Vintage Old Antique Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo, NY U.S.A. Brass and Cast
Up for auction. Is a great example of a Vintage Antique early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo, NY, U.S.A. that I recently picked up. It has a wonderful patina, aged look to it. The serial number on this microscope is 67927. According to my research. That serial number places the Manufacturing date sometime between June 23, 1920 and May 23, 1921. This microscope is even OLDER than one that just recently sold for about $400. Both of the brass knobs turn and the mirror is intact. With"no cracks" It could use a cleaning if you prefer the polished look, but I know some collectors prefer the aged natural look, so it has been left untouched. I am no expert in microscopes. So if you have any questions or would like to request any pictures of specific areas on the microscope that are important to you before buying this piece, please ... morefeel free to message me and ask whatever you like and I will do my best to answer any questions you have, but odds are you probably know more about it than I do. LOL Thanks for looking Good luck and Happy Bidding: A General Note to all potential Bidders and Buyers: All sales are absolutely. Positively 100% final. All Sales and all my listings are sold and auctioned in"AS IS" condition and you are buying it"AS IS" I do not warrantee anything and I do not guarantee anything. The microscope dates from circa 1885. But the electronics and lamp components are modern. There is an inventory plaque affixed to the side of one of the tripod feet of this ... moreinstrument that indicates that it was once the property of the IBM Corporation(see close-up image) So. In the not too distant past, this unique microscope lamp must have graced the desk of one of executives of that famous US Corporation and is now available for purchase here. A little bit of history and background information on this microscope will hopefully be of interest: The Bausch& Lomb Optical Company produced the“Universal” Model microscope from 1884 to 1896. It is one of the largest microscopes produced by the firm during that late 19th Century time frame– second only in size and complexity to their“Professional” Model. Antique microscope collectors will note that the"Universal" Model is very similar to the"Investigator" model also offered by B&L. However. The“Universal” model was a much larger instrument with a more elaborate substage assembly, a wider diameter body tube and a double drawtube. B&L produced three(3) slightly different versions of this model microscope: From 1884 to 1891. This model had a rotating disc of apertures in the substage(version 1) From 1892 to 1895, this model was upgraded with an Abbe condenser with slide-in f

RARE 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE LARGE LACQUERED BRASS SOLAR MICROSCOPE
FROM THE MINIMAL RESEARCH I HAVE CARRIED OUT ON THIS RARE SOLAR MICROSCOPE I WOULD SUGGEST IT DATES TO THE MID 19TH CENTURY. MEASURING IN TOTAL 15.5 INCHES TALL THE LARGE CIRCULAR BASE SECTION HAS A DIAMETER OF 5.5 INCHES. THE LARGE LENS WHICH APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION MEASURES 4 INCHES IN DIAMETER. IT HAS THE ODD MARK BUT I THINK NOTHING TOO SERIOUS. I HAVE ALSO IMAGED THE OTHER LENSES ON THE MICROSCOPE AND THESE ALSO APPEAR TO BE OK. THE MAIN BODY IS BRASS WHICH HAS MOST OF THE ORIGINAL LACQUER WHICH HAS DISCOLORED IN PLACES AS SHOWN. I HAVE LEFT IT UNTOUCHED AND WHAT YOU SEE IN THE IMAGES IS WHAT IS FOR SALE. USED I BELIEVE WITH A PLATE TO WHICH A MIRROR WAS ATTACHED IT WOULD PROJECT LARGE IMAGES OF MICROSCOPE SLIDES ONTO A WALL OR SCREEN USUALLY FOR ILLUSTRATORS OF SCIENTIFIC BOOKS. IT IS BEAUTIFULLY MADE AND THE RATCHET MECHANISMS ... moreARE WONDERFULLY SMOOTH. IT UNSCREWS INTO PARTS AGAIN VERY SMOOTHLY WITH GREAT SCREW THREADS. IT APPEARS TO BE A LARGE EXAMPLE COMPARED WITH OTHER EXAMPLES I HAVE SEEN THE ONLY MARK WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE IS A MAKERS MARK IS SHOWN IN THE IMAGES I CANNOT FIND ANY MAKERS MARK. PLEASE WAIT TO BE INVOICED BEFORE PAYING IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO ADD INSURANCE TO THE POSTAGE COSTS DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT THE ITEM SELLS FOR. FOR EXAMPLE IF AN ITEM PURCHASED OUTSIDE THE UK SELLS FOR MORE THAN £50.00. THE EXTRA WILL USUALLY BE AROUND £2.50. PLEASE ALSO BE AWARE BOTH PAYPAL AND EBAY CHARGE COMMISSION ON THE POSTAGE ELEMENT OF YOUR INVOICE TOTALING 14% IN TOTAL. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN COMPARING ACTUAL POSTAGE TO THAT CHARGED. I WILL REFUND THROUGH PAYPAL ANY SIGNIFICANT OVERCHARGE IN POSTAGE. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK. This microscope is brass& iron comes with wooden box. It measures 8 1/2" tall down and 9 1/2" high extended. The base measures 4" by 2 3/4" I think the scope part is brass as a magnet will not stick but it does show some finish loss. The base is iron with a gold finish. It seems to work but the lens needs cleaning. The only markings are a number 160 on the back of the brass knob. I think this is French but not sure.

Antique brass microscope, ca. 1860, signed E. Hartnack suc. de G. Oberhauser
Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is an antique generic Oberhauser-type achromatic microscope. Incomplete(missing the case) by Edmund Hartnack and George Oberhauser. Dating to ~1860. Short company history: Johann Georg Oberhaeuser(1798-1868) was born in Ansbach in Middle Franconia. Germany. Oberhaeuser attended high school in his hometown with the intent of becoming an engineer. However, due to the premature death of his father in 1812, he was forced to become an apprentice mechanic at the University in Wurzburg in order to support himself. After his teacher died in 1816, Oberhaeuser moved to Paris, where he became a mechanic’s assistant. While in Paris, he came in contact with the opticians Trecourt and Bouquet. In 1830 they started a three-way partnership ... moreat 19 Place Dauphine, Paris. In 1835 Bouquet departed, leaving Oberhaeuser and Trecourt to do business together. They introduced this new microscope in 1837 and very quickly they earned a good reputation for producing affordable and solid instruments with excellent achromatic lenses. In 1854, Oberhaeuser invited Edmund Hartnack(1826– 1891) to work as an apprentice in his his workshop. Hartnack, of Prussian origin, married Oberhauser's daughter(but Oberhauser was NOT his uncle as some references state erroneously) By the year 1857, Hartnack had become a full partner in the business. This microscope, signed E. Hartnack sucr. de G. Oberhaeuser, Place Dauphine 21 Paris. Is post this year, after which the signatures changed. Oberhauser advanced the drum microscope, invented by Benjamin Martin 100 years earlier, to perfection, being cheap but optically excellent. This drum“microscope d’hospices” was made by Oberhaeuser& Hartnack for hospital use. It was one of the microscope models which served in the Confederate field hospitals during the USA Civil War(while the Union used the army microscope made by Zentmeyer) About this microscope: Condition is good but the I'm not

Vtg Brass Heavy Bausch & Lomb Yale Microscope w/ Locked wooden storage box
This is a very interesting older microscope. It reads Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, NY, YALE. It does not have the reflective mirror below which is most common in microscopes but rather it has a open and close light feature.much like the shutter on a camera. I believe this must have been a research microscope for a classroom, perhaps at Yale? The box has gold color markings on it which read Room 19 Z31. It seems to be in excellent condition with the exception of a few minor surface scratches. I see some brass on this microscope and the entire piece may be out of brass and coated in black because it is tremendously heavy. This scope weighs 10 pounds. 8 ounces. The grooved box is in fine condition as well and comes with an extra lens and has the original screw which keeps the scope secure in the box. The model or serial number on ... morethe scope is 252507 and I can't find this model anywhere. When I look through it. I don't see any cracks or anything damaged through the lens. I don't know much about telescopes but it appears to all be in functioning order. The scope measures 15" tall when the lens is all the way up, when it is down it measures 13" high. I hope this description is helpful. Thank you so much for shopping with me. Please feel free to write with any questions and best of luck in Bidding and of course.WINNING! I sell USED and UNIQUE items. Expect minor evidence of use or imperfections. Dings etc. from age. I take many photos of our items to help with the description as every detail may not be caught. Rare Antique MINIATURE BRASS FIELD MICROSCOPE Old Scientific Instrument
I am listing a variety of nice estate-fresh Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is an ANTIQUE MINIATURE BRASS FIELD OR TRAVELING TYPE MICROSCOPE. As you see it as found in estate. No box. I know very little about this piece. But looks to be at least 100 years old to me. I don't know if it is supposed to have a lens glass at the top or not, but microscope presently magnifies clearly and well(see photo samples of magnified $1 bill) Bottom mirror in good clean condition and swivels fine. The top section of microscope slightly leans back a bit. Don't know if made that way or bent slightly but doesn't seem to affect function. Charming little antique Microscope. Antique brass microscope calibrated iris slider thingy - a little beauty!
THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE BIDDING FOR: Here's a gorgeous little calibrated iris diaphragm thingy on a finely calibrated slider thingy. No maker's name, but marked for Germany. I'm assuming it has something to do with controlling and centering microscope condenser illumination, and I'm further guessing it's 1900-1920's vintage, but the one thing I know for sure is that it's VERY well constructed, with nicely enameled and polished brass throughout. Look at the pics below.it's definitely a little beauty, and I have a feeling it's a fairly rare microscope accessory! ANTIQUE VERY RARE BRASS AQUARIUM MICROSCOPE, 1860's
I bought this antique aquarium microscope about 18 months ago from Professor Yuval Goren of the Tel Aviv University who is a collector of antique microscopes. I bought this to go along with my antique aquarium collection but since I have sold nearly all of them I no longer need/want this microscope to go along with the collection. Prof. Goren is a well respected professor of archaeology in Israel and sells some of the antique microscopes from his collection from time to time. Here is your chance to own one of these rare aquarium microscopes. It was also available with a sucker joint which I've included an illustration. I will also include the original description by Prof. Goren of the microscope: Offered for auction is an extremely rare brass. Iron and wood aquarium microscope, made by Collins of London, dating to the second half of the ... more19 th century. The microscope is attached to an attractive stand made of cast iron with a wooden handle and an attractive Y-shaped base in the form of dog's legs. The microscope is connected by a compass joint to a brass pole that slides into a holder attached to the stand. However. This micoscope is known to be connected also to a sucker joint that can be connected to the glass of an aquarium, as seen in the engraving(not included in this listing) copied from the Journal of the Royal Microscopic Society of 1882. Though the microscope is unsigned, according to this reference it was made by C. Collins of 77 Great Titchfield Street, London(1860s) The company moved in 1875 to 157 Great Portland Street in London. The company was closed in ca. 1890. Aquarium microscopes were used to observe aquatic organisms in an aquarium. Magnifications can be changed by a draw tube. Untypically connected to the objective(rather than the eyepiece) side of the tube. The microscope is in very good optical and cosmetic condition for the age. The brass is only lightly stained. The optics are in excellent condition and the microscope provides surprisingly high quality images. In all, this is a ver
Nice Antique BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO. BRASS MICROSCOPE #29928 Instrument w BOX
I will be listing a variety of nice estate-fresh Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is a Nice ANTIQUE BAUSCH& LOMB OPTICAL CO. BRASS MICROSCOPE with WOODEN CASE. It is Serial#22928. Probably c.Late-1890's vintage. The microscope has a Patent Date of Feb. 16. 1897 on it. The microscope is in working condition. The 2 lower magnification lenses seem to magnify and focus objects fine, but I couldn't get the highest power lens to focus. Not sure why- maybe I just don't know how to properly operate machine. I know little about microscopes in general myself. Microscope looks to have it's original finish on surface. Bottom double-sided reflective mirror in good condition. The iris mechanism in the assembly above mirror opens and closes fine. The three objective lenses on microscope are Bausch& Lomb lenses. Microscope ... morewas found in this antique wooden case which has old and worn ebonized patina on exterior surface. There are no extra lenses in the box but has three empty Spencer storage tubes for lenses found in the storage racks. antique JOHN BROWNING London BRASS Prism SPECTROSCOPE Microscope ca. 1900
An antique Brass Prism Spectroscope by John Browning of London. I must say that I am a bit out of my league and am not exactly sure what type of Spectroscope this is. The cosmetic condition is very nice and all original. There is no evidence of wear to the varnish and the brass has a nice goldish warm tone to it. When looking tru the lens I can see the prism rainbow and an etched number scale. The view is clear and crisp. It is signed: JOHN BROWNING. 146 STRAND, LONDON. There are two caps included but the larger one has two cracks on the sides and therefore does not fit tightly enough to stay in place and the smaller cap seems to be a tad to small to fit. But they came with the Spectroscope, so they are included in the listing. The leather case shows wear and the closure is damaged. Spectroscope measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/8" Thank you ... morefor considering this listing. Shipping to PAYPAL CONFIRMED address ONLY. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING via USPS PRIORITY mail OR EXPRESS only. Spencer Microscope w/ Brass & Original Carrying Case
Charles A. Spencer is known as America's first microscope maker. He was born in 1813. In Madison county, NY, in what would later become Canastota. In 1838, he had an ad printed, announcing himself to be a maker of microscopes and telescopes, including Dr. Goring's Engiscope(a reflecting microscope similar to Amici's) By 1840, he published a catalog listing numerous microscopes, reflecting telescopes, and other instruments. Spencer is thought to have made the first American achromatic objective, and, by the late 1840's had acquired a reputation for his excellent quality objectives of great angle of aperture. In 1854, Spencer was joined in business by E.K. Eaton. Several catalogs are known published under the name"Spencer& Eaton. Microscopes made by Spencer in the 1840's, signed"C.A. H. Spencer refer to Charles' ... morecousin, Hamilton, not his son, Herbert. Herbert R. Spencer worked in his father's shop and became a partner after Eaton left the business, around 1865. Until 1875, the instruments were marked"C.A. Spencer& Sons, Canastota" In 1875, the Spencers moved to Geneva, NY, to build microscopes for the Geneva Optical Co. During the next three years, their instruments were marked, C.A. Spencer& Sons for Geneva Optical Company" In 1877, this association was terminated and their stands were marked, C.A. Spencer& Sons, Geneva. Charles A. Spencer died in 1881. Our microscope comes with 2 lenses and one unknown metal piece. See pictures) Small repairable dent where the lens goes in. See picture) There is no key for the door lock on the wooden carrying case. I encourage you to look at the photos and ask any questions you might have before buying. Pictures are part of the description. The microscope does work as intended.

This instrument comes in a nice dovetailed Mahogany case with a set of accessories. This instrument’s manufacturer is not identified and there is no serial number. However. It clearly reflects the Andrew Ross pattern bar limb design with the “Y” shaped flat tripod foot, which Ross first introduced in the year 1843. Its relatively ... moresimple design dates it from the early to middle 19th Century – circa 1850. This simple bar-limb design was most likely offered as a student or educational microscope. It was a very popular design in the mid-1800s and was produced by several English microscope manufacturers including Baker, Negretti and Zambra, Newton& Co. and others. This instrument is incomplete as it obviously is missing the body tube that would be designed to be screwed into the threads found inside the hole at the end of the bar limb. Therefore. It is being offered for parts or repair. DETAILED DESCRIPTION: The microscope is mounted on a Mahogany wood base called a “plinth.” The plinth allows the instrument to be slid into the wood case to be firmly held by a wood restraint bar that is attached to the inside of the wood case. A Japanned black solid brass “Y” shaped flat tripod foot holds a pair of stout nicely sculpted brass side plates or trunnion plates that rise to a trunnion joint. The trunnion joint captures and support a brass stage and the rest of the instrument. The trunnion joint allows the instrument to be inclined to various angles from the vertical for the comfortable viewing of slides mo

Microscope VTG 1908 B & L Bausch & Lomb Optical Co Brass Metal Slide N. Y
For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique brass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has ... morea round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

BAUSCH & LOMB 1899 ANTIQUE BRASS MICROSCOPE # 31580 AUGUST WAELDIN NY MCV
Welcome to TIMEPATINA! No Reserve Auction Bausch& Lomb traces its roots to 1853. When John Jacob Bausch, a German immigrant, set up a tiny optical goods shop in Rochester, New York. When he needed more money to keep the business going, Bausch borrowed $60 from his good friend, Henry Lomb. Bausch promised that if the business grew, Lomb would be made a full partner. The business did grow and the partnership was formed. In the early years, Bausch + Lomb manufactured revolutionary rubber eyeglass frames as well as a variety of optical products that required a high degree of manufacturing precision. By 1903, the firm had been issued patents for microscopes, binoculars, and even a camera shutter based on the eye’s reaction to light. In the 1900’s, Bausch + Lomb continued to demonstrate its place at the forefront of technological innovation ... morefor optical products. Bausch + Lomb produced the first optical quality glass made in America, developed ground-breaking sunglasses for the military in World War I, and created the lenses used on the cameras that took the first satellite pictures of the moon.
