Favorite Things is delighted to welcome you to our Ebay Auction. I always try and provide unique collectibles that expand your imagination. Enjoy our ... moreauction and come back soon. Offered is an Unmarked French Antique Lacquered Brass Field Drum Microscope from ca1850's. Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research with you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. The only difference is the bull's eye lens on a moveable arm is put in a different. 4. Als

NOTE: For more details on the history of the C. Reichert optical firm. Please see below. This model microscope is one of the earliest stands manufactured by the Reichert firm. It very closely resembles a similar model manufactured by E. Leitz. Wetzlar. In fact, it bears the same Stativ(Stand) number as the similar instrument offered by Leitz. It is a relatively simple design that was originally intended for use in schools and universities where budgets for scientific instruments were often tight. Accompanying this listing is an illustration of this same model microscope extracted from my personal collection copy of Reichert’s “ Catalogue S/12: Microscopes& Accessories ” that was issued in the year 1900. The similarities to the listed instrument are readily apparent. This C. Reichert Stativ V microscope will make a very nice addition to any microscope collection. No Reserve Antique SIGNED Microscope Brass, Silk Candle-Shade - Est. 1700/1800's
Offered is a unique. Very rare and remarkably well preserved English antique lacquered brass microscope candle holder and shade in a lovely shagreen case. Once assembled. The shade can be adjusted via the telescoping base into the required position to provide light to the microscope and protect the user from the glare of the flame. I would estimate this as dating somewhere between the late 1700’s to early 1800’s. Although I cannot say with certainty as it is challenging to pinpoint so please make your own judgement as well regarding age. As a wonderful bonus. This also has a beautifully written signature on the bottom of the stand. Which states“ B. Barth. London. This lovely item consists of five pieces(case. Telescoping base, shade, base attachment and candle holder) The“X” shaped stand of the base folds. And the telescoping arm extends. ... moreTo lock the telescoping arm in place. The candle holder needs to be attached otherwise it slides back down(likely how it was designed) The thin cylinder serves as the joining piece between the telescoping base and the shade. Other than the stand. All the pieces fit well into the case, which has a nice lining. As can be expected with thin telescoping attachments. The fully assembled piece is not perfectly rigid; however, it stands nicely with only a marginal tilt between the two telescoping sections(again, just likely how it was designed) The case opens and closes by gently pushing the notch on the front and flipping it open and closed with your thumb. The shade/ fan is original and appears to be made of silk or similar material. As shown in the pictures. It has some wear commensurate with age and careful use, as well as some tears; however. It is amazingly well preserved for its age. It still folds in and out very nicely. But, of course, it is very old so you have to show care. Fully assembled and extended. It measures approximately 50 centimetres tall(approximately 20 inches) Again. Overall, the set is in very nice condition. There is some wear to the lacquer a

Please take the time to view all of the images to confirm what you will be getting if you win it. This is a very well preserved. Beautiful and fully functional microscope. The brass is in excellent condition and it still maintains is excellent lacquer finish, fine polish and honey gold shade with only a few minor dings and scratches. The are excellent with no evidence of scratches. Fogging, fungus, delamination or other defects. The single sided convex ... moremirror under the stage is in very good condition with only minor age spots. The dovetailed Mahogany case is in relatively good condition. But has some exterior scratches from handling over the years. There is a lock, but, unfortunately, the key is missing. SHIPPING The microscope will be shipped promptly after receiving cleared payment. Insured and with tracking number. Please note, s hipping will be made by express mailing service(EMS) Hence it is expected to arrive within five working days. HOWEVER. Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo, NY Brass and Cast Extra Lenses & Case NYU
Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo. NY Brass and Cast with Extra Lenses and Case from NYU? Great example of an early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo. NY that I recently picked up at an estate sale. Still has a great look to it. Came in a nice wood framed case that the outside material is worn or coming off of. Case is still all intact, with carrying handle, hinges, and door. No key comes with the case. Serial number of 69870 is on the microscope. Site I looked up on the internet says this piece is from 1920 to 1921. The 3 turret microscope has a 10 mag lens at top and then the 10x. 44x and 95x lenses at the bottom. There is also a 6X and 5X mag lens for the top of the microscope in the case. The three lower lenses were in their metal cases still in the box originally. The mirror below that seems to be intact as well. I do not see where ... moreany of the lenses on the microscope are visibly cracked or missing the glass lens, certainly are dirty, so you would be buying this piece as is. But certainly no expert in microscopes, so you are buying as is. Ask any questions or request any pictures of items that are important to you before buying this piece. There is also some sort of metal attachment for the scope that is in its' own little case and marked Spencer Lens Co. that has a latch on it. What is really unique about this piece is the horizontal and vertical measuring device that is on the plate the glass slides lay on. The measuring device slide moves side to side with the screw that moves it. The one that moves the other scale top to bottom either needs adjustment or the screw is stripped. On the bottom. The piece is marked LV and then NYU, so presume this piece was once used at New York University. Mirror on bottom reflector piece is still there on both sides, but shows a lot of wear and tear. The brass components on the scope still look pretty good. There is some corrosion/rust on the cast metal part of the microscope. Most notably on the rear top of the base. The main plate the glass slide would lay on ap

This is one of the more rare Bausch& Lomb American Type microscope models. It was only manufactured over just a brief 3-year period from 1889 to 1891. The featured instrument is very similar in design to the B&L“The Model” microscope. But it lacks the rack and pinion focus mechanism and is built upon a horseshoe shaped foot with rectangular pillars instead of the“Y”shaped foot with round pillars that characterized“The Model. Fortunately, the Cherry wood case that accompanies this instrument has the serial number stamped into the front floor of the case(see close-up image) The serial number“6890” dates the instrument to the year 1889, which plac

The Bausch& Lomb Optical Company produced this model microscope from 1884 to 1896. It is one of the largest microscopes produced by the firm during this time frame– second only in size and complexity to the“Professional” Model(NOTE: Please see the accompanying image comparing the size of the instrument with a standard bottle of wine– this microscope is about a third taller! The"Universal" Model was very similar to the"Investigator" model also offered by B&L, but with a more elaborate substage assembly and a wider diameter body tube. This microscope bears the name of the manufacturer on the rear of the brass stage of the instrument. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co” see close-up image) However, the instrument does not bear a serial number. For some odd reason, Bausch& Lomb did not engrave serial numbers on their earlier microscopes. Instead, they would place the serial number on the front lip of the floor of the wood case that normally accompanied the microscope. In this particular situation, we do not have the wood case that normally came with the instrument t

BAUSCH & LOMB # 20727 BRASS( mostly) microscope OMO assessories & unusual ???
This older B& L microscope( 20727) stands apx. 12 inches tall when in the turned down position. It is all brass EXCEPT the base. I am not sure what the chrome- metal extension that comes out of the side is made of. As you can see in the pictures there is some paint loss on the base with a few rust spots where the black coating has been chipped off at some point. It looks like the clips that would have held down the slid is no longer present( missing) There is also some green corrosion near the base of the vertical adjustment on the back side. The up and down function works fine but the knob on the back adjustment wont turn and I didn't want to force it or use and penetrating oil since my knowledge of microscopes is very limited. The silver metal piece that is horizontal to the rest of the microscope is marked ELETZ WETZIAR then Germany ... morein smaller letters. It looks like there might be a portion of the end of that piece that MAY be missing but I am not sure. The pieces in the plastic- Bakelite? box seem to have little if any use. Most were still wrapped in the original paper and seem to be good shape. Again. My knowledge of microscopes is very limited so please ask if there are ANY questions prior to bidding.

Vnt Antique Bausch & Lomb Optical Co Brass Metal Slide Microscope Rochester N. Y
For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique brass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has ... morea round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

ANTIQUE BRASS MAGNIFYING GLASS 1900 microscope spectacles quizzing
ANTIQUE BRASS MAGNIFYING GLASS 1900 microscope spectacles quizzing This is a great ANTIQUE BRASS FRAMED MAGNIFYING GLASS In my estimation it dates from around the late 19th Century. It is in good original condition with light wear consistent with its great age. And a scrubbed patch in the centre of the glass, but no damage or repairs. This is a superb great fine example of its type and it would make a great addition to any collection. Please see the photos for condition and type. There is no reserve

Huge Antique "ROSS " Microscope – 1849 – No. 382 - Early Bar-Limb - Brass-Copper
I am pleased to present this lovely solid brass and copper microscope by the highly sought-after maker(Andrew Ross) Who was responsible for the invention of this very Bar-Limb design in 1843, which was imitated by English and American microscope-makers throughout the 19th century. The microscope presented here is an example of the very early production(Marked No. 382) Likely approximately 1849. At over 21 inches tall(in the position pictured) and over 20 pounds when packaged. It is a behemoth compared to other microscopes. At approximately 3.5 inches. The mirror is uniquely, extra large(bigger than a tennis ball) Note that I included a smaller microscope(and other items) for scale reference purposes, these are not included in the sale Ross instruments of this size are rare and prized; you will find some of them in different collections or. ... moreOnce in a while, they will be offered at auction. This particular microscope was removed from The Steinway Mansion. Which is a historic home located on a one acre hilltop in Astoria, Queens, New York City. It was built in 1858, originally on 440 acres on the Long Island Sound, by Benjamin Pike, jr. born in 1809, a noted manufacturer of scientific instruments located in lower Manhattan. After his death in 1864, his widow sold the Mansion to William Steinway of Steinway& Sons in 1870(very famous Piano builders) The microscope is supported on a Y shaped base. Also pioneered by Ross, having two flat uprights terminating at the pivot point, above which adjustment knobs for the tube and stage. The stage can be adjusted from side to side via a knob, and upwards and downwards by sliding via hand. I have tried to capture every angle of this item, which forms part of the condition description so please review them carefully. Please note the following points, which may be a bit roundabout, but am trying to capture as much as I can based on what I see: 1. A few screws are missing. But they might be replaced if looking to restore. Particularly, there are tube adjustment k

The Bausch& Lomb Optical Company of Rochester. New York manufactured this microscope for the Philadelphia based scientific supply company of James W. Queen& Co. Due to the fact that Queen& Co. was the distributor of the instrument. The microscope is signed in block letters on the rear of the stage, JAS. W. QUEEN& CO. Antique Microscope Lens Brass Canister Spencer Lens Co Buffalo NY Early 1900s?
Offered here with no hidden reserve a Spencer Lens Co. microscope lens(I believe this is called an objective) in a brass canister. The canister is marked 16MM and has been expertly machined to house the lens it contains so that the glass at the end of the lens does not come in to contact with the bottom of the canister. The lens itself is marked Spencer Lens Co 41929. 4MMN AP.0.75. I would describe the condition of the piece as far as appearance goes as very good with expected fine scratches and nice patina. I have no way of knowing if the lens glass itself is functional but it appears to be unblemished. The overall approximate dimensions of the canister are: height- 1 3/4" diameter 1" top, 7/8" bottom. Please examine pictures and contact with any questions. Returns accepted within 3 days of receipt/inspection. Thanks for your ... moreinterest.

Much better than your average flip over thread counter offered on ebay. This has a second riveted back plate that works as a sprung loaded locking sysytem for the scope and base plate, the purpose of a thread counter was as a small scope used by inspectors(lookers) in the rag trade to count the number of threads in a certain area. Antique brass folding Bausch & Lomb portable microscope model BHP, full set
Offered for auction is a fine Bausch& Lomb portable microscope Model BHP S.N. 74484. Dating to 1908. This full research microscope is housed compactly in a 29 x 19 x 8 cm mahogany carrying case. It sets up by simply spreading the hinged base. Then swinging the stage 90 0 and locking it into place. The profile of this instrument features an integrated"jug handle" cut into the squared off limb. A design that became popular among some producers between ca. 1900 and 1920. This B&L"Portable Microscope Model BHP" has all the features and rigidity of their research stands. But in a convenient traveling form. Not many of these microscopes were produced, because their price was over two times the price of a regular B&L Model BH desk-top microscope. Reference: The Billings Collection catalogue: P. 127 No. AFIP 49447; ... morep. 118. Fig. 223. The original optics that come with this microscope are all signed by Carl Zeiss. The set even has the original Eder immesion oil in an original bottle fitting a special slot inside the case. The case is complete. The inner and outer condition is very good. The original brass lock is completely functional but the original key was missing when I bought the set. However, the microscope will be supplied with a modern fitted key that enables safe locking and unlocking of the case. This is an extremely well-preserved set of an early scientific instrument. Produced by one of the most respected American maker with optic made by the best German maker of the time. During the early 20th century, B&L and Carl Zeiss formed a partnership hence the combined features of this microscope. This is a rare item in excellent condition that will suit every serious collection. I list it with low starting bid and no reserve. Please note: This is a private listing. I will not sell it outside eBay. Please don't address me with such requests. Please note: The accompanying array of images of the microscope and its Mahogany case taken from various angles are a part of this statement
