You are bidding on: RARE Vintage English Brass Traveling Microscope with Glass Slide containing a specimen of human skin! Still in its original wooden ... moreBox! An antique student or traveling drum microscope dating from the late Victorian or Edwardian era. And with its original box. Very popular with students and gentleman of leisure in Victorian times after the publication of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species. Overnight. Everyone wanted to become a backyard"naturalist" and these little microscopes made it possible for specimens to be examined in the field or at home take a look at the original human skin specimen on the glass slide found in its own compartment. The microscope is brass with a lacquered gilt finish. There is just a bit of light wear. This patina is something we like to see as is indicative of its age. The mirror is original and works well. Bought in the 1980s from Portobello Antiques Market in England and left in the box since. To use. Move the eyepiece(main body tube) up and down on the base stand. The instrument is in original uncleaned condition with a nice patina and appears to be in working order. I have not been able to find a makers mark. It is a great little microscope. use it as intended or as an interesting display piece, or a great addition to a collection. Great value- Sold at antiques shows 20 years ago for $195- $250 England c. 1880- 1910 Microscope Box Height: 6 inches Length: 6.75 inches Diameter: 1.75 inches Width: 2.75 inches Height: 2 inches Most of my items are one off antiques-I do not have any more"just like this" But I have 1000s(literally) of other English Antiques. Just ask. I most likely have one or can point you in the right direction! HINT: Don't Miss Your Opportunity to Bid& Don't Get Outbid At The Last Moment Don't risk losing at the last second. Up for a No Reserve Auction is a Vintage Bausch& Lomb Microscope in its original box! This one of many auctions to come from the estate of a doctor ... morewho was a photography enthusiast. He loved cameras. And all the gear associated with photography. He took wonderful care of all of his collection! Check my other auctions. As more vintage camera gear will be joining this listing. I will happily combine shipping. This microscope has two objectives. They are marked. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester N.Y. 2/3 0.24 N.A. Tube Length 160.0 M.M. and"Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester N.Y. 1/6 0.82 N.A. Tube Length 160.0 M.M. This objective has other markings I cannot read. The fine adjustment and coarse adjustment knobs focus perfectly. And turn wonderfully. They don't make'em like the used to! The fine adjustment knob is numerically marked. And the pointer from the body tube is still there, doing its job. The diaphragm focus and aperture both work as they should. The mirror is uncracked. And the swivel and dual-axis pivot both function correctly. The tilt/pivot of the entire upper microscope above the base functions as it should. The eyepiece freely rotates and does not have any pointing mechanism. Though when taken apart it appears there is a glue spot that used to hold a pointer. This is going to make a fantastic addition to any collection. I don't know the year. But something tells me that with this information, and the serial number in the picture you'll soon figure that out: I'm listing all of these auctions for a family friend. If you're here reading this. You probably know more than I do, but I'll do my best to answer all questions. Ask before you bid, please. Now for the not-so-fine print: I ship only to the lower 48 United States. Will only accept PayPal and will ship only to your confirmed PayPal address. Bids from buyers with 5 or less positive feedback will be canceled unless you email me first and assure me your verified PayPal is ready to go. Please don't ask m

You are invited to purchase a superb(no exaggeration – please see the accompanying images) Joseph Zentmayer antique brass monocular microscope along ... morewith a dovetailed Walnut wood cabinet that houses the instrument. Featured here is a very nice example of Zentmayer’s famous “American Histological Microscope” that includes two(2) unique features for which Zentmayer was granted US Patent No. 181.120 on August 15, 1876. These patented features are: 1. A swinging substage mirror assembly, and, 2. A long lever fine focus mechanism housed in the limb. J. Zentmayer introduced this model microscope in the year 1876. Over the many years that it was manufactured. It proved to be one of his most popular microscope models – second only to his “U.S. Army Hospital Microscope.” Later on, in the year 1893, he introduced an improved version of this instrument known as the “American Columbian Microscope.” The two models appear similar and so they are often confused. The American Columbian Microscope model is distinguished from the earlier American Histological Microscope by a slightly larger stage, a somewhat broader and flatter “Y” shaped foot and the presence of the substage mirror mounted on a sliding dovetail bar at the end of the swinging substage assembly that also included a cylinder diaphragm. The earlier American Histological Micr

Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is an antique early achromatic Pritchard-form"transitional" brass microscope in pristine condition. Made in ~1840 by the renowned Parisian workshop of Charles Chevalier(1804-1859) The microscope comes with the original mahogany case. Bull's eye condenser, tweezers and a set of early French-made slides mounted by the Bourgogne Brothers. History: This early achromatic microscope is mounted on a brass pillar with a compass joint that directly connects the support pillar to the limb of the microscope. This design is one known as the"Pritchard form" Which developed directly from the"Jones Most Improved" type of the late 18th century. During the period around 1830-1840 the English microscope was ... moreundergoing a rapid evolution from the non-achromatic instruments to the achromatic microscopes that became more common within the second quarter of the 19th century. During this evolutionary period, some of the microscopes that were produced are often now referred to as"transitional" that is, they represent a design that is midway between the older and newer forms. The microscope shown here is clearly one of these. Several early microscope manufacturers used this mounting method, including Andrew Ross, Andrew Prichard, and James Parkes& Son in England and Vincent and Charles Chevalier in France. In Andrew Prichard's Catalogue of Microscopes and the Jewel and Doublet Microscope extracted from his publication entitled, The Microscopic Cabinet of Selected Animated Objects" Similar mounting to that of the instrument featured here appears. The microscope is entirely mobile. It collapses into the compact mahogany case together with the usual accessories and can be carried easily. Although microscopes of this type are invariably unsigned. They are commonly attributed to the workshop of Charles Chevalier(1804-1859) The last photo presents a page from the sales cat
A fine quality. Intricate, antique English microscope circa late 1800's. It's signed"J. Swift and Son London Patent 24960" and engraved"CE Norton MD" It appears to be solid brass with some black lacquered portions. The arm on stage(to hold slides I believe) is also patented by J. Swift as item No. 165 with serial number 24345. Size: 14.5" tall with turret exetended. Comes with two eyepieces and 3 objectives- one marked"2" unsigned; a Bausch and Lomb marked"3 in" in brass case; and a B&L marked"1/4" The double objective holder that"revolves" is stamped"McAllister NY" Very good cosmetic condition, glass and optics appear fine, we are not experts in this field so please use photos to judge condition. Comes with a solid mahogany dovetailed box with key as shown, ... morehowever I cannot seem to fit scope inside properly so it may or may not be original to scope. Sold as found. Which is mounted on a brass pillar that holds the mirror, stage, condenser, and body tube. The microscope is finished in lacquered brass. A plano-concave mirror is mounted on a pivoted arm beneath the condenser. Focus is achieved by a rackwork set for coarse focus ... morethat translates the body tube up and down with respect to the stage and micrometer knob for fine focus. The eyepieces are of a Huygenian-style containing two lenses. And the interchangeable objectives are screwed into the nosepiece at the other end of the body tube. A slide out sub stage plate and further accessories are stored in lidded box. The microscope case, which is lined with purple velvet, contains a wide spectrum of optical pieces, including spare eyepieces and other assorted parts(please see images provided) A small. Green leather covered case contains three objectives and three diaphragm stops. The lens case is stamped with the same serial number as the larger case. Three eyepieces, marked as 2, 3, and 4 complete the optical system. The entire optical system works well, producing crisp, sharp images of good contrast throughout the extensive range of magnifications. It even retains the leather padding that covers the bottom of the base. Dimensions: Assembled Microscope Height: 13 inches(33 cm) The horseshoe base: 4 ½ inches(11.5 cm) long by 3 inches(7.5 cm) wide. The original wooden case: 11 inches(28 cm) x 6 inches(15 cm) x 4 inches(10 cm) Weight: approximatel

Hello and thanks for looking. What we have here today is a STEAMPUNK BAUSCH AND LOMB BRASS AND COPPER MICROSCOPE. Seriously. What mad scientist's lab would be complete without one of these babies. Mad in the early part of last century this microscope is built to withstand the most maniacal reanimated corpse, death-ray or any and all other meddling in things MAN WAS NOT MEAN'T TO KNOW! Constructed from cast iron. Brass, copper and other materials this microscope has"LSU" Botany" and the number"39" engraved onto the base. I have not made any attempt to clean it up as I frankly don't know enough about it not to be sure I won't damage it. But I believe that with some elbow grease it could be brought up to a very fetching glow. It should fit into a USPS Large Flat Rate box so shipping will be $17 anywhere ... morein the US of A.
WOW! So beautiful! Stage is made of bronze.Iris below stage works great. Serial number indicates it was manufactured in 1901.Makes an excellent gift for the medical professional or student.

Due to some new priorities that I set. I clear now a section of my collection of antique field microscopes in favor of other models. Between June and August 2013 I will gradually list some high end single and compound microscopes, ranging between the 2 nd half of the 17 th. The 18 th. And the early 19 th centuries. If you are a serious collector. Please follow my lists. I will neither provide BIN prices nor sell outside of eBay, so please avoid addressing me with such requests. Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is an antique"compass microscope" Probably dating to the late 18 th century. The microscope is unsigned. It comes with one integral lens and two additional stacking button lenses. Providing altogether relatively very high magnification estimated ... moreat ~100X. The special specimen holder having the three prongs is paralleled by item R.M.S. No. 21 reviewed in Gerard Turner's book The Great Age of the Microscope. However. The model depicted there is different. The microscope has a nice ebony lacquered handle. But otherwise the finishing seems to be somewhat cruder than the usual for these. The case or etui that presumably accompanied it is missing. SHIPPING(please read carefully! Shipping is made promptly(within a day) after receiving cleared payment. The bottom detachable mirror has a line across it from age back wear but it's not a crack it also is broken on the end and doesnt attach, so please have a look at the picture i have taken of this. The big brass tightener at the back just seems to go round and doesnt go in, so maybe the thread has gone. The Mahogany case is in good condition too with outer scratches, the inner lock has come off ... morebut is there, but no original key! Up for auction(sale) is a Vintage Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Brass Microscope My clients husband found this microscope in the remains of an old building and cleaned it up very well. Most all the adjustable parts move. Though some are a little harder than others. It is missing 1 of the 3 magnifying lenses that can rotate to any one of the 3 positions. It may be missing other parts that I don't know about. The eye piece does not appear to be the proper one for this scope, but does fit in the chamber. The mirror at the base does have blemishes on both sides. It has many more options than some of the other scopes that I have found from this era. It has 2 patent dates that I can find, one from Feb 1897& one from Aug. 1897. We do have a letter that was written to Bausch& Lomb to find out more information about the microscope. They ... moresent a reply which stated that they do not know to whom it was sold to, but it is circa 1897. The serial number is on the base#26739. It is 14 1/2" Tall x 6" Deep x 4 1/4" Wide I was unable to really see anything as I didn't have the knowledge or the material to test. I'm sure that it does need some restoration. Though it is a great looking decorative piece as it sits. This is the condition it has been in for many years and I did not attempt to polish or take apart to clean. If you would like more pictures please let me know I will ship this scope FREE in the Continental United States PayPal only please If you have any questions please ask I strive for 100% approval so if you have any issues please contact me before leaving feedback I will do returns in special situations Thanks for checking out my items. Many more to come in the future

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE BRASS OBJECTIVE No 7a. BY C. REICHERT, CIRCA 1880. I have the pleasure of offering for sale a divisible brass objective“No. 7 a” By C. Reichert, of Wien(Carl Reichert started microscope making in 1876) It was one of several objectives pertaining to a circa 1880 Reichert brass microscope. This is a rare button-type objective with RMS thread. By C. Reichert, of Wien. Each of its three sections carries its own lens. Using one, two, or all three sections together allows varying the magnification of the objective, from low to medium, to high. Button type objectives were a popular choice for low priced microscopes from the 1880s to the 1940s. But it was highly unusual for these objectives to feature the RMS thread. This thread makes them compatible with microscopes by other makers(including modern ones! ... moreThe objective is in very good condition for an item some 130 years old. Noticing partial loss of finish on the brass barrel(see pictures) Importantly, I see no defects in the lenses. This is a no return auction. Please review the pictures to judge condition and ask any questions before bidding. I ship only to the continental USA.

Due to some new priorities I clear now a section of my collection of antique field microscopes in favor of other models. Between June and August 2013 I will gradually list some high end single and compound microscopes. All dating to the 2 nd half of the 17 th. The 18 th. And the early 19 th centuries. If you are a serious collector. Please follow my lists. I will neither provide BIN prices nor sell outside of eBay, so please avoid addressing me with such requests. Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is an antique brass case-mounted Ellis-styled aquatic/ botanical microscope. Dating to the first half of the 19 th century. The microscope is unsigned. Yet several features clearly assign it to France. It is very unique in terms of design, having two separate and ... moreparallel stands, one for the microscope and the other for the sample holder. This microscope features a variation on the theme of the"Ellis aquatic microscope" It collapses into the 15 x 9.3 x 5 cm mahogany case. Internally lined with red velvet. When mounted, the body tube is 9.5 cm long rising altogether(with the case) to 14.5 cm. Both the microscope and the parallel sample holder stem screw into two brass sockets at the top of the case. The microscope stage is sliding along the column for focusing. Below it. A 2.8 cm diameter single sided mirror is mounted on a typically French 8 shaped bracket screwed to the column(see the discussion here regarding this style) The original accessories include three lenses with different magnifications. A glass stage disk with a polished depression for observing pond fauna and flora in aquatic samples, brass tweezers, and a special mounting wrench for the rater primitive stage forceps. he microscope, its accessories, and the mahogany case are all in very good overall condition. It dates to the first half of the 19 th century. SHIPPING(please read carefully! Shipping is made promptly(within a day) after receiving cleared payment,
