Pictorial, with a great scene of Virgin Mary standing atop a holy mountain, holding the infant Jesus, with two saints, a pair of cherubim above, and at her feet a dog with a torch in it's mouth, and a sphere. For sale is a vintage very well made old commemorative medal produce in 1929 and featuring Pope Pius XI. It has the original box and paper flyer and all are in very nice condition. Also included is a small silver looking container which holds a glass vial and has three different views of religious- Catholic icons. Including the Virgin Mary. I can not find any marking to indicate this is actually silver and so I assume it is plated. I do not know what this small(about 1.25" high) container was used for, but it was purchased at the same estate sale as the medal and quite probably is from about the same time period. I love Catholic stuff. I am Catholic myself and have so many crucifixes that the devil would be calling on Jesus Mary Joseph and the saints above(or on the walls and shelves around him and hanging from the ceiling fans) to save him if he ever found himself inside my house. I am tempted to keep this trio of medals because I believe they have probably been together a long time and I'd hate to see them separated. You'll notice in the photographs that the Madonna medal is rather worn. However. I didn't attempt to clean either the chain or the medals because I love this vintage look. If you want to clean it, that's up to you. Not including the bail, the St. Jude Thaddeus medal is 3/4 inch, the Saint Catherine medal is 5/8 inch, and Our Lady of Lourdes is 1/2 inch. This is very rare. This is a beautiful medal and in great condition. In medieval times people made pilgrimages to Rome and these medals are typical of Pilgrims medals from around 1600. They are very rare to find so intact. It has a deep patina. The bale or ring is still intact on the top. Measures just over 1 inch in length(28mm) and 3/4inch wide. With bale or loop at the top which is perfect. Please note I am in IRELAND shipping will take slightly longer and be slightly more expensive.
