This microscope has a polished wooden limb, this appears to be a replacement, but ... morethe brass elements are are all a good fit. There are no cracks or chips to the brass or wood that I can find and it has retained much of its' lacquering and oxidised finish, however, there are the scuffs, marks and scratches that you expect from a used item of this age. The drawtube mechanism moves up and down smoothly. There are no cracks or chips to the single sided mirror and the silvering is in good condition. It has two stacking objectives. It has a fitted wooden case, the hinges are well attached and the catches to the front work as they should. The microscope is sold as a collectors item and we have not tested it for clarity of image. For sale I have a truly antique brass pocket folding microscope/ loupe. Historically these were carried into the field to examine small specimens of insects or any thing diminutive. Folded it measures 1 and 1/8 by 3/4 inches. Unfolded it stands about 1 and 1/8 inches tall I see a great deal of new ones are being imported as loupes for examining jewelry Surely that is a handy use for them. Antique 19th Cent Brass Furnace Field Microscope Original Box Slides Specimens
This auction is for an antique. 19th century brass, field microscope with its original wooden box. Also included is a pair of tweezers, 2 blank slides wrapped in original paper and 3 specimens. The box closes with two brass catches on the front. The microscope measures 6 inches high and 1.9 inches wide. The brass surface and mirror have some corrosion. I have not tried to clean it. The mirror is missing one of it's screws. The inside box pieces need to be glued. The lenses look good. Could use some tender loving care. A great restoration project! AN UNUSUAL ANTIQUE BRASS FOLDING MICROSCOPE ZEISS LENS PLUS OTHERS ETC
ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for what I think looks like an unusual antique brass microscope. Probably mid 19thC I would think. Has a nice little turned bone knob to the underside that raises the additional lens/enlarger under the main platform. The aformetioned'lens' also has a nice little slide operated shutter that opens and closes beautifully- see pics 11& 12. No makers marks. Comes with a couple of other lenses and cases and a few other bits and pieces. It has a tatty case with it but I don't think its original. Not overly sure. It measures 14 inches/35.5cm tall as you see it in the first image. This piece is sold totally untouched and uncleaned. Fresh to the market. One leg I can see has been re-soldered and the screw had snapped meaning the leg is loose- there is a replacement pin put in there just to hold it in ... moreplace while its upright, the original screw is there so could be repaired or matched for a replacement. All the lenses look ok to me. Weight is a good 2.3kg unpacked. I don't know anything about it but ask a question and you will get an answer. c.19th MARTINTYPE DRUM BRASS MICROSCOPE(c.1840) An elegant example of the Martin-type drum microscope popularized at the beginning of the 19th century. Contains the 6 original objectives as well as some other devices. There is another lens with liebekhun. A couple of live boxes, a chalk case, The microscope is in excellent condition retaining nearly 100% of its original laqueur. One of the teeth is missing and sometimes it needs a little help to start raising but it is out of normal range of use and doesn't affect its function. Case is in excellent condition and has a liitle draw with some other accesories. Includes a CD with a digital copy(pdf) of the Billings Microscope Collection.

Vintage Brass and Cast Iron Spencer Microscope with Wooden Case This microscope was used in a middle school science laboratory during the 1950s but was treated properly. It was cleaned and restored then given to me as a gift when the school replaced the equipment in the lab. I used it in my dorm room when unable to use the college lab but after graduation I have had it tucked away in a trunk. I found it when I was purging the house of unused items. I would love for someone who has a love of vintage items to own this great little microscope that has been in many young adults memories. It would make a great collectable or could even be used at home to help your youngsters learn about the microscopic world unseen to their naked eyes. It is much better than a cheaper version of a children's microscope and will last longer. It has some pitting ... moreon the brass knobs and the mirror has some discoloration but does not interfere with the view when looking at slides. One stage clip is missing but the one left still holds slides. The eyepiece lens is 10x and the two objective lenses included are10x and 44x. The coarse and fine focus work smoothly. The wooden carrying case in which it is stored is in good condition having the original felt. However there is a slight separation on one corner which can be fixed. See Photo) The finish is in great condition and at one time it had a lock, but that was removed before I obtained it. Focus and Fine Focus work, Mirror spins and revolves, Diaphragm blades open and close easily and look very good, lower stage goes up and down smoothly, tilt works fine, turret revolves just fine. M issing are the 2 hold down pins. To hold a glass slide in place, but these are usually long gone from these Antique Scopes. Side screws for adjustments on either side of the table maybe bent from falling over, or may have come that way, as they match pretty well( I am not sure how perfect any of the lenses are. But at this point in it's life, this Lovely Scope is pretty much definitely going to a Collector/Buyer for Display Only anyway, which brings me to a Main $$$$ Selling Point. We bought this on a whim at an auction years ago because it looked so cool. It looks good sitting on top of a 1929 Radiola Tall Boy radio. And that's all we really know about old microscopes. It's missing the reflecting mirror and on of the screw-in arms that holds the slide. One of the screws that holds the specimen platform is missing and the other is obviously a replacement. Superb early 19thC original condition travelling(or student) microscope of the cuff type? made of laquered brass. In fact the whole microscope is made of brass except the lens and mirror. A sure sign of quality. I can find no makers mark to it. The wooden box is a later item but fits the microscope well so it shall be posted in this to any potential buyers. The instrument in most compact form measures 6.75" high. I reckon this scope is a real beauty. There is only the single objective as seen with this scope. Thanks

Antique Brass Microscope Edwardian Swift London Polarizing Scientific Instrument
A brass microscope marked J. Swift& Son. London, No.14532, early 20th century with original fitted walnut case. I believe this is a polarizing microscope, and the serial number dates it to around 1908. I would describe the condition as original, the lacquer is starting to degrade in some areas, no cracks to the mirror, some small areas of loss to the silvering. The base is black lacquered brass. This is not my field of expertise so it is not tested, but it is in undamaged mechanical condition. The case is sound but there is no key for the lock, and the snib is broken. There is a small loss to the case where someone has opened it without a key, within the case there is a vacant area for I assume, slides and a loose lens in a wooden holder. I can't see where this was ever glued into the case. Heavy item so UK postage only. Posible International ... morepostage but email me for a price.

Marked Ross London 1/8In in flowing script to the Lid of the Canister. The Lacquered Brass Lens Body itself is marked 1/8 In/ Ross London/ a small arrow and Covered. The Focus Ring is marked incrementally 0-15. The Glass Lens looks to be in good condition with only minor surface wear and with no major damage. The Brass Body is all structurally solid and intact. With some minor patina but with no breaks, cracks, dents or major damage. The Focus Ring moves smoothly and firmly. The Threads on the Lens Body are clean and damage free. The Lid screws cleanly and firmly onto the Canister. The above is shown as comprehensively as possible in the many pictures. Vintage Bausch & Lomb Brass Microscope, Patent 1879, No Serial Number.
Bausch and Lomb began manufacturing miscroscopes in the mid 1870s. This B&L student microscope bears a patent date of 1879 and no serial number. Making it one of Bausch's earliest. Comes with two eyepiece lenses and two objective lenses in its original wooden box. The brass is nice except on the stage where there is a fair amount of scratching. Mirror is excellent. Missing a few specks of enamel on the base, I estimate more than 95% is there. As far as I can tell, everything is working. I'm not sure why no serial number, but I see no sign of one. Baker solid brass antique microscope. Circa 1860. It bears the marking on the base of"Baker, 244 High Holborn, London. It is in the original box, with original key, and I believe the box to be mahogany.beautiful dovetailed working on the box. A characterful antique early Victorian brass drum microscope with open base
A nice unusual example of a drum type microscope dating from the early to mid Victorian era. This has a single lens and an unusual open base- both generally found on older microscopes. The microscope is made from brass with a lacquered gilt finish which has some slight wear in places. Giving a characterful appearance. It is in original uncleaned condition with a nice patina and seems to be in working order. The mirror has some very slight scattered dust and is a little stiff to turn. But still works well. The microscope is in very good condition with just some slight wear to the mirror and a little to the lacquered finish on the brass. There is no makers mark. The top of the 3 objective lens is marked Spencer Buffalo U.S.A, The 3 lens are marked Spencer Buffalo 0.25 18mm on one, the one with the silvertone tip has only the number 31285 and the other one has the numbr 251948. On the brass button at the end of the horseshoe base is 58849 Nice old microscope. A fascinating naturalist's miniature field microscope dating from late 1700's early 1800's. This fantastic item is a folding field magnifier microscope flea glass. I am unsure exactly how it works. The magnifier and the bone section both fold up neatly against the central section so can be easily transported in a pocket or case. The company started using the name A. S. Aloe& Company in 1885 but I have no way of knowing when the microscope was actually made. It appears to be turn of the century and all brass as far as I can tell. The microscope and two of the lens cases are imprinted A. S. ALOE- CO ST. LOUIS. But there is no serial number. Hopefully the photographs will help to date this item. The wooden case was made to house three lens cases but along the way someone crafted a second housing that holds two additional lens cases. see photo#7) The rest of the case pieces appear to be all original.
