and down smoothly and the fine focus wheel works as it should. The stage adjustments work as they should. The double sided mirror has no cracks or chips, although there is a little foxing in places. The holder has been replaces at some point. There two objectives in their "Henry Crouch" cans, a prism in its' can, two eyepieces and an understage accessory. The microscope measures approximately 35 cm (13 3/4 inches) tall.

Tonight we have a RARE and ANTIQUE Circa 1800 Brass Folding Microscope/ Magnifier that would have been used by a Botanist or some one in the Entomology Field a couple Cenuries ago. The Single Lens Scope comes complete in it's ORIGINAL CASE, along with the pick/ spike that would hold the leaf or insect that was being studied. I can find no name on the scope to signify a maker; but the construction is excellent and the condition is the same- the Tea Stained handle is also great and free of any chips or cracks- It is also worth mentioning that it has a nice finial on the end of the handle. I have not tried to clean or polish the brass portion; keeping the wonderful patina it has attained over the years. The case is also in good solid condition; with ... morewear spots and a few chips to the outer portion as you would expect from a piece of scientific equipment that was used outdoors in the field. Delightful Antique Victorian Lacquered Brass Drum Microscope with Box
Delightful Antique Victorian Lacquered Brass Drum Microscope complete with wooden box ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ This small. Antique microscope was intended for travel and was typically used by students. It is often referred to as a drum or Martyn type microscope, after its inventor: Benjamin Martin. It consists of a simple cylinder which accommodates a tube and a small. Round platform. Slides are first placed onto the platform. A rotating mirror, below, is then angled to throw light onto the slide. The tube, which contains an eye and objective lens is then focused by moving the tube up and down within the cylinder. It dates from around the late 1800's and is made of brass with a lacquered finish. It stands approximately 15 cm tall and is in good order with no dents or dimples. The lens tube is gripped firmly by the surrounding cylinder. Both the ... morelenses are in good condition and offer bright optics. The mirror has some loss to the backing but it still throws plenty of light onto the slides. It comes complete with its original. Soft wood box. The box is nicely made with tongue and groove joints and brass butt hinges. A previous owner has etched their name into the lid; however, both its front hooks are present and both hinges are in excellent order. The wood has been wax polished and has a really nice patina. this is an amazing piece. From germany, circa 1840 the little drawer is hand done with very fine dovetails, its 99% complete from what I can see however I could be wrong as I am not an expert but this in looking at it makes it fantastic, very rare to see a set like this with all the pieces it includes, the box itseld is fantastic hardwodd, and old paper label on top needs removed original surface, paint loss on the scope itself, it appears mostly brass with black paint over, many little extra parts that I am not sure what they even are, fantastic Powered by The free listing tool. Description An Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on its Cast Iron Base and in its Hardwood Case. This comes with a pair of Brass Tweezers and two Slides, all of which I take to to be contemporary with the Microscope. I would date this to the late 19th/ early 20th Century. This does work very well as shown. T here is no dust or anything else detrimental to the view so the end result is that it focuses clearly. All the Lenses are in good order. including the internal ones which are all present) with very minor surface wear and with no cracks or major damage. The Manual Sliding Focus Section works well. The Mirror is in good order and moves freely. There are no dents or major damage to the Metalwork. Just normal signs of age and use as in some slight surface wear, patina and a few blemishes. There are no structural issues at all with this'Scope. ... moreAnything designed to move does so freely and its threaded components run cleanly and tighten well. The Wooden Case is structurally intact with some minor wear but with no significant damage. The Hook Catches work but are not particularly secure so I wouldn't lift it by the Lid. All the above is as shown as comprehensively as possible in the many pictures. Of the 4 good objectives and cans two are by Baker 1/4& 1/2 in, one is a 3 in by Wray and the other is unmarked but looks like a 3/8 in. There is a large sub stage rotating prism which has a fine crack top and bottom lenses( as shown)The bullseye stand lens is not the original which has damage, although that is available if required. One scarce object is the neutral lens glass reflector, which is a simple form of a Camera Lucida and slides on top of the eyepiece after the cover is removed. This quality late 1800's early 1900's brass microscope stands 365mm(14' high extended with the base measuring approximately 125mm(5' square and weighs 2.2kg including the mahogany carry case. It is unmarked as far as I can see and has an unusual design with the black glass disc for the slides to locate on and it has an ability to tilt at an angel to the base. Has a 16mm. 4mm, 1.9mm lenses, Includes a partially filled bottle of cedar oil, a blue lens, 2 eyepieces- 5& 10. Microscope stands 11 3/4. I don’t have any slides but light goes through. double sided mirror. Condition- everything seems to work as it is suppose to. Has been lightly cleaned. I didn’t find any missing or broken pieces. It will need a deep cleaning. I didn’t want to risk improper cleaning. Lenses have there cases. The case- when I found it, the box was locked with no key. After all attempts, I had to remove the back and some of the felted supports. It is missing the back of the box- I thought I had it but I can’t find it. Antique Bausch & Lomb Microscope Pat. Feb 16 1897 Brass 3 Lenses Cal University
The microscope was acquired by the University of Berkeley in 1910 and used in the Agriculture Dept. Antique Brass Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Microscope with 2 lenses. It measures about 11 1/2 inches high when adjusted all the way down. Marked on the back knob is Pat. Feb 16 1897. On the eyepiece lens top is 10. The eyepiece is in very good condition. Both sides of the bottom mirror look fine. There are some marks and scratches on the brass throughout but it looks pretty good. The part that turns and the lenses screw into has a black paint coating on top of the brass. The black is flaking off in spots. All the brass lens has"Bausch& Lomb Optical Co Rochester N.Y. U of CA AG 26" 16mm 0.25 N.A. 4mm and 1.9mm. The lenses need to be cleaned. The slide clips are ok, as is the deck(shows some wear) There is a triangle B-L Z S on ... morethe black cast iron bottom. Vintage Brass Doctors Working Field Microscope Civil War Era
Untitled Document Description Civil War Era antique brass working Doctors Field Microscope is a great item to own or give as a gift. The microscope itself is in beautiful condition with what I would consider signs of normal use with some small surface scratches on the outside which should buff out and a tarnished patina on the inner surfaces of the tube. These surface blemishes do not take away from the usefulness or desirability of the piece and most likely will disappear if professionally cleaned. There is a light“tuning reel” on the side that adjusts the light source for pin point brightness to a much broader range of light across the entire slide. There are multiple size openings to adjust the light source needed accordingly. It is this small wheel/coin looking thing located on the side just below where the slides are placed. This brass ... moretuning wheel is what makes this a working Doctors field microscope. And not a simple student version. Plus there is an extra screw on the shaft that allows the doctor to secure the microscope to the desired height and keep it there without it slipping. A must have accessory when working long hours in the medical field with this type of microscope. The mirror reflects nicely. But could use a good polishing. The magnifying lenses have no cracks, but have some surface scratches, and needs professional cleaning. Also included is an extra wooden encased magnifier lens. This extra lens would have given the doctor a better look at any given tissue sample placed on a slide. This lens shows signs of field use with surface scratches on the lens that might polish out nicely. The case has a sizable crack running nearly the length of the lid and is not fully secure. But still has integrity. This working Civil War Era Doctors Field Microscope is a really awesome museum quality item all the way around! Quite large for a microscope of this age it measures approx 17 3/4" max height by 7 1/2" deep& the box is 10 1/2" tall, 9 1/4" wide& just over 7" deep.It comes with an old tin full of clean glass slides of the same age aswell. A rare and striking microscope design from Pillischer of London. Of which there would appear to be very few surviving examples. The mechanical parts and optics are all in fine condition and in good working order. At some point the lacquer has been completely removed. It is serial No 4893 which dates production of this microscope to the first half of 1909. I am not an expert on microscopes so please ask questions before bidding! Both the knobs turn smoothly and the mirror is intact with no cracks. It is mainly solid brass construction. With the base and working platform being brass as well. I can see no damaged or missing parts. It has a beautiful aged patina. It comes in the original hardwood case with extra lenses. The key is also included. I believe this is a late 19th Century microscope. The only number on it is"63" on the outside of both feet. It weights about 4lbs. 8 ozs. and is 10 1/2" tall when compressed. All parts seem to be working. I am out of my area of expertise but I did a little research and found that Spencer Lens Company microscopes with serial numbers up to 10.000 had an approximate date of shipment of June of 1909. That would make this microscope 105 years old or older. The microscope has two objective lenses. One is marked 4mm NA066. The other is marked 16mm NAP.0.25. Both are marked Spencer Lens Co. The microscope seems to work and be in good condition for its age. When you look through the microscope you can see a couple small crooked lines. I don't know if these are cracks or dirt. The finish is worn. I do not understand why Brass has a brass finish. There are no case or other attachments. If you have any questions I will try to answer them.
