WHAT MAKES THIS QUILT TOP SO INTERESTING IS THE BACKGROUND FABRIC THAT IS ACTUAL MAP FABRIC MADE BY THE HEYDRICK MAPPING COMPANY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS. STATES IN THE MAP PRINT THAT THE FABRIC MAP WAS $15 AND A PAPER VERSION WAS $10. DISCOLORATIONS IN THE BACKGROUND LOOK TO BE MADE BEFORE THIS BECAME A QUILT TOP BACKING. Sr. the boundaries of the state were still unsettled. The"stovepipe" extension reaching to the 42nd parallel is shown and the boundaries around El Paso in far west Texas are still unresolved and will be until 1850. The area west of Dallas and Fort Worth was almost entirely wild and the llano estacado atop the Caprock was largely unknown territory. This early map also shows Indian Territory which had been formed in the 1830's as well as Taos and Santa Fe which had been claimed by the Texas Republic. This is a 1877 Railroad map of Texas& Indian Territory. It measures 19 1/2 X 25 1/2 inches. To own any of these Business Atlas maps in the 1870's is to own a extremely rare item. The last one we saw in auction ran over $1400.00. And worldcat.org shows only one of these in the major libraries. and it is a 1878 edition. None of the 1876 or 1877 editions exist outside the archives of Rand McNally.This is from the Second edition of the Rand McNally Business Atlas. This map is canvas backed. It has a copyright date of 1876 on it. The thin double lines show Stage routes. Wagon trails and other dirt roads used at the time. Some of the margins have curled under. Texas. Missing the panhandle, instead there is the Staked Plain and High Arid Table Land. Inset shows Part Of The Great American Desert: New Mexico, Indian Territory, Kiowas, Comanches, Route to Santa Fe. Indian Territory in the Northeast. This listing is for four sheets of paper that I found stapled together in my father-in-laws office. In the upper left corners three of them say they are 1963. 1964, and 1965 decline in the water table maps and across the top of each they say DEAF SMITH COUNTY, which is where Hereford Texas is. The other sheet says 1963 saturation thickness Ogallala formation.The sheets are more than 18" tall. A beautifully executed combination of colored topographical land elevations depicted by height with red overprinted railroad lines which have been extensively referenced across the map. Along the side or bottom is a key of boxes. Where each color represents a range of heights. Thus, when viewing the map, you quickly see the topographical nature of the state. Delicately overprinted near the title and across the state are the extensive range of railroad lines then in operation.
