There are loose black threads throughout, used to sew the rags into strips for weaving. There are less on the side that seems to have been up; likely the threads came off through use. But the rug shows little use- looks wonderful! This rug came out of a VERY dusty old attic, and really needs cleaning. That attic held many other long-forgotten antique hooked and rag rugs. Mounted on a later base and with later cloth cape. Carved and painted wood. Glass eyes. Cloth cape. The Santos itself looks to date to the late 18th or early 19th century. The base. Upon which it was mounted sometime after the legs broke, is probably early 20th century, as is the old cloth cape. I’m not sure which Saint this is. But possibly Joseph as it looks like other examples of Joseph from Mexico that I have seen. The figure has white glass eyes and blue-painted body, with long brown hair and painted details to the face. It is nicely carved in the Mexican traditional Spanish Colonial style. The Saint appears to be mounted to the painted wood base, with a nail or metal rod, at the bottom of the right leg. It is a beautiful and small Santos from early Mexico. AGE: Santos- Late 18th- early 19th century. Base and cloth- Early 20th century. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Missing his arms. Loss to the left leg at the thigh. Loss to right leg at the knee. Small losses and wear to the painted surfaces, as shown. Later base and cloth with wear and old patination. Antique 19th Century French Microscope Brass & Cast iron w. orig box
Here is a great antique French microscope with original box in much better than average condition. Measures 8 1/2 inches in when retracted. Made of brass and cast iron. Original gold paint on base. Optics are clear. Reflector is foggy. Brass has nearly all of the original lacquer on it. Knob retracts it fine and the top lense is removable. Box is in fine condition, beautiful wood, missing one wood spacer as shown. All seams tight. Box has a name I am guess was the original owner and what looks like a retailer stamp on the bottom. Box measures 9 1/2 by 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Superb example of a mid 19th Century Microscope. Guranteed original for ever. Thanks for looking. Payment to be remitted within 4 days.
