This Examination of Title is dated July 30. 1879, it is a handwritten copy and documents deeds going back to 1852. The title company was Haddock and Cox. From the writing on the cover, it appears to be prepared for C& B Maegerlein. It comes to me from the estate of William Maegerlein, a very colorful character: Surprisingly enough William"Bill" Maegerlein has remained largely unknown despite his association with the famous Essanay Studios in Chicago where he played bit roles and stunted in movies featuring the likes of Tom Mix and Ken Maynard and the big rodeos and wild west shows of the times. From the large volume of photos and documents obtained from his Arkansas estate. We have learned that he was also an inventor and patent holder. In his own words from a letter written in 1978 he describes his colorful life and career: ... moreI worked in pictures as a kid for Essanay Film Co. in Chicago, rode Wild West shows, owned one, rodeoed, had charge of a fleet of milk wagons in Chicago, wrangled dudes, had a ranch of my own.rodeoed again, worked pictures and I was the last man to double for Walter Brennan in his last picture shot at Winslow, Arkansas. The name of the movie was Smoke in the Wind. He resided at 2701 Archer Avenue and had a warehouse on neighboring Mary Street. Both of which are examined and mapped in this title document. Bill sued the City of Chicago in 1903 for water damage to the goods on Mary Street. Maegerlein sold"fill hose" made from esophagi of cattle to be used in the brewing business for conducting beer from vats to kegs. During the course of the litigation he had need to prove that certain lands belonged to the city. He was awarded the sum of $3,990 on July 12, 1907.

A very rare opportunity to purchase a set of maps. As they were originally issued to subscribers in 1767. They form part of the Atlas Anglicanus by Emanuel Bowen(c1693- 1767) which was first issued in 1767, with a 2nd edition in 1777. By this time Emanuel Bowen was dead, so the project was completed by his son Thomas Bowen, and published by T. Kitchin. The complete Atlas is very scarce(you can buy one online for over £8000.00) and it is even rarer to find the maps issued in the form we have here: Inside a blue paper folder are sewn in a List of Subscriber's names. The maps in this Atlas are a delight, the County maps often with extensive historical annotations filling the blank areas- details of towns, battles, industry, agriculture etc. giving a superb picture of late-18th century Britain. I believe this engraving to be a RARE c1850 engraved title page for Alessandro Moschetti's Principali vedute di Roma. Rome: Filippo Ducro. N.d. c.1850 and not readily available. Moschetti engraved many wonderful views of Rome as mementos of the Grand Tour. This is a delightful image of the bronze sculpture Lupa Capitolins which depicts a she-wolf suckling twin infants. Romulus and Remus, inspired by the legend of the founding of Rome. The sculpture is surrounded by the monuments of Rome. The publisher, Filippo Ducro with his address is printed below the image within the plate mark. Also listed on E-Bay is the frontispiece of this book and map of Rome entitled"Pianta Di Roma Elevata Nel MDCCCXLVIII# 291157820150. A rare item as well.
